There are plenty of games, more than I can play actually. And this year we already know of three from XSEED, plus all of Sony's 1st party stuff - Killzone, Soul Sacrifice (can't wait). Phantasy Star Online 2 should be out soonish and Gungho will likely bring Picoto Knights and a few others over. Furthermore NISA hasn't announced any Vita stuff yet and there are a tonne of JRPGs sitting in the East that I'm sure they will pick up.
Now, moving on. More to the po...
@Rupert. Folklore, Genji, Rain (think that's what its called, not Heavy Rain), Gravity Rush, Heavenly Sword, Demon's Souls, Soul Sacrifice, Tokyo Jungle. I could go on and on. All new IPs, all created by Sony (1st party) in the last 5 years or so. What's interesting is about 1/2 of those weren't commercial explosions, yet Sony made them anyway. That's how you spur creativity. You don't keep painting the same picture and expect it to be just as evocative as the last, yo...
Well to start off, he called the entire N4G community "stupid", so that set the tone for hostility, not discussion, right there.
It is the process of creativity that drives invention and ingenuity. Developers and publishers should always be pushing for new IP. Continuing to capitalize upon a successful franchise while outputting next to nothing that is new is not good. Eventually, you go creatively bankrupt. People who think that Mario will endure for all time at t...
There's nothing wrong with not liking Mario. It doesn't make you inbred or a nazi or anything. And if you take away Mario, or lifestyle software and get down to the games really, the proportion of desirable content gets exponentially smaller. What new IPs has Nintendo put out lately? 1st party stuff. Not sporadic titles that get released every 5 years or so, but genuine fresh IPs that they nurture and build? What was AAA, 1st party, fresh IP? I can't even recall.
A shameful fake. Not even a half decent photoshop job if you examine the plasticity of the text. It looks like they used MS Paint.
I'm talking about how next-gen boxes and their infrastructure (PSN/ Live) will be the better than this gen. I've built every PC I've ever owned, so I know a fair bit myself. Regarding the Cell, since we're onto next-gen boxes and backwards compatability is out, that seems a rather irrelevant point to discuss. Still, when programming for the Cell, a lot of devs take the easier - but workable - way out and just instruct the 3. something (3.2Ghz? I can't recall) CPU for relat...
From two developers, and the next gen consoles aren't even out yet. The problem with games journalism is that its entirely reactionary and without a sound basis in forecasting or reality. The next two soon to be "current gen" consoles are due in 6-8 months. I think that it would be wise to withhold from making any wild assumptions until they are here.
You realize that Sony and MS are both using off the shelf computer components right? And that both PSN and Live have way more "indie" games than all of Nintendo's platforms combined? Indie games will be EVERYWHERE next gen, not just on certain platforms.
One indie game does not a bright future make. And who's to say that this won't be on the Nextbox and PS4 with their "off the shelf" PC parts and far more developed online infrastructure. I'd be shocked if Sony at least doesn't continue to open up their walled garden mentality. Indies will be on every platform that allows them, that's how the industry is flowing.
Star Ocean was announced as an Xbox 360 exclusive, so a fail for you on that. Ninja Gaiden 1/2, Mass Effect, Vesperia (Japan only, but still). Xillia 1/2 skipped the 360 entirely and are PS exclusive. I could go on. The pendulum swings both ways. 3rd party exclusivity is a dying thing, but you still see more of it on the PS3 (certain Live only releases aside). Disgaea, Yakuza, Ni No Kuni, Atelier, almost any high profile HD JRPG these days not made by SE is exclusive to the PS brand. Develope...
Well 3rd party exclusives were effectively killed last gen anyhow. Development costs are just too expensive to not recoup by publishing on multiple platforms. I do expect that we'll still see more Eastern-centric games on Sony and Nintendo's platforms though; especially the handhelds. MS showed their interest in Japanese games and that was only to keep them out of Sony's hands for as long as possible. As a result I think that MS will have a hard time courting niche or JRPG publish...
There hasn't even been a price drop yet either. 3DS only started performing with software AND a 40% price cut.
"We have finally reached a point where technology is cheap enough that adding a sizable touchscreen barely raises the overall cost."
Its like Nintendo fanboys live in a different reality. The controller IS the reason why the system is so expensive and WHY the base hardware is so primitive. I would have preferred that Nintendo just used off the shelf mid-range (not custom or low-end like they did) PC parts and made something to keep up with the PS4/ Nextbox. Their st...
It should have had HDMI out from the get go. The demo models at E3 had it. And I want PROPER remote-play streaming for ALL PS3/ PS4 games - as advertised (then redacted).
Add these two features and they have a win. Hackers have full remote play on the PSP, so there's really no excuse for not having it with significantly more powerful hardware. The logic is that I believe that Sony were scared of cannibalizing home console software sales, but in reality a sale of a game is...
This entire article is worthless without knowing WHO the developer is. It could be, and likely is, a PC-exclusive developer speaking with vested interests. Yet, as is often the case with trash journalism only unknown, unsubstantiated sources are quoted.
Next gen consoles will do fine if they're priced $400 and under. Anything more and they will struggle to gain traction.
Mmkay. First off, both PS3 and 360 were supply constrained; Google can confirm that in like 10 seconds. Think even the Wii was, now that I'm looking back. Still, three million units (shipped, like all the other manufacturers) is decent, but demand appears to have dropped off a cliff since then and software sales are just as bad. Nintendo themselves slashed their profit outlook by a billion dollars and their hardware expectations by 20%. Developer support is faltering too. So its not as if...
More importantly, why advertise a product that - probably - won't be available till the fall? One that's getting its own press event in two weeks?
Actually, having a smaller catalogue to compete against can work to the benefit of a game. Look at AC Vita, sold 600K on like 5 million systems. That's almost a 20% penetration rate.
@Godchild
Those are "shipped". Every one of the three reports "sold to retailers" now. We'll see if those were channel stuffed for Christmas or an expectation of higher demand when next quarter's results roll around. If they over supplied, then they'll miss their target.
First FF I'm not going to buy. 13-2 felt really thin, and playing with time-travel is always such a mess for storytelling. Plot holes you can drive a truck through. Personally, I have no interest in how Lightning's story ends; I'll just read the post-mortem wiki spoilers if I'm interested. I'll check out the XIV relaunch though and probably XV.
