I don't think that Microsoft "frowns" on dedicated servers - it's just that more goes into it than one would assume. Plus there's really not too many games on 360 that NEED dedicated servers to play well.
Just going off of my experiences with Zipper games, there's the obscene amount of dedication to the netcoding. I mean - as HUGE as the maps are in MAG with all of the cool scenery and objects, I'm almost positive that more work went into the actual online aspect of t...
Yeah - playing against SVER is a lesson in pain. Even if they don't know what they're doing, they can still own you fairly easily.
Sidenote - I love how the commander guy says during the loading screen that SVER doesn't have the best technology or weaponary. Their weapons kill pretty well as far as I can tell! Heh.
Yeah - I went VALOR with my buds because, well, that's where my buds play! I do appreciate the extra 10% exp we're currently getting for Sabotage, but I've gotten the jones for Domination. Only problem is, every Domination we play seems to be us attacking SVER, which is akin to trying to take out the Death Star with a BB gun - possible, but highly unlikely.
Still, it can be done, no matter how rough it is. We're getting hardcore too - if our leader doesn't have a mic or isn't l...
OK - I was a HUGE hater of MAG after the beta. A few of my old SOCOM clanmates got it and told me that I had to check out the real game. After much debate, I picked it up ONLY because I hadn't played with them in a while and I missed them. I was perfectly fine with playing what I thought to be a not-so-fun game to hang out with buddies.
Boy, was I wrong.
MAG is a lot of fun. Most of my beef with it was the fact that it took so many shots to kill somebody - somet...
That's not what he's saying.
Basically his concern is that Sony's high-profile releases this year (MAG, Heavy Rain, and White Knight Chronicles) have gotten shaky reviews (not so much HR - he was speaking of one review in particular on that game) after expectations had been high for them.
He brought up a very interesting point though - reviewers probably don't know how to review Heavy Rain properly, at least those reviewers that use their scores in comparison to ...
Oh I am PRAYING that you can go upside down and drop from the ceiling as Alien. Heck - even have your spit drip onto the screen of whoever's playing as the marines as a warning. That would be beast!
MGS2 Tanker was awesome - even now it still looks good.
For sheer gameplay influence/tick you off moments, the rain on Hard Rain in Left 4 Dead 2 takes the cake. You're just rolling along to a drizzle and then all of a sudden you can hardly see 5 feet in front of you, let along the Smoker that just snatched your buddy behind you!
I'm still trying to fathom what "fully functional" entails :)
Yeah it does - just shows how far the series has come since the PS2 with what they can do and how they can do it! Can't wait!
PS3 Fanboys: You've got the superior version of the game and you don't have to stand up for 100 hours. Now shut up.
360 Fanboys: You've got a game on your console that used to be exclusive - be happy and shut up.
Everybody Else: Enjoy the game - it should be pretty good no matter which console you play it on.
Bungie said: "and some gamers like to just play games for fun"
You know, I hate to agree with him, (actually, I REALLY hate to agree with almost ANY of the known fanboys on either side) but this is one of the best lines from him or anyone else on N4G.
The topics that most people talk about is graphics or stories or technical prowess or sales or number of people online or any number of things about games, but the most important thing about a game is its ...
You guys must be unlucky, running into glitchers and such every game that you play. I've probably ran into them (at least to my knowledge) a handful of times over 1000+ matches.
But maybe that's just me?
Agreed to a point, but I don't know if I would have wanted a LARGER GTAIV city. Besides the perks of extra exploration, it would have been even a bigger pain to drive from one mission to the other all of the way across town! Plus, I got tired of GTA after a while...
That's why the DLC system worked for it - we got tired of the main character/story and then we got 2 new ones to mess around with. What they COULD have done was to put all 3 stories (or at least multiple perspectives ...
I'm just glad that PS3-only gamers have a chance to play the DLC. It was better than the core GTAIV story and has a lot of additional stuff that make the whole thing cool. Still, some people are tired of GTA. But the option is nice, no?
How is my logic flawed? I said that I won't continue playing something that I do not fun in the hopes that it will get better. Doing the opposite could be considered some form of insanity.
Regardless, GOOD RPGs are fun from the get-go, even when you have crappy weapons and spells and such. GOOD FPSs are fun from the get-go when you still have a fighting chance even without the higher attachments, armors, perks, or whatever game-specific trait you might consider.
...
I don't understand why so many people are saying: "oh, you have to play the game 10+ hours to fully appreciate it." Honestly, if I don't like a game after 2 hours, I'm not going to keep playing it in the hope that it gets better.
By that logic, then we should judge single player games solely on how the ending and final boss battle is, or multiplayer games only when you have all weapons and items are unlocked.
It's broken logic.
Heck no it's not the new SOCOM. I have about 2000 hours logged in throughout the series (yes, I'm nuts), and neither me nor any of my clan (most of whom are as hardcore or moreso than me) have any interest in MAG.
First off - it's an FPS. Socom was a TPS. To some, that doesn't matter, but the entire game changes based on that alone for a lot of SOCOM fans.
Second - it's respawn. Even though there's the "wave" system, it's still not that "I have one...
I liked BFBC and the BFBC2 beta, but there's no way it's going to outsell MW2. As to beating MW2 in gameplay, I don't think so either. There's really not much variety to the game types (at least there really wasn't in the first one). Besides that - BC matches are long drawn-out affairs, where MW matches are quick and get over relatively quickly for the most part. With today's attention-deficit-disordered gamer population, BFBC2 just won't have the appeal that MW2 has.
Still, I'...
Online-only games are hard to review. Just look at SOCOM:Confrontation - some had to change their reviews after playing it a whole MONTH after release because of the buggy nightmare that was its launch, and many would argue that they should have waited anywhere from 6-8 months AFTER that to review, at which point - why even bother?
As for MAG - people who want it will buy it (or be referred via word of mouth), and people who don't want it won't buy it (or hear not to buy it fro...
Why?
