The ps3 is pretty dam quite regardless WHAT YOU DO. I only hear the noise when Im sitting pc sitting distance, and even so the sound is very quiet.
I have the 60gb version and I heard the 40gb uses less energy and it produces less heat then I guess its even more quiet.
The xbox 360 sounds like my pc but its lacking the power of my pc.
Does pretty bad on upconversion also.

ITs good for consumers in the short term, but consumer electronic companys want to make money esp for new tech..
99 dollars for new tech means low profit margins... hence the reason why toshiba only produced the hardware.
The ps3 is still a pretty dam good blu-ray player hence it will increase sales, hence effecting xbox. I can smell a wave of ppl buying ps3 in the coming years.

Im pretty sure the down conversion to psp will be much crappier, they should put that feature for dvd also .
