That's how I felt about Dear Esther and I'm slightly worried about A Machine for Pigs as well (good thing I grabbed on sale). Whomever they had as writer for DE seemed to be a stylist with language, but chained behind the rarely stimulating walking sim it was made things rather boring. Even the vagueness + changing text through each playthrough made things even more dull after I tried to give it another chance.
Nah, the 0.0 score and possible poop icon hasn't been implemented just yet (just tried it out). Might be saved for the next big site update.
"Can't believe I won again specially seeing as I only submitted one blog last month :)"
That's kind of like my reaction after winning a blog contest #unhumblebrag :P
At the beginning of this year, I never would've expected winning more contests for blogs than user reviews. Funny how that worked out. But n4g's techie team finally giving the ability for 0.0 in user reviews would be worth a whole year's worth of contest prizes. ...
I thought the Bad Company campaigns were pretty fun.
I was definitely surprised by Contrast. The whole 'reviewer' side of me makes it pretty easy to spot problems, both in design and the feeling that it was a bit rushed (though 360 version wasn't as bad as PS4/PC reviews lead me to believe); at the same time, there's actually a brilliant core idea that presents a world of possibilities to the gameplay and storytelling/tone.
nvm @ what i said. I'm keeping it a secret too! [-_-]~
*Grumbles* That makes sense.

Awesome! Thanks for the selection Cat and cgood. I'm still panting from all the copy/pasta I had to do for the contributor stuff too. :P Now that seals the deal on reaching each standard n4g prize category. (Hooray!) Edit: Shame I actually had to come back and edit this when I should remember: CONGRATS to other winners.
@Cat:
Why doesn't Maria's blog have quotation marks around the title like the other ones? You wouldn't give me somethi...
Indeed, Ride to Hell certainly destroys TLOU in the 'most deserving of the bargain bin' category. :P
I thought KZ2's story was rather "meh" overall so that doesn't get me too excited for 3 and Shadow Fall.
Never fear, coolbeans am here!
Edit: There you go. :) (And be sure to submit a ticket when you need editing help like this.)
When you get down to the nitty-gritty of it all, there really isn't in regards to assessment. Just like a game can feel masterfully-crafted even with a few smudge marks most gamers can agree on noticing, the same can be said for a diabolically-crafted one that may actually do something right (at least in comparison to everything else).
It would be a shame to see commentors give someone a lot of guff over 0/10 scores and the like which could harm they're chances of ...
When you're talking about a title that's been universally panned on every site it's been reviewed, it's not tough to notice some overlap in what's being criticized. With that said, I'd recommend you re-watch that review again because I'm certain this and AJ's script shouldn't be categorized as very, very similar. Heck, even the general attitude in our final score's kind of varies: he utterly and honestly despises it; I'm almost left laughing at so...
Sure, but when was it determined that a flat-out 0 score couldn't be the lowest score possible to a reviewer for something that's still playable? Since institutions like quality control are around to weed out something utterly broken, there's no harm in our evolving standards giving out 0 scores to playable that feel absolutely abominable to play just like film critics can give zeros out to watchable films that are abominable to watch.
This rigid .1 stricture k...
That comes off as such an artificial way of assessing a game's final quality. No matter what the quality of certain aspects of a game may contain, they now HAVE to get at least a 0.1 as a sort of 'E for Effort' grade?
Folded for that Ni No Kuni deal. Curse you, sales!!!
Although I don't completely agree, I do think that's a good springboard for interesting discussion.
I wouldn't say I hate these articles, but I get annoyed of the sentiment that 'this' explanation being the only way to look at it. At the same time, it's a great opportunity to see others who're possibly much more well-versed at this stuff than me dive into the subject at hand and provide reasoning for what makes this or that story/gameplay elemen...
At least it's only three this time. :P
lol pretty much. I still feel like complaining b/c my backlog is even bloated now (Daedalic titles, Anti-Chamber, Thomas Was Alone). Dang it, Valve!
Saying Gears 3's campaign was downright bad was the reason I respectfully disagreed.
