You could add in the Total War series as well. They are RTS and turn based strategy combined. Oh, and World in Conflict. That game was almost a new genre: RTT (real time tactics).

You know what were good hybrid games (RTS + Action)? The Battlestations games. They had a great combination of strategy while being able to take control of the individual units. Too bad Eidos is no more and the series is probably dead.

The COD troll strikes again. Thank you very much, I'll keep Battlefield and you stick to your arcadey twitch shooter. We don't want people like you on the Battlefield anyways.

Ya, I'm with you and will be waiting for the official invitation.

I don't know if preorders are the best metric to assess potential future sales. Preorders are usually made the hardcore fanboys of a particular game. What if MW3 comes out to only mediocre reviews while BF3 is getting award nominations? Sales could be impacted, you never know. COD will have to peak sometime and go down from there (nothing lasts forever, especially gaming trends). Could very well be this game that does it. Anyways, my prediction is: BF3 will sell better than MW3 on PC and ...

It also has to be divisible into 12 since that is the size of the teams on the consoles. So, like Alpha said, 4 makes the most sense since it's divisible equally into teams of 32 or 12. DICE could even up the console numbers to 32 players (16 to a side) and it would still be divisible by 4.

Hopefully, BF3 won't have locked squads since that was a little "pet peeve" of mine with BFBC2 when all the squads were full except for locked ones. I could start a new s...

Lately, I've been calling it MW1.3 since they have been basically the same game, same engine, same everything the last couple of games.

Oh, and this quote from the article: "But I think it’s more likely to be the fact that people are starting to feel lonely running round in a team of 15 other faceless people, having a whole team shouting stuff over the comms." When was the last COD to have 16 player teams? Player count has only been 18 TOTAL the last few games, ...

Got to agree with you there. Been saying this for a while. Stop forcing it into games where it doesn't belong or work.

Took the guy long enough. But, hey, I'll give him credit for finally seeing the light. They really should be naming these games with a decimal point (MW1.1, MW1.2, MW1.3) since they have all been mostly the same game, same engine, same everything year after year.

@maxqubit, PC gaming is having a renaissance of late and I think BF3 will be one of the games leading the charge. PC gaming is also cheaper than ever: $600-800 will get you a very good setup these days. I spent $800, but I went with two GTX 460's in SLI (got them last year, before the 5xx series came out; still 460's are great cards with very good bang for the buck). I started upgrading mine as soon as I heard about BF3 (with MOH and the beta offer) and now ready to go. Maybe, I'l...

I feel for you and the Kinect. Definitely not my cup of tea and don't look forward to it infecting PC gaming. As far as Halo goes, ya, I guess if look at strictly as a SP affair it was pretty good. Especially, if I remember correctly, the MP wasn't opened up on the PC til Halo 2 came out (because MS didn't want PC players to have MP Halo before Xboxers).

But, with FPS games, I'm primarily into the MP side of things and BF1942 just blew me away back in '02....

And imagine why PC gamers have been disappointed with COD since COD4-MW. Going from 40 to 50 player servers down to the 18 players on last two games (MW2 and BlackOps). I bet MW3 will similarly disappointing for the PC gamer.

My prediction: BF3 will sell more than MW3 on PC and MW3 will sell more than BF3 on consoles. PC gamers respect the extra effort DICE is making with the PC version.

I agree with most of what the author has to argue except I wouldn't call Halo the best shooter of the time, period. Maybe he's talking console shooters, but I became a PC gamer in 2002 and I thought BF1942 was the best FPS at the time. I played Halo on PC and it was OK, but couldn't compare to the 64 player mayhem going on in BF1942. And, when the Desert Combat mod came out, it was like playing an early version of BF2.

I think BF3 has the potential to make some co...

I agree with both your statements: MW3 can't match BF3 and Inside_out is a wrong headed COD fanboy who can't see the light. That's fine with me, BF3 will be a better experience without him.

Who is this one bubble clown? Some Activision sales rep? Geeze, I've seen some COD fanboys, but this troll takes the cake. I, for one, will happy not to see this guy on the Battlefield.

Well, for the record, BF3 will also have better graphics than MW3 in addition to having better gameplay. For me, I don't like the COD killstreaks and think that they are a cheesy, arcadey game mechanic. They also are just an incentive to camp (you know, the hell with the objectives, need to get my K/D ratio up and get a killstreak). Why even have objective modes like Domination when there's very little teamwork? Playing MW2 or Black Ops vs BFBC2 is like night and day.

I'm with you and never been a huge Nintendo fan. I respect and admire them, but, as far as gaming goes, they don't really do anything for me (Mario, Zelda and their other IP's just never appealed to me). I go one generation farther than you, though, and chose the Genesis over the SNES. I wanted more mature games like Road Rash, Desert Strike, and EA Sports games (damn EA, you really should bring back Road Rash). SNES seemed mostly geared towards kids and sidescrolling, platform ga...

Black Ops has dedicated servers and still only has 18 players on PC....pathetic. COD has steadily gone downhill and they expect me to continue buying their games. No thanks. This Bowling guy is quite a clown. I remember last time him telling us how IWnet was supposed to be this great new addition. Right.

@plbelanger, the reason you probably have a hard time finding a match of MW2 on PC is because it sucks on PC. IWnet is a joke since matchmaking is inferior to dedicated serve...
