Cross-platform gaming with PC is a cool concept in theory. However, from my experiences with UT3, it's not as fun as it sounds, since mouse + keyboard users have a distinct advantage over those using a controller. I wouldn't even play in the cross-platform servers after a while because of the ownage that was being handed down.
Still - the option to do something is better than not having it at all. Plus I'm stoked about getting a free copy for my Mac! That definite...
If you preorder the Epic edition on Amazon, you get it at the regular version price. The Epic edition has access to the Gears 3 beta. If that means anything to you, go that route.
Otherwise go with the console that you have more friends getting the game on, because the co-op looks great.
If that doesn't matter, get the one that has the controller you like better. As far as I know, the games are supposed to be identical looking across the platforms.
@Highlife
True, gameplay + graphics together are what all of us gamers want, the fact is that there are plenty of beautiful looking games that play like crap. I won't say that about Killzone, but it is a polarizing game - some people just don't like it compared to other FPS options.
But in reality, Iamback is completely justified in his comment. Awesome graphics draw us in and amaze us for a time, but without gameplay to match, games become just another pretty...
Uncharted 2's inclusion is a testament to its awesomeness. It's a shooter, an action game, a puzzle game, and an adventure game all rolled into one. I think that that is why it is such a great experience - because you can't classify as just one type of game, even though you may see one or more of the elements a little more than others depending on what point you are into it.
It's like Indiana Jones in a way...
@Silly gameAr
So Dread shouldn't complain about N4G in the comments section if he doesn't like the way that people who participate in threads act, but it's perfectly okay for you to complain about him complaining?
The double standard police want to bring you in for questioning.
To be fair, bias has already been brought up by fanboys in countless other game of the year threads, as well as review threads and other commentary.
@Troll_Police
I love me some Uncharted, but there is room in this world for both it and Gears of War.
While I agree that there are bugs and other problems that hamper the game, the fact is I still play it for four or more hours a night. I have a good time with my friends and even though the problems can piss us off a bit, it is still a boatload of fun and way less frustrating than MW2. I'm glad that Treyarch is addressing the issues - they could have just said the hell with it and left us to the wolves (or the dogs, as it were).
@jammydude
God of War III will never be forgotten. It was epic.
I loved Bayonetta and Vanquish too though, and Platinum deserves recognition for putting out two games of such a high caliber this year!
Spawns seem a bit better, but I swear that they nerfed the SMGs a bit. The new contacts are cool, even though some are a bit specific, like get 20 kills with a sniper rifle while aiming down sights with Scout as a perk holding a controller upside down while playing the game in a mirror in the picture in picture box of your TV on the night of a full moon.
I wasted five years of my life playing Quake games. Looks like I'll be adding to the total :(
@jeseth
Actually that was MW2. Black Ops is a step in the right direction.
I like it for the fun aspect to be sure. I can't disagree with RDR winning either, but I was rooting for GOW3 though.
GOW3 was my game of the year as well, but it doesn't mean that RDR sucks and it certainly doesn't mean you have to trash other studios.
As long as it's not your avatar or a Kinectimal LOL
Sequel to my favorite single player game ever? YES PLEASE!
Yes, but only if they do it right. Kratos is too sacred a character to whore out to spinoffs like Mario and Sonic have been.
The mere existence of Uncharted 3 would make it epic.
Seriously - 2 was the best single player game I've ever played.
@darth Agreed. Gamers with multiple consoles have more access to the best games.
The console war is a good thing to me. Any competitive atmosphere makes the parties involved continually come up with new ways to keep the consumer entertained. If one party is in control, that drive isn't there to stay on too because there are no challengers. And no drive means it's less likely to see groundbreaking and enthralling titles.
The bad part about the console...
@Ksense
Well Gears 1 and 2 each sold less than 8 million and there's over 40 million 360s out there, so there are a lot of people who don't have the games.
