I am with Kingdip.

There is nothing wrong with meaningful dialog over those kinds of heavy topics, especially regarding an industry that is in it's relative infancy. The problem is that the people posting on the internet don't usually want that. They operate under the pretense that that's what they want, but in truth the internet simply gives them an infinitely accessible platform on which to rage.

An advocacy group got some boobies taken out of a...

I don't think people realize how much this changes the dynamic of the game, is all. More time will go into worrying about dickish invaders than will go into exploring and immersing oneself in the world. In other words, it's going to be less about conquering the game and more about avoiding idiots.

Plus, as much as I enjoyed a good, fair pvp fight in Dark Souls, when I was not necessarily trying to throw my e-peen around I found that the camaraderie between the players...

I'm not even 30 yet and I'm with Kingdip. There is such an emphasis on getting gamers addicted to competitive multiplayer these days, that I find myself playing much, much less than I used to.

Not that there is anything inherently wrong with multiplayer, but it is such an addiction with so many gamers these days that they tend to not care when they are paying for repackaged crap over and over again...so developers just keep making repackaged crap over and over again. ...

Much as I think TLoU quite easily deserves the GotY award, a few of these seem a wee bit slanted. For instance, art direction and innovation. Tearaway, for example, I think should have snagged the innovation award easily, and Rayman Legends is ridiculous levels of beautiful.

...and news story of the year...that seems like such a boring, mundane thing to choose for that kind of award.

Plus in general, the controls in AC have become so "streamlined" now that the characters kind of just do whatever the hell they feel like half the time.

I can't tell you how many times in Black Flag I wanted to hide behind some boxes only to have Kenway climb on top of it like an idiot.

You literally cannot smell yourself. I've got a brother that will tell me when I am stinking in one way or another, and by god, I can never tell when he points it out. I can get my nose right up into my...crevices, and still not smell anything. But when I cross-reference with other people, his story always checks out.

Not that that's any excuse. A shower at least every other day is pretty much required just to keep the stickiness and oils at bay, even if there isn'...

I wish these lists didn't almost always consist of JRPG's and classic NES stuff.

Not that I don't love me some of that bombastic orchestral epicness and catchy chiptunes, but there is so much more good video game music out there.

There really was no reason for me to make that comment. I apologize.

I'm just...so sick of WoW at this point.

This article could be completely blank and that title would still be appropriate.

...they look like they're goddamn 6 years old, dude.

Yes, most women (and men for that matter) outside the "online forum-dweller" demographic are going to think this stuff is a little creepy.

I REALLY don't like what they did to her face, but everything else does look better on the PS4 version.

I choose video games over relationships because video games don't look at me funny when I'm playing with them in the nude and simultaneously trying to sip a Mountain Dew and eat a bag of Funyuns.

The same cannot be said of women.

@badz

I think people are trying to make this into a "Microsoft vs. Sony" type of situation, when it's really not.

This is a much larger precedent than some petty console war BS.

You're missing the point. We are already being asked to swallow a pretty giant pill these days given the sorry state of DRM and concept of ownership in the industry.

Now, we're also essentially being used as beta testers for unfinished games....that are STILL FULL PRICE.

So...we only THOUGHT that pill was to be taken orally. It's actually a suppository.

...I hear ya. I'm not getting involved in this crap again. If they ever release a worthy successor to Eternal Darkness, then happy, happy day.

Until then, though, I have no expectations for anything noteworthy to come from this team ever again.

They're obviously not ALL about graphics, but building atmosphere is a very, very large part of the game's greatness in my opinion.

And although I wouldn't say that the graphics look WORSE than the first Dark Souls, I have to say that they definitely look no better (and in fact seem to be using most of the same assets as the first one).

It is a little disappointing, but in the end I don't think it's going to matter. Dark Souls is still lo...

Yeah, I love the genre, but I just didn't find the narrative all that interesting.

All of the mystery and foreboding was pretty much diffused within a half hour or so and it ended up just being an extended reading of some sexually confused teen's diary. It was about as interesting as watching an episode of Dawson's Creek.

I liked the Riot grrrl soundtrack though.

Yeah, I inadvertently endorsed his comment there, but I didn't mean to. Just making an observation.

And I don't necessarily disagree with you here nor do I blame you for getting defensive.

I just always find it sad when the stupidity of the internet claims the undivided attention of otherwise interesting bloggers.

In all fairness, your blogs HAVE been getting almost insufferably cynical and condescending.

I used to enjoy reading your blogs even when I disagreed with you, but lately you've been letting your annoyance with the community cloud your focus.

It simply doesn't make any sense.

Whether you want to acknowledge that games are art or not, entertainment is still subject to personal experience and all the subjectivity that that entails. You cannot dictate the way people interpret things simply by denying it's categorization as "art."

That's why I can make a statement like: "The Avengers was a much better movie than Catwoman." Because everything is still at the mercy of pe...
