Prior to the showcase I believed the IP to be dead. But apparently Konami wants to go back to the well and profit off our nostalgia again. So now I believe there's a very good chance of MGS 4, finally getting ported. They'd be leaving money on the table if they don't go for it, and they know that.
Its overblown how people think it's too difficult to port. No, it's not too difficult, it can be done, as long as there's a will, there's a way.
Don't blame the developers, blame the executives running the publishing company. They are always the people who knowingly and willingly release broken, unfinished games.
The developers are the people constantly crunching for endless hours trying to meet unfair deadlines set upon them.
Don't show it until it's ready. This is actually the right decision to make. Even if whiney, impatient gamers don't realize that.
They should waited until the gameplay itself was ready to be shown.
Also getting tired of all these recent games with paint or emblems crap on people's faces. It doesn't look cool like the edgey dev team members think it does.
I agree with you 100%, but Konami's president is a well known prick, so he'll never admit he was wrong.
The best we can hope for is two sets of credits. One for the remake team and one for the original PS2 dev team. It's the least Konami can do. But will they do the bare minimum?
By camera, you mean the aiming mechanics? The 3DS port had mordernized aiming ripped directly from Peace Walker. So yeah it'll work fine for this remake.
I would have liked to see the MSX MG 1 & 2 remade as well, or the first MGS as you said. If this sells well enough, expect more remakes.
MGS 1 is fine as it is, even to this day. I beat it just two years ago, on original hardware, and had a great time, as I always do with it. I've beaten it so many times, that it always feel so natural to me, whereas I've attempted to play through Twin Snakes many times, and always give up on it. I tried on Dolphin, I tried on Wii, but I end up greatly disliking everything about it.
And besides, Nintendo likely helped fund Twin Snakes, the dev team Silicon Knights is...
As big of an MGS fan as I am, I wasn't satisfied with the HD Collection. Missing content, such as skateboarding, Snake vs. Monkey, Guy Savage, and online multiplayer. Then of course the bugs, including no double-tap L1 to center both camera axis. And Colonel Campbell voice actor changing dialog during MGS 2 codec for the PS3 port, even when it was unnecessary, just to have it be identical to the Xbox 360 dialog, was such a stupid decision.
Bluepoint made a lot of mistak...
4K is likely a given, why not? But knowing Konami, I don't have complete faith in them.
MGS 2 ran at 60 FPS even on PS2.
MGS 3 had more complex environments so it ran at 30 FPS on PS2.
PW ran at 20 FPS on PSP to conserve battery life (you can hack it to run at 30 FPS, but naturally your battery drains faster).
All of them ran at 60 FPS on PS3.

I'm in the minority, I beat the game and even got the Plat, but didn't really enjoy much of it. There was potential, but it was afflicted with the "Ubisoft design philosophy" which is to say, it was a constant resource-scouring slog and grind fest. Don't get me started on the terrible throwaway, generic plot, and laughable embarrassing ending (yes I truly busted out laughing at it).
Or how the "final boss" was a shitty QTE event. The whole g...
People get mad when games are announced too soon, but then they also get mad when games aren't announced at all. We know that Sony 1st party teams are hard at work, and we also know games are taking longer than ever to develop and polish, yet still we see ignorant complaints. Simple fact is, Sony will be hated on no matter what.
The showcase featured a fair number of games I wanted to play, and while I wanted to see more 1st party games, as an actual grown adult, I can ...
Nintendo doesn't want to keep the online store open because they don't care about 3DS or game preservation. But they also don't want piracy, because they don't care about their fans. Nintendo doesn't care about anyone but themselves, and their ability to exert control over their fan base.
They've already done dialog edits with MGS 2 HD, so it's entirely possible that they'd change this line as well.
I don't like hearing about these edits. Bluepoint already made the PS3 version worse with different voice acting for Colonel Campbell during some codec dialog, but now we get more downgrades?
Hope it's nothing too severe.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a Limited Run physical copy and Collector's Edition in the future, then.
MGS 4 is definitely possible, Konami is extremely rich in Japan, and they can easily afford to re-sign licenses with companies. However if they can't or choose not to, then texture maps can be swapped out for "Peach OS" instead of "Apple OS". Altair's costume can be removed, food names can be changed, etc. It's really not that hard, as long as you put some effort into it. No different than removing Brad Buxon's music from Sonic 3 in order for Sonic Origin...
I was a huge fan of the early AC games, but hated the later ones starting with Origins. Ubisoft has been shitting the bed for nearly 10 years now with endless grind, resource collecting, upgrades, loot boxes, and micro-trash-actions. This seems to be their acknowledgement that they've strayed too far from the original concept of the series, which is good. However, I won't be giving them my money. I believe in voting with my wallet, and Ubisoft no longer gets my money, even if this loo...
Trailer tried to trick us, showing us a bunch of ants for some reason. Not the direction I'd take an MGS trailer, but whatever. The last time Konami funded an MGS game, it was always-online, focused on loot boxes, EXP grinding, and skill trees. Featured micro-trash-actions, one of the worst single player campaigns I've ever played, and a low number of multiplayer maps.
Is the Survive team developing this? Are the executives going to get involved in the game design, ...
The crash happened in the USA console market (not arcades) back in 1983 because the games were so simple and boring back then, with very limited replay value. It's easy to understand why people lost interest in home consoles that had such basic games, and controllers with a single button on them.
Modern hardware from Sony, Nintendo, Nvidia, and mobile phones won't stop selling any time soon. And quality games also won't stop selling either. Tears of the Kingdom ...
