It was the last in the series I actually liked, before they went full-blown grindfest. This game had grindy features too, but at least it had some limits.
My biggest issue was that it didn't move the modern story forward which was a let down. Still a fun game, though.

The third game focusing on Venom is a great idea. Venom would be a nice change of pace for the story and different mission objectives.
Though, it's also possible it'd be a 'double story' type of campakgn where you play as both Spider-Man and Venom.

Mikami wants to release games on systems popular in Japan, and that's Nintendo and Sony. Definitely doesn't want to spend 5+ years of his life making Xbox & PC exclusives that many from his fan base can't play.
What happened is that the awesome 'old guard' who originally started Xbox left the company. Those people were passionate and were real gamers wanting to give us actual quality games to play. They supported SEGA with titles like Shenmue II, Jet Set Radio Future, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Gun Valkyrie.
The old guard is long gone now, the current executives are desperate for more market share after being around for 20 years and failing to make enough progress and profit. So...

GameStop has been warned for nearly 20 years over their crappy business practices, but they didn't listen. Instead they became worse, and grew more desperate, trying to cash in on those ugly Funko Pop junk, instead of trying to become a fun 'gamers paradise' type of place and build meaningful customer relationships that creates long-term loyalty.
Hypothetically, if the entire industry went subscription service in the future, then I would abandon all future games and play from the 8-Bit NES era up to the PS5 era. There's thousands of amazing games to play from those decades, enough to last me many lifetimes over.
The thing is that young people today will grow up thinking that these trash GAAS filler titles are 'good games' because they don't have a frame of reference of what true masterpieces actually...
Mania was a good game, had some flaws, but overall enjoyable. However, I don't want Mania 2 if it isn't developed by a competent team. The people who made Sonic Mania are busy working on their own fast-paced 3D platformer, so they are currently unavailable.
