You just had to sacrifice user reviews for December, didn't you? >:(
In any case, it's cool to see this break from the norm. And I'm really excited to see the best ones n4g has to offer. Given which suggestion you went with, would this mean I'm now off the hook from reviewing Rush, Cat? :D
I'd have to say 360's launch line-up:
PGR3 - Though I haven't played it, 3 is critically held higher than F5 from most places
Kameo - Contains a few problems but still a great title
PDZ - A pale shadow to its very ambitious predecessor, but I thought it still makes the cut of being a great launch title when looking at the whole package
Condemned: CO - Another one with annoyances but still deserves to be regarded a...
I honestly still find a lot of the 360's launch titles to be pretty darn good and Resistance: FoM to be to best in that series.
There's been a litany of good launch titles out there, it's just that they typically become overshadowed as devs get a handle on the hardware and keep advancing and advancing.
"as GT5 was bashed by reviews/people for 2d trees, GT5 was marked down because of visual inconsistencies."
That's really, really stretching what the actual complaints were about.
-Standard vehicles, which took up the majority at launch, looked hideous in comparison to the premium ones
-Tracks in general were considered not up to the standard of other racers out there
I'm with you 100% with the review scores bloat angle, though I wouldn't say game critics are worried about looking too soft or bias. To me, it comes back to something those who've had to experience this whole gen are probably feeling: tiredness. After all the yada yada yada, from new game engines to the general outpouring of money for that one moment in HD (though I believe true HD is considered 1080p anyways), I'd say it's just a yearning for something more than packing...
I need to buy this toot sweet!
When did having a familiar template disallow a game from getting a 8/10?
Yeah, despite having a few gripes with it, Condemned is really still showing how to keep first-person melee-focused combat tense and interesting.
I'd still give best 360 launch title to Call of Duty 2 though. It just felt like everything it succeeded at everything it was trying to accomplish: pure WWII action focus layered with open areas and some cinematic sequences. The formula's definitely improved since but 2's remains my favorite.
And I'm probably going to snag the 360 version!
XD
I'm personally glad this one slipped under my radar. Regardless of age, getting a free Double Fine (non-Kinect) game certainly feels like a treat to me.
It doesn't seem like they've announced a price yet.
I'm guessing it'll be a discounted retail title.
I've seen many mention Tomb Raider's implementation is pretty good as well.
I'd liked how Heavy Rain used it too.
I gotta admit...I love that picture.
Perhaps once more if Origins Blackgate gets a quick arcade port to this-gen stuff. Then we'll get the Arkham Now 100% Complete Edition. I wonder what the Limited Edition of that Complete Edition may include. :P
--"Typical mod response not based in fact. There was no "some" that "snuck past." I don't expect you to acknowledge it because you're not paying attention to them."
No, the phrasing of that was based in truth. Again, I'll certainly admit that not every instant of deserved punishment is given, but I'm not going to sit here believing for a moment those missed opportunities are in the majority. Choose to acknowledge that or not...m...
--"What misinformation?"
Allow me to correct myself now in saying disinformation, instead of misinformation. I'll have to cut it into pieces:
"Author's Note: Due to the power trip, and/or grudge, of a particular individual, I am on day 3 of a 5 day comment restriction for rightfully calling someone who was personally attacking me..."
Here there's already 3 mistakes I can see:
-a false presumpt...
"Fortunately" wouldn't exactly the correct term: there's a portion of a blog completely separated from the topic at hand with purposes to both to inform people of your temporary restriction and misinform as to why that punishment was so extended, which now resulted in the typical "mods are biased" opening seen above. You presented the fact you couldn't comment upon submitting but also with what seems to be disinformation (allow me to remind you that is listed ...
Sounds interesting. I'll jot it down in my memory (hopefully I don't forget!).
What the heck is Sleep No More about? I didn't even no this existed until this opinion piece.
So now reviewers have to examine the marketing side of a game to see whether or not some promises were fulfilled? Whatever happened to just examining the quality of the game?
