Didn't play a whole lot of 2013 games yet (haven't even touched the top 3 meta-darlings). So, get ready for a bit of a doge hipster explosion for some categories.
1. Best New Studio : I-Illusions (Element4l)
Just a great, great studio going making a new way to think of platformers. This studio just beats my admiration for Compulsion Games with the great free DLC it offered (I didn't even know it was until yesterday either).

"I've seen COD Ghosts for example get 8s and 9s for being the same old crap, yet something like Killzone Shadow Fall which is actually pretty good and better then COD Ghosts is stuck with lower scores. I mean come on
dmc is another one, better reviews then DMC4 despite the game being an inferior DMC game."
I may not be the biggest fan of many game critics, but you're going to need a better argument than 'a lot of them scored another gam...
I may not jump into fighting games that often now, but one of the few this-gen ones I've tried that turned out to be one of my favorites games of '09 was BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger.
Strange how little is mentioned about that one.
As disappointed as I was in Papo & Yo, this Quiet Enemy title looks like it can be a real winner (haven't heard of it until now).
Nice to see Contrast getting a lot of love from someone. It's got a lot of minor and some big problems on the gameplay design front and a lack of polish, but I still really enjoyed it more expected from those scores.
@#1
Yes, it was. They did previous work like the Minerva's Den DLC, but they should still be counted.
Everyone: try to do it in this order here. It'll be much easier when we're getting ready to count everything up.
Edit: Nothing inherently wrong with tossing in descriptions too like superman and FogKnight, I guess. Just remember there's a 2k character limit.
Adding "from PS1 era and on" would have had me more convinced. :P
And I personally didn't care that much for Drake's Fortune or Jak X: Combat Racing, but the rest are fun. (Jak 2 being my numero uno)
Really? 'Tis a shame because it's one of those 'might buys' in the future for me, but then keep forgetting about it.
You never know...it could actually be both. ;)
Holy schmitt, gaffyh's picture looks amazing. Great effort by winners and even random choice ones too.
Congrats to winners.
Hmmm...I remember that Far Cry HD rumor being thrown about last year. The "budget release" part suggests this could be it.
It strikes me as odd to see such contempt for COD: Ghosts, ie a very polished shooter that's plays it very safe and has some jingoism coursing through its veins, to the point that it can be considered on 'worst of 2013' list such as Yahtzee's. When looking at it from the angle of "what it represents" as an excuse: lowered artistic standards by seeking pure entertainment instead of making the audience feel something deeper, and reeping in more rewards from that easi...
No problem, Jones. It's a fair question to ask.
"Recycling" is not the same thing as "plagiarizing." Sites re-posting news on their site that was originally from another and giving a credit url TO said original site shows that they recognize someone else's journalistic work.
Plagiarism only acknowledges copied work as their own.
Again, there's been no known cases of Tom Chick ever doing that.
It's not about getting a "perfect score" on there. For him, a 5/5 translates into him basically saying "I LOVED Tearaway."
For 4/5 = I really liked this game.
3/5 = Liked it.
2/5 = Didn't like it.
1/5 = Loathed it.
"Again, why is it that HHG is banned from n4g but this troll is allowed to do what he does with every major release and exclusive?"
Because he doesn't have a history of posting plagiarized material.
Oops! Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. :P
No, seriously...this is in the correct section under this kind of circumstance. For this game, and three older n4g officials I've submitted that are under blogs in my account (you can check those out if you'd like), these are review copies that I had an interest in trying out. Cat doesn't want any scores tied to these "n4g reviews," like how Kotaku and others do it, so I'm told to submit them into the b...
"Emphasizing online services, connectivity and social gaming."
Given how that's been accomplished, to vary degrees, on consoles predating the PS4, that doesn't sound revolutionary by any stretch of the imagination.
That's all stuff that's been present for years now and still doesn't seem to be that well thought-out.
-**Whereas Killzone would be called "tired" for having a similar feel to earlier games, Call of Duty would be praised as being "familiar."**
The thing you have to remember, though, is Call of Duty's now-familiar template was the first to innovate in this regard. It's the series that defined this gen with modern-milita...
