I never thought I'd agree with you for once, but here I am agreeing lol

The movie industry is threatened by the time and money consumers spend on video games. Naturally they will talk down upon games because they are competition.

What they fail to realize is that some games are more a movie and a game all in one. Games aren't written by the same people writing the code anymore. There are Hollywood writers penning stories. There are world renowned comp...

I think that KZ would benefit if they went the way of Far Cry 3 - a definitive main quest, but plenty of things to do on the side (some of which enhance the story) and freedom to roam all unlocked areas. Obviously I don't want a carbon copy, but it would be cool.

I agree. They've set the stage with what they're doing. Now they need to tell us why, especially why things that are perceived as "bad" will benefit our experience with the One. Microsoft isn't run by idiots - I want to believe that they wouldn't simply impose restrictions without being able to show tangible things that end users would find desirable and make them buy a One DESPITE the other stuff.

I've been fooled before though :(

I disagree with his solutions. He says get rid of always online, make Kinect optional, prohibit third-parties from charging for used games transfer, and get rid of live TV. However, do all of that and you basically have a PS4 (not getting into raw power numbers or anything).

For better or worse, all of those things are what defines Xbox One and differentiates it from its competitors. It also sets standards for the console and gives developers an even playing field of all One ...

They aren't validations because at the end of the day, somebody who wants to play the multiplayer portion of a game that they have already purchased has to pay an additional $50 a year in order to access said multiplayer portion. Benefits are great, but they do not justify paying for online multiplayer if that is what your primary motivation is.

You know, he could just be a fan. Fans typically support their console of choice, while fanboys attack the console they didn't buy. Fans play games and fanboys play "mine's bigger".

Or he could just be making an observation.

@KingWookiee
Yeah I don't know why they wanted to go full install. I mean, there are speed benefits, but a lot of games run off of discs without huge load times. I see it being primarily a genuine benefit for larger scale open world games.

Honestly though, I think that Microsoft had it in mind to make the One a digital download console in the early stages until they realized that having both disc and digital distribution was the better method.

@KingWookiee
The reason for the check-in was Microsoft's decision to have all games install onto the hard drive. One could argue the logic in that, but it makes sense considering how the system works.

Basically, without check-ins, you could theoretically install the same game onto hundreds of consoles but only pay for one copy.

Again, the system of installing may or may not be optimal, but because of it, check-ins are the method they chose to pro...

"You can bring your disc to your brother in laws, as long as before hand you uninstall it from your system and deactivate it."

That is not how the system works at all. If you don't like it, fine. But don't say that it's something that it's not. Do your research.

I can't blame you - it was amazing. 2 was still my favorite though! :)

He's not defending restrictions - he's pointing out hypocrisies. For about ten years, Microsoft fans have been berated on a daily basis by Sony fans for paying for online multiplayer. Now the shoe is on both feet and there are excuses from the same people who did the attacking for all of those years.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Plus is a GREAT VALUE. This is indisputable. However, no matter how many things they attach to the subscription, you ...

@azshorty2003

That's not true. A lot of people are complaining because they are now being forced to pay for multiplayer, as has been standard on all Xbox consoles. If I remember correctly, the sentiments in regards to LIVE ranged from people not being able to pay an extra 50 dollars a year to the principle of having to pay extra for something that you think you've already bought.

Now I'm all about value, and there is a lot of great value is found...

I wouldn't say that it's a mistake per se, but there are benefits to having a standardized ecosystem, regardless of the peripheral in question. In the case of Kinect and The PS Camera, we might see things beyond the normal motion control and menu navigation that has become synonymous with camera-based applications.

All that said, each company has their own strategy and offers a different out of the box experience, which is nice as opposed to having...

Why the hell didn't they show this at the conference???

Looks absolutely stunning!

Well my point is that I was always led to believe that exclusive games were supposed to be paramount when choosing a console of preference. It's what differentiates one from another.

And now I'm being told that exclusives mean nothing - only what I intend to do with them after I'm done playing with them and how much I paid for the console itself.

Just as I can't play "Sales", I can't play "Pro-Consumerism" or "Lo...

People are saying Sony won because of exactly two things - lack of console-end DRM and the $399 price tag. Those are it. There was little to no gameplay of exclusive games shown in detail or at length. There were mostly trailers and multiplats. Seriously.

People can say Sony won or whatever they like , but it wasn't because of the games they showed.

I think it looks awesome and is definitely a breath of fresh air. However, the online only factor may hurt it in terms of popularity amongst the masses.

Destructoid loses a lot of credibility giving it an F. The conference was well put together and showed plenty of games. I understand not liking DRM or the price point, but their hatred of those things clouded their judgment in terms of what they were actually rating.
