OVR has said from the beginning, even before Facebook, there is more applications for VR than just gaming.
The Rift will be for gaming as long as people buy it for gaming.
I don't understand the logic behind "FB is going to stop selling the Rift because it doesn't care about games". Because, somehow, its impossible to have schools or Nasa using the Rift at the same time gamers use it. How does that make sense? Is there some law of the univ...
@RadioActiveTwinky
You just proved the point. Why would Sony waste a large sum of money on an unproven product?
The hype generated by this game puts Hello Games in a position to ask for more than the IP 'might' be worth.
So again, what's the point of risking even tens of millions on this game?
@RadioActiveTwinky
You forgot the rights to the game, which, considering the hype, could be quite a lot of money.
Its good, but needed post launch support. It has a loot system similar to Diablo, but it isn't utilized properly. It really needed a new game plus feature, a shared loot container, and the ability to make different characters.
It would be very risky if it were the only game of its type being released. If it were the only example, like VR, in a way. Meaning, Robert's is doing this solo and everyone is waiting to see if he succeeds before taking the plunge.
With Elite and other space games out there the risk to the genre is minimal.
As far as the risk to "crowd-funding", there might be a little if SC fails, but its going to be hard to fail with feedback coming in at eve...
It certainly seems like they did. I mean the evidence is interesting. Though we've been down this road before, so I'm still waiting for it to be debunked. Steam Beta also got a slight face lift as well. It wasn't much but for Steam GUI its practically an overhaul:P
As far as their secretive nature; its frustrating, but I think the way they're structured as a company has a lot to do with it.
They said "no upgrading", as in you can't throw in different parts. "Tuning", as in performance adjustments should be in there. I'd be very surprised if tuning wasn't there.
Its a sim, in that each car is modeled on a real life counterpart. (how accurate it is, is another matter. As I understand some cars are more accurate than others) So you can't really provide the authentic experience if you can swap out motors, turbos, etc.
Its kind of funny, with all the trolling and false hopes people have, Valve could totally do this without sparking mass excitement.
As I see it, it seems legit. But I am also waiting for a debunk to pop up.
Doesn't Valve have some announcements lined up next year?
What attitude? They delayed the game, they didn't cancel it. How is a delay "awful treatment"?
Disappointing? Sure. But if the WiiU support is what everyone says it is then why would a delay change that? WMD was for the game to be made for the WiiU. That was/is the goal. That goal, at this point, is still going to be met, so whats the problem?
If anything a lower number of sales is more harmful to the people who made the game possible.
But when the game is released, how are you going to be surprised? Right up until that point more and more are going to be playing it and having opinions about it. When it releases we will already know if its worth it or not because there will be no surprises.
If people had been playing various builds of Watch Dogs right up to its release everyone would know what it was going to be. Thus, by the time is was released you would have already know what to expect.

Might want to wait and see if it is well received on the PS4 first before claiming its a system seller. Good buzz now could mean nothing.
Also, while the reaction has been positive, I would say its more "cautiously positive" than anything else, IMO. As of right now, with the info we have on the game, I don't see it selling systems in great numbers.
Niche/indie games like this don't sell like AAAs. They don't move millions in a weekend. I...
id couldn't finish it either so don't feel bad:P
Just a joke...sort of
Not all mods are like that, which is why there quite a few "lore friendly" mods to choose from.
They don't get near as much hype as the TnA stuff, but its quality stuff.
Believe me, if you knew all the mods that were available, you wouldn't want to play vanilla.
Yeah, I'm telling you its a complete game. Not a perfect game, but a complete one. By your definition few, if any, games are "complete".
It's fair to criticize Skyrim for its failings like any other game, but to call it "incomplete" and suggest Bethesda phoned in the development is absurd.
Claiming that Skyrim is "incomplete" is ridiculous. It not the apex of perfection, but Bethesda did put a LOT work into it. Saying otherwise is just foolish.
Yes.
You would likely need a high end rig for the high end ENB stuff, but even toned down ENB looks great. When I say "high-end" I mean max effects, the absolute highest setting with 4k textures everywhere. That'll require a "high-end" (NOT top of the line) rig.
That's just for the lighting though. The rest is completely playable.
"PC" games.
I'm not sure you can ignore the LucasArts library of the 90's. That was their "golden age".
Yea, I didn't even follow the game closely at all and saw a difference. I actually chose not to buy it because it looked like crap in the videos before release.
Lawsuit or not, I would prefer the "ultra shiny" gameplay preview BS to stop.
So why wouldn't Sony put pop up ads on their HMD?
Because it would utterly ruin the entire purpose of VR.
So you've spend an enormous amount of money buying OVR and even more for them to develop the Rift, you then, turn around and make it so no gamers will buy it?
This actually makes sense to people? I'm still trying to find the group that wants VR pop up ads while playing Farmville, but its been tough. Its almost like they don&...
