My problem with the Vita is that because it does games only I would find I'd leave it at home more often than not in favor of my 7" tablet. Sure its the best mobile gaming only device but my needs have matured beyond that.
Loved this game on the Amiga!!!
Consumers were not duped into buying smartphones and tablets. If a product offers what the consumer wants at the right price it will generally sell.
Smartphone/tablets do more than just gaming, perhaps Sony/Nintendo should have considered this rather than just focusiing on gaming. Honestly, I love having access to a whole lot of apps, having a decent web browser, native movie playback support, change my UI to make it look and work how I want on my android device.
...
Well, graphics seem to be advancing faster in terms of visual quality than reality that's for sure.
@hawk
Obviously it is too expensive otherwise it would be....what do you call it?...oh yes, selling.
Sony may be prepared to limp along with slow sales but what will developers do? Reduce development costs by gimping on features or quality, focus on "casual" titles, drop support all together.
@gribble
Your 100% right. Does not need to beat the 3DS but it does need a good size install base to avoid becoming a dumping ground for over priced shovelware. Look at how quickly a game like Gravity Rush disappeared from global software charts. Why would a developer spend millions bringing games to market if they are not going to see a good ROI.
Of course the 3DS has been out longer however, if Sony are pleased with these numbers then Sony must only be aiming for mediocrity.
Is LBP on Vita really going to be a system seller? Maybe if its bundled with a free memory card.
Has LBP actually been a big seller on PS3, what's the ratio of consoles per game units sold?
My kids love LBP but they are not hounding me to buy a Vita for it.
Can't believe it didn't sell a lot better than it did. Came and went in a couple of weeks.
How is IOS and Android gaming looking? I don't see slumping sales in the smartphone and tablet markets.
Doesn't matter which one may or may not be better. Fact of the matter is smartphones are more desired by the masses. The Vita has proven that a gaming only device that is priced like a smartphone just doesn't sell.
WWZ....great book, definitely interested in this game and hope Hollywood does not bastardise it next year with the release of the movie.
You may get sick of it but smartphone and tablet devices are being embraced by the masses. Like it or not its where the money is for developers as well.
Give me a phone that is the nebulous to my gaming experience. On the move its a mobile gamer, docked next to my tv at home its now the centre of my media and gaming hub.
"The devs get lazy".
That's a lazy opinion. Game development is a business. Adding in split screen costs time and money. If adding it in is not likely to generate significant revenue for a devlopment house then why would they?
Honestly, do you really think developers turn up to work and decide to cut things from a game cause they are feeling lazy!?!
I have not been a pc gamer in years but consoles just stagnate for too long. I now like having the flexibility of being able to upgrade to a level that I can afford.
Yes its more expensive over time than console gaming but a pc is more than just gaming.
If the AI is as good as the gameplay looks then I'm gonna have to upgrade my PC for this game. It looks stunning. Gameplay footage looks pretty much like these stills.
Wow, name one console that has ever lived up to marketing hype.
@capt
Good idea, a half decade wait seems like a good plan. Maybe I should have done that with the Go and saved myself $400 in 2010.
In 6 months time we'll know if the Vita has found its place. Right now I can't tell if it will become another Go or not. Its simply not selling from what I can see. Games certainly don't feature for long on top 10 lists either so developers must be finding ot hard to turn a profit from it as well.
@gins ...
Just remind me of how many games are being sold for PS2 in the US right now?
Are you still going to claim the US is a PS2 zone in 30 years time?
