Could somebody enlighten me as to how $3.00 a map is a rip off? It's pretty much the standard price model. Killzone 3's DLC was 5 bucks for 2 maps, or $2.50 a map. Are we really quibbling over a 50 cent price difference?
People on N4G whine about COD too much.
@TheTruth89
Yeah, but those games aren't supported as much as Halo's developers or community. Graphics < gameplay, longevity, active players, and relevance.
I love the other games too, but bringing up graphics is not a good argument.
I bought it on the PS3 (for the Steam integration), but I've seen the 360 version both on an HDTV at the store and in standard def at my friend's. The game looks fine on both consoles.
Besides - if you're playing Portal 2 for the graphics, you're missing the point.
You may have preordered SOCOM 4, but the game that you will be getting is actually called "Zipper Doesn't Have The Balls to Make a Legitimate Successor to SOCOM 2, So Here's Just Another Shooter That Isn't SOCOM"
The irony is that if this was Geohot VS Microsoft, most of you would be whining about how a poor little hacker trying to fight for consumer rights got railroaded by an evil corporate empire.
Hypocritical troll is hypocritical.
@Visari - if you've played since the beginning, you would know that this is not SOCOM. I've logged over 4000 hours across the series. Many of my friends since the early part of last decade have done the same or more. They say the same thing - this is SOCOM responding to Call of Duty. Which is fine in some ways, but when you change what a game is at its core, you no longer have the same game that was known and loved by its community. But whatever - it's not the first game to jump t...
Whether or not people think that KZ3 or UC2 looked better, Crysis 2 proved that Blu ray wasn't necessary for excellent graphics or a long campaign. In fact, if you look at files on a BD-ROM, most of the storage is used for high-end sound and CGI. The actual game data is relatively small on most games that are high in overall GB used.
I still like the options that Blu ray provides, but in the end, developers are what get the most out of consoles - not storage options.
@radphil
I agree with the fact that making comparisons to slavery is a bit over the top. My point was that the idea behind the comparison (where people stand by and do nothing because something doesn't directly affect them) was correct, not the execution/verbalization of said idea.
R2D2, as far out there as his point was, does have a point.
Legal decisions are not only for the parties directly affected by whatever they are disputing - they also are to set precedents for related cases and create a framework for our current system of rights and laws.
A perfect example is the obscenity case against Larry Flynt back in the day. The idea that free speech protections included pornography was the crux of the matter, not whether or not pornogra...
@Above
SOCOM has the most hardcore community of any console multiplayer game. It may not have the numbers of Halo or COD, but the true core of SOCOM players live and breathe the game (at least before Confrontation). The fact that you don't understand that doesn't make you an idiot, and I won't call you one despite your readiness to do so to me.
@young juice
Reserving an opinion until actually playing a full game?
You apparently don't know how N4G works ;)
I'm paying 60 for the SOCOM beta with the bonus of getting Killzone 3. Others are too. Must be a lot of idiots out there.
Pro-tip: it takes factoring in 195 other countries to counter the 360's North American lead.
RC Car death for me. I don't know why, but it seems like they all have a radar lock on me for some reason.
They may be owned by the same parent company, but their reviewing is completely different. OXM gives out 10's very rarely, and is quite critical of XBOX exclusives, whereas OPM seems to be a bit more liberal in bestowing perfect scores.
@All
So, sales, reviews, and popularity do not equal success? That's quite possibly the most asinine argument that I've ever heard. It's like the whiny metalheads who say that a band has "sold out" just because more than 100 people like them.
In terms of gaming, WE (by we, I mean the hardcore, assuming that the people on this site are to be considered hardcore), are the minority. We are catered to, but only to a point. Businesses want to...
I like it a lot more than KZ2, but I still wish that you could completely customize your classes instead of being limited to certain perks for certain weapons.
Also, the new burst assault rifle with the scope is amazing.
Then you're not speaking to the right people - the game is NOTHING like COD.
Honestly, this is probably going to make me get KZ3. I didn't really care for KZ2 after the first month. It wasn't a bad game or anything - it just wasn't my cup of tea. But I've been playing SOCOM since the first installment and am really excited now that Zipper has taken the reigns back. I do wish that this was a preorder thing (like it was for Confrontation), but I have no problem paying 59 bucks for a beta of my favorite series ever and getting a free game with it! :)
@thematrix1298
Well-stated. It's nice to see logic and eloquence on a COD article for once instead of the usual drudge.
