Super Mario 3D Land is sort of the defining 3DS experience, as far as I'm concerned. There are games that I actually like a little better, but there is no game on the system that takes better advantage of the technology.

...plus it's just a damn fun game.

The 2DS is literally just a less portable version of the 3DS without the 3D. If you can swing the extra 40 bucks, then I definitely would. I'm not going to say that the 3D is ever ESSENTIAL, but it really does enhance the games on the system that were designed to take advantage of it.

It's just the way of the world.

I would say that people "these days" have forgotten what it means to be a gamer instead of a fanboy, but in all honesty, this has been going on since the industry's infancy.

I learned a long time ago that I get so much more out of the medium by just going where the games are....and there are awesome games literally everywhere, regardless of platform.

I DO agree with you. There's absolutely no reason to shoehorn entertainment into narrow categorizations.

But if you're going to subvert one aspect of a game (like interactivity) then the other aspects have to be done so well as to make up for it. Despite what the hardcore fans would have you believe, I think most of the game's detractors have more of a problem with the fact that the writing and story just aren't that great. And when the writing and story aren&...

It wasn't the difficulty. It was constantly being treated like an idiot. Go here, do this, do that, no, you can't go there yet, hey where are you going, you're not supposed to be here, there is a 99.9% chance that you are going the right/wrong way...

Not to mention the fact that Nintendo thought we were so stupid that we would forget what a grasshopper was between play sessions.

Not that other games don't it too, but in Skyward Sword it was so...

It's good to hear that he's acknowledging some of the feedback from Skyward Sword. It had some of the most obnoxious hand-holding I have ever seen in a game.

Edit: I can't even joke about that. The game still looks incredible.

I'm going to be honest here...I hear the "n" word muttered, in one form or another, on a daily basis at my work.

...I work at a High School.

And now Nintendo and Ubisoft are going to get crucified for releasing a commercial containing a word that KIND OF sounds like it?

Yeah, this certainly hasn't gotten out of hand. /s

Just because a philosophy is antiquated does not mean that wisdom cannot be mined from it's more fundamental aspects.

Plus, in a fantasy setting, it is generally understood that philosophy and science can be bent to fit the context of the given fiction.

I have to say, this video did quite a bit to alleviate some of my worry, though the pads still seemed a little wonky for things that did not involve "pointer" like movement.

For instance, the free-look in FPS's and the pointer controls in games like Civ 5 looked fantastic, but the movement portion of the control scheme seemed a bit less precise in FPS's.

@LOGICWINS

It's true. You can go to any given comment section of a site that didn't score the game an eight or up, and all you see is: "IT'S NOT SOME GENERIC SHOOTER...XBOTS!"

I enjoyed Heavy Rain and Fahrenheit quite a bit, but I fully understand the beef that people have with QD's games.

It's not that they don't want a game that straddles the line between game and movie. It's that QD has NEVER had stron...

It is simply perspective, complete with all the bias and subjective opinion that putting that into words entails. Whether we agree or disagree with whatever is said, we should still be able to appreciate that we are looking at the game from a perspective that is not our own.

And just for the record, if everyone is agreeing with every review that's being written, then I have bad news. We may very well have all entered into some sort of unified collective unconscious, and t...

I like ARR too, but I don't understand how you could think the rest of the genre is boring, but still enjoy ARR. It stays very, VERY close to the MMO blueprint.

The sad thing about so many of these stories is that the public never really gets the honest-to-god truth.

You get two sides barking at each other over events that a very select few even witnessed in the first place, so all of the arguing and debating ends up as nothing but a bunch of empty conjecture and shallow white-knighting.

I'm tired of jumping behind all these little controversies without any real frame of reference. The internet just likes to squa...

@1OddWorld

I think the point is that it doesn't really matter who has the BETTER track record (if something like that could even be objectively proven in the first place).

All of the "big three" have made incredible, industry-defining games over the years, whether it be for pushing polygons or an incredible story or just damn fun gameplay.

Brand loyalty is a completely irrational and erroneous behavior in an industry that has s...

It wasn't so much the camera itself that was anti-consumer. It was the implementation. They could have designed the system around the Kinect and NOT forced features that basically turned the thing into a corporate spy-cam.

...oh wait...they totally changed direction with that? Those privacy shattering features that were essential to the functionality of the device were done away with within a couple of months?

Yeah, Microsoft was just seeing what they cou...

I can't seem to get good at RTS's. I like watching the action too much. You have to constantly be micro managing this and that all the time, and I end up failing because I want to watch my armies demolish towns.
