...growing up I imagined Nintendo would always be number one, so to see it happen feels good. However, I didn't anticipate 'not caring'. The Wii offers little for me as a hardcore gamer. Hopefully Nintendo's 3DS and recent 'hardcore' games (Other M, New Super Mario Bros., etc) will spark my interest again, but unfortunately regardless of their success they really are just for the kids.
Everybody's doin' it.
In all seriousness, the progress of gaming technology allows the re-imagining of gaming classics that strive (for the most part) to re-create the innovative gameplay mechanics found in the originals. The movie industry, to an extent, can do this too but often turn to old classics as a way to make a quick buck.
As gamers, as long as we demand these remakes re-introduce classics to new crowds in a way that preserves their charm--de...
MW2 for $119.99? Hah, I know it's in NZD but still funny at first glance.
On the contrary. It indirectly shows the flows of publisher investment towards game development. One can argue, based on this list, that Sony is investing in developer talent rather than, say, other forms of gaming revenue like exclusive DLC, marketing events, and product promotions.
While this may only be a side-note in a broader conversation about creative development it's still very relevant to the current state of gaming.
...that five of the listed developers are PS3-exclusive, and only one (Epic) is 360-only.
...as if swearing was a sin in Christianity? Lame.
...during his PC run I really respected Moylneux; even today his games are more-or-less well received.
However his unwavering support for the 360 leaves me thinking he's out of touch with gaming. Gabe Newell spent years bashing the PS3, but since the console has matured Newell, as a true game developer, recognizes the strength behind the system. Hopefully his comment leads him to more open criticism which might influence Microsoft's decision making in the future.
...they're trying to cash in on the Wii's success. Why are we still debating this?
The real question is, what does this mean for the industry? The Move is similar to the Wiimote--and that's a good thing. Now developers can make multiplatform games for both the Wii and PS3, meanwhile developers with new IP's on the Wii can port them to PSN. DS:Extraction's a great example.
Kinect, on the other hand, has completely segregated itself. Not onl...
Hey, is this still up? I forgot to visit Home E3 while the show was on.
Niche is a strong word. Nintendo's software hit's that definition better. The Move will simply allow all developers to invest more heavily into motion software since you can now have PS3/Wii cross-platform games.
The Move will allow for more 'hardcore' gamers to get into motion control, but it's still unknown how effective Move is in games like Killzone 3.
In the end, the Move won't carve a niche, instead it'll simply expand the ...
You're right, piracy is killing PC gaming. The reality is, if developers want to make money, develop for consoles. Sure, that might suck, but the market has spoken. PC's are like the internet, open and dynamic. Make software in this world, and expect words like 'open' to apply. It's like opening an unattended coffee stand for charity; some will pay, some won't--don't expect everyone to.
Only a few developers like Blizzard can develop PC games, that...
Maybe Sony's paying EA, maybe not. Instead, maybe EA is trying to 'future proof' the PS3, move gamers over to this platform.
It's obvious given the 360 tech it simply won't last. Eventually the games developers make on the PS3 will outshine the 360, and it's in EA's interest to move gamers to a platform they are more interested in developing for.
Not to mention if they keep up the EA Sports "charging for online" (used ga...
Co-operate with fellow CoD developers. We want good CoD games as much as you guys do, regardless of the developer. None of this "only WE make the real CoD games", embrace Treyarch, share ideas with Sledgehammer.
I guess what I'm saying is: act more like Sony's developers--share ideas and tech.
Oh and maybe a free DLC or two wouldn't hurt, we all know you guys make a killing off of sales.
My 360 is a repaired RROD, and in my opinion that's the only way to go when buying a 360. I don't even trust the new slims at this point.
What's the NA release date? July?
...gotta get 'em hooked on those achievements early. It worked on the gaming press.
In all seriousness: Touching story. Nintendo used to do this in the 90's too. Nice work.
Amazing how illiterate 360 fanboys are. I can barely make out what they're saying.
While I picked up Halo 3 beta featuring CRACKDOWN day one, I actually came to like it. Playing the demo last night I was totally dissapointed. The graphics were awful, the landscape bare, and the 'zombie' addition felt stale and boring.
Too bad they threw the franchise to an unknown dev.
Definitely interested in this game. Too bad it will fly under everyone's radar.
I personally buy a majority of my games new anyway, so I doubt I would be affected by all of this. However, Cliffy B is only a few steps away from greed:
Cliffy -> Epic Games -> Microsoft -> Ads on pay-to-play Xbox Live = GREEDY
So, I could see Epic pulling an EA someday.
