2009 sucked unless you had a PS3? Really? I seem to remember putting in a bunch of hours on Left 4 Dead 2, both GTA DLC episodes, Shadow Complex, and 1 VS 100 on my 360, as well as games from last year that I still play and a bunch of multiplats that were good as well.

I played a bunch of good exclusives on my PS3 as well.

My Wii got the least.

Not saying that MW2 deserves it, but to me, KZ2 doesn't either.

Good? Yes. Fun? For a time. Best of the year? No.

Bad list... I don't remember any Prototype or Chronicles of Riddick hype. Agree on KZ2, but where is MW2? And really? Scribblenauts? REALLY? Heh - most people outside of gaming couldn't even tell you what platform it's on.

I think that you misinterpreted the article - the first sentence in the MW2 description states that it's not because MW2 is bad game, but rather because of the debacle(s) with the PC version of the game.

But I disagree with you - MW2 isn't disappointing from a game standpoint. Picking on it because of the story really doesn't take away from how it plays. I mean, how many other farfetched stories have we played over the years? Italian plumbers eating mushrooms and jumping on tur...

I disagree - FF and Halo are huge in sales because they are both consistantly high quality and have a loyal fanbase. I don't remember any Halo or FF ever getting bad reviews (except maybe FFXI)?

MGS and SC are very different games even if they seem similar in theme. They control, look, feel, act, and play way different. Just because they both involve espionage doesn't mean they are the same.

If that were the case, then Katamari Damacy and Super Mario Bros. are the same too because you play very small characters who roam around colorful worlds collecting things. Extreme example, but I'm sure that you can see the point.

It depends. If you play a lot of current first person shooters on consoles or PC, then maybe not. Perfect Dark (and GoldenEye) were fantastic at the time particularly because they played well for the controller (N64) that they were made for. I don't know if it's going to translate to success on the XBOX controller, especially with all of the newer features that we've become accustomed to with dual analog sticks and more buttons etc. What once were awesome maps may be a lot different simply be...

@GamerSciz
FPS Cover system - I've already discussed this with Raz, but technically Rainbow Six Vegas had it first, even if it was a bit different (it had a 3rd-person based one a la Gears)

Realistic Weight to Weapons - That's not really an innovation. Every FPS handles differently in terms of weapons - think of it as having handling on the "heavy" side of things rather than being an outright innovation.

Dynamic Multiplayer - Agreed for sure, eve...

True, but RSV still was the first FPS to use a cover system, whether it is the same as KZ2's or not. Actually, I prefer the RSV cover system because the third person mode gives you a lot better field of vision (even if it isn't as realistic as staying in first person).

Either way, I wish KZ2 multiplayer had ANY cover system. I don't know why they left it out (not that it would be THAT widely used due how frantic the action is). The option would have been nice.

Heck yeah it was! It was just enough to feel like a complete demo and still give you that cliffhanger-WTF-is-next-to-be- continued-moment. Really was one of the better demos as a standalone thing that I can think of (rather than the boring old "first two levels" demos that we usually get).

As for the embargo - I kinda like it. These days, in most media forms, spoilers are rampant. You can't go into a movie or a game or anything without knowing a lot about it (unless y...

Agreed. Final Fantasy also differs from MSG in that you can play any of the games and it is a separate experience. MGS has a storyline that spans a ton of games. True, they try and keep you up with it, but playing a game and seeing a cutscene recap are two different things. You don't need a recap of FFX to play FFXII, or FFIII to play FFXIV etc.

BTW - Nice L avatar :)

It's funny how people defend Jaffe yet attack Cliffy B for doing the same damn thing - running their mouths. Not that Jaffe isn't awesome, but I hate double standards.

And I hate waiting for a new Twisted Metal. PLEASE announce that quickly if you're going to post videos, David!

I have to agree with you. I was really excited for Killzone 2. In fact, for the first week, I was putting in 6-8 hours a day on it. The graphics were sick and the weapons (although kinda standard) were pretty cool.

Unfortunately, the love kinda faded for me after the initial week. It just got to be the same old same old for some reason. I mean, I went back to playing SOCOM, which technically isn't as good of a game, but just felt more compelling to me for some reason. Dunno. ...

Have any of you actually played the game? It's a crapload of fun, especially with friends in a party situation. The other night I was at my buddy's for a get-together when he pulled DJ Hero out. Within minutes, we had girls dancing, alcohol flowing, and smiles and good times all around. The funny thing is - most of us are hardcore gamers in our late 20s and early 30s having a ball with a "casual" game (although I dare anyone to call the expert mode casual in any sense).

While I'd be quite happy with improved graphics and such that would be seen on a next-next-gen system, I have to say that I hope Gears 3 is on 360 because of the story-arc. I kinda hate it when continuous stories jump between platforms (like Halo and God of War). It doesn't matter for some sequels that have definitive beginnings and ends to the main story in each game (like Final Fantasy and Ninja Gaiden), but Gears is one that is currently in the middle of a bigger story and should finish wh...

Most definitely! Between that, No Mercy, and Wrestlefest (arcade), those are among the best wrestling games ever made. The problem with today's wrestling games is that they're almost too complicated. Granted, you can do a TON of different things in different situations, but the fun factor has gone down a bit for whatever reason. It's almost like less features are better for some reason? You would think the opposite, but for some reason this is one of those rare situations where it's true.

"Oh well... you'll have to forgive Microsoft for competing with Sony. What did you expect? Should everyone just give up and go home and let Sony have an unrivaled monopoly on hardcore gaming?"

The perfect parallel to support your thought can be seen in professional wrestling. When the (then-)WWF and WCW had rival Monday night TV shows (RAW and Nitro), both companies tried to outdo each other on a weekly basis by signing bigger stars, going with more outlandish and sen...

Him faulting the 360 for not having Blu-ray would have made no sense. Blu-ray didn't have any movies until June 2006 (360 came out in November 2005) and was not really determined to be the "official" next-gen storage media until after its war with HD-DVD (which was won almost solely because of the PS3). Add in the extremely high cost to produce them at the time (remember, 2005 not 2006 like the PS3) and DVDs were probably the way to go. Don't forget too - Microsoft wasn't in the pos...

Damn right you don't have to explain your reasons for getting it on the platform of your choice. However, expect attacks from those who aren't so nice and/or understanding! :(

I'm probably going to get this on PS3 - Square's cutscenes have always been delicious and I do want to see them in the best possible resolution.

Question of interest though - the compression doesn't affect actual gameplay resolution, just in the cutscenes, correct?

Did you bother to read the article? Here is the last paragraph in its entirety:

"Turn 10 obviously wants to use those resources elsewhere, be it in implementing features like rewind, or its hugely innovative system in swapping user-generated content. Indeed, the developer is on the record in stating that these concepts are its primary focus. Refining its handling and feedback model is also a hugely important element. GT's handling was once considered unassailable, but Forz...
