I didn't get that from the article. It goes back to TR a lot because that's the example the article is all about.

The point is that Lara Croft is a well-developed character in her own right and doesn't fall into a cliche personality. She's very strong and vulnerable at the same time. She's friendly, but also ruthless and hardened when she has to be. She gets frightened by how easy it feels kill for her own survival. She's brilliant and insightful, bu...

Lesbians are women, too. And not all of them are butch and super-tough by any means. Straight women are capable of doing everything they can. There's no implication unless you're looking too much into it.

That could have just reduced her to the sex-symbol fantasy many saw her old incarnations as in the eyes of many. It wouldn't be fair, but that would probably happen if she was a lesbian.

I wonder if this is why Lara's relationship with Sam seemed a kinda les-yay. The endearment, the hugging, Sam becoming a classic damsel in distress for Lara. I attributed it to a close friendship, but it definitely crossed my mind for a second.

Also this is a misq...

The industry outside of the indie market hasn't been taking enough risks and I can say that with full confidnece.

We're at the upteenth installment of the CoD franchise. We're seeing tons of threequels and for series like Resident Evil and Halo it's going even further. We have once-innovative franchises like Assassin's Creed getting annualized. Tons of generic new IP's that only run in the tracks of popular long-running franchises. We have developers...

They said they were outright told she needed to be male. It was at least a factor.

I'm going to trust that over fabricated, conjectured theories and time-machine people who can tell the game sucks.

I'm not going to exactly blame these publishers, here. A new IP with a female protagonist is a big risk and can easily cause fairly lower sales. The consumer base's inabillity to empathize or look past a female lead is the big reason. These companies just are't willing to take that risk, it doesn't mean they're the ones who are prejudiced.

Capcom did something right creatively, for once. The industry won't evolve if it doesn't take risks.

The tale being told is better than the gameplay? That's a first for a review of this game. Can't say I really agree, there. And consensus seems to agree with me.

I can see the Fallout 3 one being justified. The annihilation of millions isn't a small deal, espeically in the country it happened that also has stronger customs of appretiating ancestors. And keep in mind Japan may not be so lenient as western countries on this stuff to begin with. I can see another culture looking at a western media and being disgusted how we can make humor of tragedies like the holocaust and 9/11. TL;DR It's a different culture where such an issue hits much closer...

It's pretty much the same case as every generation before. People who enjoy the console experience have nothing to worry about with this spec talk.

I enjoyed TR more overall and that's not just nastolgia speaking, coming from someone who has played through all Uncharted games at least once and very much enjoyed them. TR is waaay better than Drake's Fortune, though, before I felt the franchise really came into its own. I'm talking more UC2 and 3.

I think the combat is smoother and more organic and the platforming more flexible and free with the level design. Lara controls like a dream. Enemies and combat never...

It's an excellent game and does a great job breathing new life into the franchise, but it isn't quite a masterpiece. It's also very heartening to just see a great TR game again.

I'd definitely put it up there with some of the best action-adventure titles this gen. I enjoyed it more than Uncharted (1 and 3 anyway) with the more open areas and smoother and deeper gameplay, but there are flaws and room to improve. I'm going to be excited when they announce ...

I disagree about the platforming. She doesn't have the moves she used to (yet), but the level design and flexibility of her jumps give a lot more of a sense of freedom than Uncharted and the like. Controlling her is very nimble and smooth beyond, at least, almost every other TPS I can think of.

I bought TR because it's a good game. Perhaps a some of the audience bought it with sex appeal being a big factor, I mean there are plenty of people like that, but I'd like to think people respect this as a game and Lara as an icon beyond the sex appeal.

You aren't going to change people. Nor is online behavior of consumers really representative of the industry.

So I can call EA the corporate devil? Finally.

I'd attribute it more to the mainstream industry deliberately abandoning the horror genre, but that's just me.

Did you play the game? Only in the beginning and very stressful parts she does she do that, where everyone would realistically be like that. Nor is it looped.

Tomb Raider has a lot of intense moments, but that doesn't make horror. An atmospheric action thriller is a more accurate description.

I'm tired of Kratos and these prequels, to be honest. I feel like his story is done and this milking just does a disservice to him. I sincerely hope they stop dragging him out after this.

I'd suggest moving on to another mythology preferably with a new protagonist. There's plenty gods of war in various mythologies.

I hope they focus on more complex puzzles in the future. The ones present were good for what they were, but relatively straightforward. But in way they were better than the "Pull a switch and get to the other side of the room before times runs out." kinda deal.

The combat and gameplay evolution, atmostphere/tone, and revision of Lara herself are all fantastic, though. There's even a semi-open design to several of the environments giving a decent amount of room...
