The worst case scenario is that blu-ray and hd-dvd coexist.... but I doubt that will happen.
The only place that shows hd-dvd is surviving is in north america.

But the truth comes out when an electronic store generally show blu-ray as the choice. Im not talking about those big retail stores like best buy.... but Ive been to alot smaller electronic stores and they tend to show blu-ray. Why because by standard it is simply better
1) 50gb is better than 30 gb.... and please dont bring up the argument of the 51 gb cuz it is already official you WILL need new...
so what if they have more movies.... better for the consumer.
Im sorry but hd-dvd is gonna have one hell of a ride. There are 3 x more titles on blu-ray coming out this holiday season... while hd-dvd group try to hide this by stating the are releasing just as much.... ( most of them are rerelease of the combo discs)
The failure rate of the xbox will still be there,... and the xbox itself would have costed just as much as the ps3...
It would have hurt ms more than sony.
At least sony has their brand, and their relaible hardware on their back.
btw dvd-9 was introduced about 10 years ago....... and it seems that hd media is picking at the same speed as dvd when it first started... maybe even picking up faster.

I bought approx 15 blu-ray discs in the past month from amazon.com and imported them into canada.
Plus I even imported "the island" from amazonuk.... fyi it IS REGION FREE. Great visual quality, great story, hawt chick.... the only thing that was missing is the lossless sound.... but then again it is wb/dreamworks movie.
hd-dvd is dead in my eyes... then again they are living on life support right now.
Once when sony moves foward with these cheapo drives, other companies will follow.
Last I've seen toshiba are the only ones that make hd-dvd drives for pc's NO one else.
BTW blu-ray is not only used for movies, it will be used for bigger storage. And I know alot of ppl who use their pc as a home theatre pc.
They are dropping the price of the ps3, to accomodate to wars.
1) to add ammo against hd-dvd
2) to add ammo to fight against xbox 360..
Even the price drop for the 60 gb couple months ago had a sig impact on both wars.
Sorry but they are really making money off of me. 8 games and counting and 36 blu-ray discs (most of them sony studio's for some reason).
They are doing just fine, they are actually doing better than the xbox on...
9 percent difference and they are counting the xbox 360 drive yet they discount the ps3.
When you bring media sales into the picture, and the ps3, you will see a different side.
You know whats a fact... your an xbox fanboy that will bash anything that is related to a ps3.
Btw is 4 layers that makes 100 gb's.... let me go over the math 25 gb per layer x 4 = 100 gb woooooooooo. And it seems they are not having trouble with it.
And it has been confirmed hd-dvd needs a hardware upgrade in order to play and read 51 gb discs. Lets say the 100 gb's need a new hard ware upgrade, it does not remove the fact that the 50 gb is better than 30 gb's
You might get my money, but I dont believe in renting games. Just release a demo so we can judge.
If heavenly sword did not release a demo, I would have not bought the game. The game turned out brilliant in the end.
blu-ray was annouced first but toshiba refused to join the band wagon, and decided toe come up with their own format..
Im starting to think hd-dvd is slowly becoming the minidisc of japan. Accepted in japan, but not widely accepted as much as CD tech.

Bare in mind even though not alll ps3 owners are going to buy movies initially..... but it IS one step closer than hd-dvd to having a capable player in the household.
All sony has to do is TRIGGER awareness
if you did not do your research before buying the ps3.
I am very very satisfied with my purchase. As said in my previous posts, its in teh center piece of entertainment when friends come over.
Ill also feel cheated if my ps3 were to break on me within a year.... this is why I will never ever buy an xbox 360... unless they totally redisign the casing and cooling..

1) Its doing just as welll if not better than xbox when it reached their 11th month aniversary
2) It is making a significant impact vs HD-dvd (it is actually pushing out disc sales, and it is recognized as a blu-ray player
3)It is a pretty dam reliable piece of electronic
4) it is the center piece of entertainment when friends come over...... sorry not EVERYONE plays games
5) there is a decent ammount of games in all genres except RT...
Its making xbox fanboys like urself nervous.
Their is many things that pushed me away from dvd.
1) sharpness
2) sound is better if you have an hdmi reciever
3) this is what most ppl forget to omit the color is FLAT on dvd vs the color on blu-ray/hd-dvd it seems more vibrant and three dimentional.
Yes they are luxuries in the end but the prices of these discs are decreasing . I picked up 4 bd's recently for 60 bucks .
I have a few superbit dvds, and it does not even come close...
