I would say an obvious advantage of only having one difficulty option is you don't need to deliberate and consider which mode to play on, only to wonder if you picked the right one for the experience. With no context for any of the modes ("hard" in one game could be easier than "normal" in another) and no idea if we're losing because we're yet to understand the mechanics, need more practice, haven't noticed something that would allow us to win, or if the ga...

I think different games benefit from having different difficulties. A game like Tearaway or LocoRoco is meant to be a serene experience, so it wouldn't make any sense to have a "hard" mode. It should be simple enough.

Alternatively, I personally think horror/thriller style games should be hard. An easy horror game just isn't scary, and sometimes having moments of confusion or being unsure how to proceed amplifies the feelings of dread and desperation in th...

"And since when is an 83 on metacritic considered a disappointment?"

I can't comment on TLG since I haven't played it yet, but MGSV has a 93 on MC and is considered by a large part of the fanbase to be a massive letdown and the worst MGS ever. (Which is how I feel) Then there's GTA4, a 98 on metacritic but was considered a disappointment to many fans of the series. (Myself included) So I don't think metacritic is a good indicator.

Exactly. The gaming community as a whole gets butthurt over scores for popular games.

I can remember when Twilight Princess for the Wii got 8.8 from Gamespot and Nintendo fans were outraged by this "hatred" towards Nintendo. It's just bizarre. And like you said, no game will be loved by everyone. A 10/10 to me could be a 5/10 to someone else, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Considering I already own HD, Fury and 2048 on the Vita, I don't see any reason to buy this. But good for those who haven't had a chance to play these games.

Exactly. Competition is everything. The better MS does the harder Sony will work to outdo them, the harder MS will work to match Sony, the harder Nintendo will try...

This is why I always disagree when people say gaming would be better if there was just one system that played every game available. If there was no competition, there would be no need to innovate, to price competitively, to support developers in bringing them exclusives that otherwise wouldn't exist, to ...

Most disappointing game of this gen for me (and of all time, actually) would be MGSV. Nothing else comes close.

Personally I thought Watch Dogs was awesome, but I understand I'm in the minority. It wasn't a revolution in open world games, but I had tons of fun with it and played from start to finish, completing most of the side quests.

Yeah, many people have been dragged into the hype for this game, despite never playing Ico and SotC. Honestly, I feel sorry for them. These games aren't about simply "one-upping" the last one; they're all different experiences and I'm sure all 3 games will have people calling them their favourite. That's how it should be.

But so many people don't want to play the older games because they want what's "new" and "fresh," t...

@Stogz

And here we have another assumption made by gamers. I just so happened to mention a Sony game in my example so OBVIOUSLY I was insinuating that it's mostly Sony fans that do it, and pretending others don't. Despite the fact in my comment I said "gamers as a whole."

But I just so happened to use a PS4 game as an example so... "Must be a Microsoft fanboy!" Despite the fact I own a PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PSP, Vita, and don'...

Plenty of salty disagrees despite the fact you're right. Gamers as a whole are wholly unwelcoming when it comes to opinions that are outside the general consensus.

"They gave Uncharted 4 an 8! It's worth at least an 8.5! Click bait angry Microsoft fanboy confirmed!" XD

Regardless, The Last Guardian has been my most anticipated game for the past few years and I am getting it no matter what!

Edit: I'd be interested t...

New Wipeout? NEW WIPEOUT!?

*Violently smashes champagne fountain*

Sorry, I couldn't hear you over the sound of running champagne. Did you say new Wipeout?

SSX Tricky and SSX3 weren't just great sports games. They were defining experiences of the PS2 era and two of the greatest games of all time. Hardcore or casual, sports fan or not, SSX is just plain fun for everyone. Impeccable level design, fantastic soundtracks, addictive gameplay, vibrant visuals, replayability...

Steep's chances of eclipsing that are extremely slim.

It was a confusing console. It has some excellent games, but ironically, most of them are better played WITHOUT the tablet controller that was the system's one big innovation. A shame, really.

I know, I know, everybody is thinking the exact same thing. A game with potential that didn't live up to what it could have been, and ended up being a rather bland, repetitive adventure with basically no story. A game that should've been released as a budget title but was given a full price tag. Other titles in existence that do what it set out to do, but are much more accomplished. Broken dreams, and lost possibilities. But we have to move on now. We have to collectively take a deep ...

Have to agree. Just because the backlash got a bit out of hand doesn't make the complaints any less valid. We do not want to create a culture where developers can say whatever they want and then just shrug if the product isn't what they promised.

I do respect, however, their work on the foundation update.

Right now my gut feeling is that FFXV is not for me, so I'm trying not to get sucked in by the hype. Back before MGSV was released my gut feeling was that it wouldn't be all that great, but then trailer hype followed by 9s and 10s from reviewers so I ignored my gut and bought it. And... it was the biggest disappointment in all my 25 years of gaming.

So I'm going with my gut on this one and not buying.
