For the record, Sony said that they wouldn't block used games. They did not, however, say that there wouldn't be a charge for them.
People astound me - they honestly think that this is solely a Microsoft initiative. The publishers are the ones who want this system more than Microsoft or Sony, since they are the ones who are affected the most by used game sales.
And please - stop saying that Microsoft is pocketing the money from second hand sales. I gu...
Every console I've ever bought, the first thing I've asked at the counter has been "is it region locked?"
Seriously though, I have never bought a game from anywhere that wasn't the region that I've live in. Pretty sure that goes for about 95% of other gamers.
The author neglected this lesson:
"Engage people with what they expect; it is what they are able to discern and confirms their projections. It settles them into predictable patterns of response, occupying their minds while you wait for the extraordinary moment — that which they cannot anticipate.”
Basically, Microsoft was being Microsoft with their reveal. However, this may be a ploy for Sony and Nintendo to make ill-advised moves that lead to MS coming...
About the same time you and other Sony fanboys stop trolling Xbox articles.
@ilikecookies
It's nice to see somebody with intelligence and reaspning skills posting in these parts amidst the fanboys and other morons who don't pay attention or simply ignore pertinent information to suit their agendas.
Did either of you actually watch the Sony conference? They dedicated at least 20 minutes to "share this, share that". And no, it's not a literally gigantic button - but it features prominently on the controller. The fact that it is even on the controller means that Sony wants you to use it.
Regardless, both Xbox and Sony features are all optional! You could never use any of them if you so desire. You act as if Microsoft is holding a gun to our heads and telling ...
@SexyGamerDude
"...SONY just isn't trying to shove all the social aspects down our throats, like MS is doing."
There's a gigantic SHARE button right on the PS4 controller. How is that any different???
@Rainstorm81
"That's the thing, they didnt lessen phone capabilities with smartphones...they gave you a new option that never existed. "
Okay, fair enough. But tell me how XBOX ONE is lessening gaming capabilities to compromise for its other endeavors. And no, don't mention used game licensing or RAM differences VS a PS4.
The fact is, we haven't seen games yet. Or at least, no longform gameplay. MICROSOFT TOLD US THAT WE W...
@thechosenone
I imagine that your laughter is similar to laughter a few years back when cynical people had just found out that the future of cellphones wasn't actually having conversations on them.
I wonder if they're still laughing.
I wonder if you'll still be laughing in a few years.
Microsoft stated on numerous occasions that the reveal was going to focus on hardware, interface, and apps. They further stated that E3 was where the games would be shown and detailed.
Reveal comes along, people say "where are the games?"
People need to pay more attention when they are given information instead of complaining later when they were expecting something that wasn't supposed to be there in the first place.
@SexyGamerDude
Okay, so you say that your friend wouldn't play the game if you didn't lend it to them. That's the point. To a company, people who don't pay for their products are not their customers. At best, they are potential customers. At worst, they are thieves. People who borrow games are somewhere in the middle, and thus, it's hard to legally classify or restrict their activity. This is no open and shut case, as copyright lawsuits and licensing agreement liti...
@SexyGamerDude and cooperdnizzle
You've both missed the point. This is from a business perspective. Ask anybody who sells products to consumers - do you want to sell one product to somebody who will use it, then give it to their friends to use as well, or do you want to sell a product to each person that will be using it? 100% of business owners will choose the second option.
And as to "only" lending it to a friend for a few days? If that's ...
What most people fail to realize is that when you loan a game to a friend, companies lose money - specifically in terms of single player games. Theoretically, you could buy one copy of a game, and then pass it on to a million different people. So a million and one people have played a game that cost money to produce, and the parties that produced it were only compensated for one copy.
That is wrong.
I understand you wouldn't actually pass a game to a mill...
Microsoft knows exactly what and who they are competing for.
The what is to be the go-to entertainment device in the living room. Music, movies, and games in the same box. I understand that this has been done before, but they're taking it to a new level with connectivity and added features.
The who is everybody. Not just gamers, but everybody. They're clearly making an attempt to blur the line between gamer and nongamer with a box that has what every...
The Last of Us looks amazing, could be a game of the year, and is a day one purchase for me.
However, a multiplayer reveal today would be foolish because, quite honestly, today is all about the next XBOX. Any other video game-related news that happens today will pretty much be swept away by the flood of XBOX details and articles.
Both deserve their own dedicated time.
Oh, the joy. Instead of only hearing Sony fanboys whine for the next six years about a year headstart, we'll get to hear Xbox fanboys doing the same.
Can't wait.
@raytraceme
The "Kinect games don't count" argument is tired. They are games, and exclusive ones at that, whether the "core" likes them or not.
I have a Kinect that I use way less than I play traditional games, but if there was something interesting to me that came out, I wouldn't hesitate to pick it up. It's just another way to play.

Dead Rising on Wii was a completely different game.
@NavydAd
Yes, because the second Kinect came out, all games that did not have Kinect functionality stopped working and third-party studios stopped making multiplatform games for the 360.
Also Halo 4 was canceled and never released.
@SexyGamerDude
Of course there are also used games on the PS4. The question is will there be a charge as well?
I quote the article that you linked:
"So if someone buys a PlayStation 4 game, I asked, you're not going to stop them reselling it?
"Aaaah," was Yoshida's initial answer, but seemingly only because he'd forgotten his line. "So what was our official answer to our internal question?" he aske...
