The article shows ALL TVs. The Sony Display is just that.....a Display. It's not meant to be used specifically as a TV (there's not even a tuner). Couple in the fact that you get an HDMI cable (two games if you pre-order with Amazon/GameStop) + SimulView (Sony patented technology) and the deal doesn't look so ''intimidating' 9;.
Remember it's not a TV (has no tuner). It's mainly a Display/Monitor
That said, Amazon just made the deal even sweeter for many more people. I've already pre-ordered mine with GameStop, couldn't Resist (pun intended).
Liverpool does more than just make games, they spread their talent across many of Sony's 1st Party studios (not to mention, neither EyePet nor Wipeout were "worthless"). For instance, they helped with the tech of Motorstorm: Apocalypse (a game who's technical specifications are really unrivaled on several fonts - such as the best 3D representation on the PS3).
Well put. If Sony were a moan to work with, we'd hear more about it. When nearly every developer says the exact opposite, it makes their business model sound much more attractive. Many of these studios wouldn't be where they are without Sony (Capcom, Namco, & Square-Enix included). It just so happens that their 1st party studios TRULY wouldn't be relevant had the PlayStation brand not been as powerful as it is and has been.
@ Dramscus: Thank you! I swear when i hear "everything should multiplat", I shake my head. Don't people realize there's no point in multiple systems if those systems share the same library?
As for this article, it's intriguing, but I disagree. Sony's strength now mainly comes from their in-house studios (couldn't be said of the PlayStation 2 or the original PlayStation, where they mainly depended on studios that weren't theirs). With that tal...
@ Stealth: They need to talk about profit for us to know it profited?
I'm curious, how do you know Killzone 3 made no money? On top of that, do you play profits or games?
Anyway, this year has been packed full of games (especially for PS3), but I enjoyed the first half of 2010 better because this year hasn't had any titles that hit me like God of War III, Heavy Rain, & Alan Wake did. I have a feeling my thoughts will change dramatically once the Fall titles start releasing, however!
@ MasterCornholio: I'm not sure how that tackles (or negates) any of what I said (especially if you read my last sentence). If anything, you complimented my point.
Based on what? It's a 24" Display with HDMI cables, full 1080p/3D functionality, Full HD for TWO screens, 3D glasses and a game (to if you pre-order from GameStop - one of which is native 1280x1080p and upscales just right to 1920x1080p to boast one of the Display's capabilities).
I'm not see how it's "expensive as heck" with that value, but I can understand saying you don't have $500 to drop on any bundle.
I was about to post this for US people. With this, not only is the problem solved, you get even more bang for your buck!
I see why you would do a 1-hit wonder comment like this, it's all you're allowed. :)
Jokes aside; no it didn't sell badly, quite the opposite in fact.
How would this be any indication of that?
For those of you in the United States, just pre-order the bundle from GameStop. It comes with Motorstorm: Apocalypse, but you get Resistance 3 as a bonus now just for the pre-order. So you get everything you would have before, except with both games.
It comes out in November. In fact, it's always been pegged for a late 2011 release, so this news has no bearing on that.
I'm not sure how anyone who was planning to get this day 1 with Resistance 3 can complain. You'll still be getting Resistance 3 if you pre-order the TV, but now it comes with an additional game for the exact same price. Unless of course, you don't want to deal with GameStop, then I understand.
Which I have. ;)
So you get both? Sweeeeeet!
Besides maybe Assassin's Creed and CoD, what multiplatform franchises sell significantly more than exclusives? And how should those exclusives be selling?
It's only a "bad investment" if Sony isn't making any money and/or their franchises make no impact in the industry.
I'm not sure I follow.
The best part about this; Sony's wonderful logo is still on the bottom right of the "360 box art".
Ah well, any one "in the know" realized this was just a typo and that Sony owns the Resistance IP. In other words, nothing to see here.
