Sorry, but I disagree. Look at the line more carefully: "As a game which began its journey as a single player only experience, with the sole purpose of recreating famous battles of the past, when did Call of Duty become the complete, multi-faceted game that it is today?"
"As a game which began its journey as a single player only experience", is not referring to a time in games when story came before online. Its in the singular: "as a game", "...
Good article, but has a major mistake in the last line of the first paragraph. "As a game which began its journey as a single player only experience, with the sole purpose of recreating famous battles of the past, when did Call of Duty become the complete, multi-faceted game that it is today?"
Don't know where the author is getting his facts, but COD has always had a MP component and never was SP only. The first two COD games were PC exclusives: COD1 and its exp...
I have a pretty similar outlook, but have slightly different tastes. I have my PC for FPS and RTS games and a PS3 for the sports, racing and action/adventure games (like RDR or UC2). I think it's a great gaming combo to have a PC and a console: I don't miss out on too many games.
Hopefully more developers will follow DICE's path with BF3: don't skimp on the PC version just because consoles can't handle it. Maybe, as more console gamers see the differences, they'll either demand new consoles or possibly switch over to PC gaming which has been having a renaissance of late.
Either way would be good for PC gamers: 1) new consoles wouldn't hold back PC games as much as they are now, or 2) having new PC gamers would increase that market ...
Here, here. Thank you for a great article. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I believe most of the negative comments are coming from the hardcore COD fanboys who don't like seeing that a superior game is on the horizon. True BF fans love DICE and appreciate the effort they are doing to make this game great.
$2000? What have you been smoking? I spent $800 on my rig and I'll be able to play it on high settings. Besides, the game is going to look fine on the consoles. BFBC2 played and looked great on all platforms. I imagine BF3 will be the same.
Very brave, very brave indeed. You will be getting alot of disagrees for hitting the "trifecta" and pissing off all the motion control fanboys with one post. I have to go on record and agree with you, though. Motion control just isn't my thing either.
Smart choice, my friend. Battlefield with 64 players is an incredible experience.
Consoles are going to be 720p. Don't know where you're getting your info. I'll be playing on PC, but the console games should be just fine (much like BFBC2 looked and played great on all platforms).
Seriously? First picture, look at the vehicle tracks and nearby ground textures, then look at it with DX11 off. The ground has depth, giving a much more realistic look. Second picture, look at the differences between the bricks with it on and off. DX11 makes them look much more real and worn. You still see no differences?
We are a rare breed, but I'm with you Spydiggity. I didn't care for the first MW either and mainly because of the introduction of killstreaks. Worst innovation ever! Lets take a genre that already has too much camping and lets add killstreaks to give even more incentive to camp. Brilliant! They are just a cheesy, arcadey game concept. COD has gone downhill ever since.
Cool, can I get two: one, a MW3 tube man and the other, a BF3 tube man. I want to see them flail each other. If you don't have those in stock, you can replace them with Activision's Kotick and EA's Riccitiello.
Glad I'm a PC gamer. Don't have to deal with MS and their pay to play scheme (plus having to deal with ads?) or Sony and them having PSN going down for a month (plus still no cross-game chat, five years later?).
@DarkTower805, I do have a PS3 as a "sidekick" to my PC gaming so I don't miss out on console exclusives. I just don't do much online gaming with it since I prefer my PC for that. If I was a PS3 only gamer, I would have been quite pissed with...
Watch out what you say about Kinect around here. I had a comment tagged as trolling for saying "I don't want to play my games like I'm conducting an orchestra". Some people are really defensive with their Kinects and will mark your opinion as trolling just because they don't like your "unfortunately almost everything has me punching the air like a flailing maniac".
@Bigpappy, wow, you really love your Kinect. First, it's wasting resources as far as the core gamer is concerned. I don't think core gamers care that MS is selling more 360's to casual gamers because of Kinect. Second, I didn't mention Sony because the article was about Kinect and so, therefore, was my comment. If I said anything about Move or Sony, I would have been called a troll for changing the subject (much like you are doing). And last, there is no Kinect focus on the PC...
I think it's more that some core 360 gamers would rather not have MS and developers waste resources "shoehorning" Kinect into games it really doesn't belong in and instead, putting those resources into making the games better or even creating a new IP or two. I'm a PC gamer myself, but, if I was a 360 gamer, I would probably be a little upset with all the Kinect focus when, as a core gamer, it has little appeal to me.
And consoles can't play BF3 with 64 players. So, your point being?
Great article and here's a great quote from the end: "Perhaps it’s time that those that are finding things to complain about step outside the box and get a little perspective, because at the moment we’re talking about what a game can’t do, as opposed to what it can do. And Battlefield 3 can do plenty." Amen, brother.
I think it is everyone's newest advertising slogan: buy such & such game because it is set to push current consoles to their limit. UC3 is pushing the PS3 to it's limits, GoW3 is pushing the 360 to it's limits, Crysis 2 and BF3 are pushing both consoles to their limits. OK, OK, we get it. If this is in fact true, then it's really time to be thinking of launching new consoles in the next year or two. Too many games are pushing the limits....lol. Or, you can game on the PC, ...

Maybe, as more console gamers see the differences, they'll either demand new consoles from MS and Sony or, possibly, switch over to PC gaming. Just like the article/author suggests.
