It's not like Valve has stopped making games at all.
They just haven't made a HalfLife game.

If they added in health/armour regen and limited you to two weapons, it might be generic.

... but aside from that, I don't see how it'd be generic considering that its gameplay style is seldomly found in modern games.

Maybe.
CTF matches would usually just end in a stalemate if no-one caps the flag in the first two minutes.

The pieces were all there in the beta, but the intensity was often missing. Hopefully they've improved on the final build.

Camping is a perfectly reasonable tactic, however, there are same games where bad map design leads to campers having an unfair advantage.
(i.e. a map having one hallway as a choke point, where a camper can easily rack up kills)

Rather than blame the map design, people would rather blame the camping player... and will keep on rushing head on and dying over and over in frustration.

It's up to the game to create a balance between rushers and campers;...

That's usually how fixes work. The game gets fixed before a new DLC is released just so people actually buy the DLC.

Same happened with BC2, which finally had most of its issues ironed out before Vietnam was released.

Question is whether a new Quake game is even necessary.
Aside from visuals, there's not a whole lot that can be changed without 'fan' backlash, so the best thing they can do is keep supporting the classic games, which is what QuakeLive attempts to do.

I'd say this month's free Shift2 and Shank2 were a better time to join.

^ ... I was just describing how publisher's see the situation. O.o

Anyways, I sincerely doubt that developers will start closing their doors because no-one can afford to pay an extra $5~10 for a video game.
True, some people rely on trading-in their old games to buy new ones which surely has an impact, but I doubt it's big enough to prevent developers from closing down.

You don't have to buy games day-1 for $60 either. Hell, you're pra...

^ It's not what I believe, that is simply the nature of software (i.e. you don't hold ownership over it)
Whether you buy it for $60 is up to you, and whether you have any freedoms with it is up to the publisher.

... and Software is not like food either. If it was, then you'd have to buy the game every time you wanted to play it again.

Just to clarify; I don't want publisher to block used-games as I know it'll eventually lead to cus...

^ You're acting like all of this is new.

You don't have complete ownership of your game console. You own the hardware, but the software isn't yours. As a result, you can not modify the software without consent of it's owners (i.e. the console manufacturer).

For entertainment media, you also have similar restrictions. Some of them are more lax than others, but you can't legally copy and share DVDs or music CDs. Can't really do much with...

Unfortunately, they see those used games as lost revenue.

Suppose you sell 3 games to a store for $20 each, giving you a total of $60 to buy a new game with.
The store sells those used games back for $40 each, so they end up making $120.

As far as the money-suits in the industry are concerned, they gained $60 from your new purchase while losing $120 because of the store's used game sales, which means they still had a net loss.

If ...

What rights? This is software, and you agree to the terms and conditions for using that software. Rarely do you ever 'own' the software itself.

The movie industry has more avenues for making money than just DVDs, the gaming industry doesn't.

It's either buy their shooter, or don't.

It's still considered free as people who already have the service get it for free.

Kinda like PS+ with 'free' games, or just about any other subscription-based service really.

Depends what part of the game you compare.

I thought Borneo in UC2 looked better than the Chateau in UC3.

It comes down to opinion in the ended. UC2 looked a bit cleaner, while UC3 has some nifty new lighting effects.

DICE has also reused buildings between the BadCompany series and BF3.

That, and it isn't uncommon for devs to reuse assets in sequels including animations and sounds.

Negatory.
Tribes has no hats, TF2 clearly is the winner.
