I'm quite certain that "the West" is Vita's strongest market at the moment. AC Vita did like 600K, and hardly any of that was in Japan.
The Vita's relevance will take a sharp upwards turn if Sony deliver on ACTUAL remote-play for all PS4 titles too.
Don't count the Vita out until production stops.
That number seems crazy inflated. They would have to launch in September and sell 2.5 million to 3 million each month until the end of Fiscal Year 2013 (March 2014). I don't think that this information is correct. Maybe its 16 million in the first calendar year. But even that seems like a lot.
This article is about the PS3 outselling its competition IN HARDWARE UNITS once the tally from this past gen is completed. You've covered almost every possible deviation on the subject matter aside from the meat of the article itself. Kudos for your mental contortions.
A few issues of contention with what you have said:
- I wasn't aware that the PS3 had any attach rate or software selling issues. In fact I'm pretty sure its right up there with the 360 at 7...
It is a bit ridiculous to expect someone to question every piece of information published by a major media agency. That sort of proactive investigation is usually reserved for the greatest of tin-foil hat speculators, which is what you are sounding more and more like you are. Your comment is misplaced because you are attacking me, when you should be attacking this truth that you are supposedly after. Take it up with CVG. Get mobilized, start a campaign if you like.
Also, at w...
I'm going off the information listed IN THE ARTICLE. I read the article (step one), I commented on it, appropriately. It is not my job to fact check the information that they post. Take it up with CVG if you believe that information is incorrect. Your argument is misplaced.
I do however agree that China is the next major superpower, particularly in terms of economy and/ or the gaming industry. The writing has been on the wall for that shift for some time.
Well they're allowed to sell it in China now (as of Nov 2012), which will help. Furthermore, Sony has always done well in pan-European countries. The Wii is effectively dead, and MS won't have much success outside of US/ UK with post-720 Xbox 360 sales (and will they still support it with software too, is another question). So yeah, with at least another two price cuts to go - one around the PS4 launch, one a few years later - its easy to see how Sony will finish first for last gen. ...
Everyone stop and take an honest look at how misinformed this article is. The information "leaked" states that the 720 will have an 8000mhz GPU. That sort of tech doesn't exist, unless the 720 is made by aliens. I guess they were just recycling the 800mhz GPU leaked specs, but still.
I think fanboys of either manufacturer camp can safely dismiss this article. Most likely, the next-gen boxes will be relatively on par with a slight edge to the PS4 for the GPU and ...
According to Neogaf translations of the quote being used in the article, its four times the amount of the last two weeks TOTAL. So that would put it toward 80K.
I guess we'll find out on Wednesday which figure is correct.
"Damage control" will be the spin that we have to listen to at the end of April when Nintendo misses their hardware targets and Iwata commits seppoku live on Nintendo direct.
What Sony is doing is aggressive and smart. Shows a shift in philosophy from how they started last gen, that's for sure.
What's funnny is this troll article that was trying to paint an entirely different story:
http://n4g.com/news/1183421...
I told the fool to wait until the official date and more numbers/ samples started trickling out before making assumptions, but some people just don't listen.
Would be nice to see the Vita do 50-70K for the next few...
Here ya go knifefight.
Some more anecdotal evidence. I'll still wait for the official numbers, but apparently, you should have too.
http://n4g.com/news/1184238...
JUST SOLD OUT IN JAPAN SINCE THE PRICE-DROP. This is why your article was lolworthy.
Yeah, because months of hogging the spotlight and of getting into mindshare is a TERRIBLE thing. /s
The articles just get worse and worse.
knifefight,
First and foremost, I PM'd you once, don't flatter yourself and make it sound as if I'm stalking you or sending you multiple messages.
I'm also not the one writing hyperbolic articles based ENTIRELY ON ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE. If you wrote this article, you should steer clear of this sort of journalism in the future. Its uniformed and messy - we have enough of that already. Next week, you better hope that the Vita doesn't go over 30...
Its quite assumptive of you knifefight, to pull a 50% statistic OUT OF THIN AIR. I like how you also assume that even if that statistic WERE true, which it isn't, that every retailer that wasn't part of a chain discounted the Vita prior to yesterday (its the 1st now).
Do you realize how dumb those leaps in logic are? You are LITERALLY pulling numbers out of thin air and presenting them - believing them - as fact.
Again, this speaks to what I was sayi...
Its the same processor. Almost identical. Honesty, think before you type. There's a whole neogaf thread on it.
People disagree with logic around here. Certainly this isn't your first day here :)
PSV is probably getting more support because of the ease of its development environment too.
Are you talking about me Grim? I can't stand the 3DS, charging $200 for tech from 2000 is a ripoff, no matter how you want to sugar coat it.
I'm saying that articles like this are pointless until Media Create puts out their numbers. I'm sure that the Vita will get a big jump, what with PSO2 and then Soul Sacrifice right around the corner.
The problem with N4G is that about 1% of its users actually read articles or comments before spamming disagr...
Not really, the price cut just hit today. But tell yourself whatever you need to I guess.
Nothing is cleared up, the official price drop isn't until the 28th. Without waiting for actual Media Create figures after the 1st week of March, we have NO idea how the new price point is affecting the Vita.
Lots of retailers were discounting the 3DS before its price-cut (after said cut was announced), but it didn't see a bump until AFTER. Just wait for the March figures and we can see if the Vita price cut helped. Anything else is purely speculative and anecdotal.
It will make a nice companion device to the PS4 if remote play delivers. They do need a new model that has built in memory though. Paying extra and considering various storage prices and options only confuses and annoys the consumer (I like that type of personalized ownership, but many people don't).
Sony need to pay to have MH put on the device too, or Soul Sacrifice needs to become a mega, smash hit. Either scenario will keep the Vita going strong overseas.
