@njr: That's the exact clip that entered my mind when I read this article. Hilarious!
I think there are small tweaks that can be made that would enhance gameplay for our times. I think something like changing the skins to match the SNES version would make a good number of people more apt to play it. Also, adding a save option other than that enormous password wouldn't hurt anything. They could always add an option for the diehards to play the original, too. I think more people would enjoy the updated version though.
I love the end of the NES Zelda commercial, it says: "Your parents help you hook it up." I remember being at the skating rink when I was 12 or 13 and having my father call the place to have them paged me so I could tell him how to hook up the NES to the TV. I still have to go over to their house on occasion to hook up their Blu-Ray player, or cable. I swear, I'm the only one in my family that understands color-coded wiring.
@Frankfurt: We need more great writers in the games industry, not less. It's idiotic to think that someone has to play games to write for them. I don't care if someone has never played a game in their life, if they're a good writer I want them working on games. Although, from what I've read so far, this woman is awful at her job.
I play action/adventure, RPG, Puzzle games, an occasional FPS if it's not a mindless rehash. You're not understanding what I'm saying.
Yes, there are games on the Vita that I want to play (Lumines, Uncharted and Gravity Rush when available), however, I would prefer more games to be available before I go out and spend $300+. Which is why I will wait to buy the system until more games become available.
It's the same reason I waited over a year ...
I didn't say there weren't any good games, I just said there aren't enough games that I find interesting. I'm waiting for the Vita to have a larger library so it won't sit at home, unused after the first couple weeks. Also, I already own Earthworm Jim... on multiple platforms.
Very tempting, that almost makes me want to buy the Vita, but without a better selection of games that I find interesting, I'm going to have to wait.
Holy, improper word-use Batman!
Just because a game moves into 3D doesn't mean it's beyond recognition. The title of the article should be, game series which have made a natural evolution in their style or graphics.
I was expecting something like King's Quest to be listed. Where the games followed a specific character or theme, but completely changed their style. Look at King's Quest VII vs. all the other games in the series. Or FF XIII, which completely changed its most positive attributes ...
Honestly, it was the difficulty that made the series as popular as it is. Demon's Souls was touted as a soul crushing experience, but fun and rewarding to play. Word got around the different gaming forums about the game and people started importing the Asian version because it had been localized in English. When the publisher saw how popular it was in the US, they gave us our own version and it was an instant cult classic.
When they started Dark Souls, the devs and fanbas...
Dark Souls was a great game, I had a lot of fun playing it and felt the difficulty was just right. I agree with Blastoise, I wouldn't give it a perfect score, but it does come pretty close.
My only gripe is that there were too many borrowed things from Demon's Souls that were reused in Dark Souls. Once I saw Knight Lautrec Of Carim, I had an idea of what he was going to do. When I saw Patches the Hyena, I knew right away what was going to happen. There were a couple m...
I wanna see what it looks like when they play Michael Winslow from Police Academy for this software.
The Psychonauts 2 talk is unrelated. This was in the works for quite awhile, they have a full production team already working on the documentary. The Psychonauts 2 talk just started a couple days ago.
Battletoads is one of the hardest games of all time, I put well over 100 hours into it as a teen and was never able to complete the game. I could finish Contra without the Konami code 3-4 years before Battletoads even came out. I also have a Platinum trophy for Dark Souls, it was easy compared to the three games mentioned.
TMNT is another game that I was never able to complete without the use of save states in an emulator. I could make it all the way through the dam level wit...
Here's the direct link to the program and an informative and hilarious video to watch.

It'd be fantastic if we got a new adventure game and a new Psychonauts both within the next few years.
That goes without saying. Out of context, that quote would make the person who said it look like an arrogant jerk.
“AND Reckoning has the best combat ever in a CRPG, period. IMHO. Which you should immediately discount, since I have a vested interest.”
Ken Rolston meant it to be tongue-in-cheek.
My mention of the screen size was because of the hypocrisy of not wanting to play games because it would be on a small tv, but it's ok to play games on a 5" screen.
I personally, haven't seen anyone complain about the size of the Vita. I'm sure you know, a huge benefit to a handheld is portability. You really start to lose that when you go with tablets, imo.
As far as controllers, what I said was IF they become more mainstream, phones will re...
Not exactly, his whole article is about everyone "hating" on the Vita. I'm of the opinion that we need far less mindless fanboys on N4G. Too many people get de-bubbled for having sound logic behind their arguments in the wrong areas. Speak negatively about Kinect in a 360 area or Move in the PS3 area and you get bubbled down.
Also, he makes it sound like the entire world is against the Vita. Go look through the Vita section of N4G, there really aren't that m...
Time for me to buy Skyrim. An Idiot Abroad in Skyrim, I love it.
