Wondering where the time went

I cannot understand why some people are so intent to place the lion's share of the blame at Sony's feet, instead of blaming those who actually committed the crime.

There's a difference between negligence and responsibility. Sony was negligent for not protecting all its customers' data as strongly as it should have, but the hackers are the ones responsible for the crime. Sony did not leak the data intentionally. The company was the victim of a concerted, coor...

Exactly. It all comes down to the exclusive games available on the platform. I don't own a 360 because there are only a few exclusives for it that appeal to me. It's a great console that provides entertainment to its users, but it's not for me.

I don't get why people write articles like this. It reeks of 'unwarranted self-importance.' lol

@JerryKurl

Just pointing out the some 360 fanboys are guilty of the same type of hypocrisy, that's all. A balanced perspective is always advantageous.

I'm not upset about the situation at all, since I don't game online with consoles and I have never used a CC to purchase off PSN. Thus, I see no reason to act as if it's the end of the world, or the end of Sony.

It's hilarious, how console warriors change their tune. I've had a chuckle at the hardcore 360 fans who preached the importance of exclusive games a few years ago, when the PS3 had a fraction of the exclusives the 360 had, but now that the situation is reversed, some of them now claim that exclusives don't matter.

It's funny how that goes.

I have a PS3, and all the PSN downtime does is delay my purchase of 'Threads of Fate.' I don't use my PS3 for online gaming. So there you go...

...generalizations, ftl!

Defensive, much? Here's the difference: XBL fees are permanent. PSN downtime is temporary.

Thanks for the chuckle, though.

Agreed. Considering the terrible state of the global economy for the past few years, the fact that the videogame industry has weathered it well is a testament to the companies involved.

Censorship? Really? Hardly. Censorship would result from a government policy forbidding the release of the information. This has nothing to do with government strong-arming.

NPD is a business. It's not an artist, a journalist, etc. It sells its data to its customers. That's how it makes its money. If people are able to get its data for free, why would they pay for it? Thus, public distribution of its data threatens its business model. NPD has every right to protect ...

'One man's meat is another man's poison,' as they say. People should buy the games that appeal to them, regardless of console. That's why I don't own a 360. Nothing against it, but its exclusive titles don't interest me.

Standing up for the little guy? That's hilarious. There's a difference between hardware modification and software modification. When you buy software, movies, or music CDs, you don't own the material on them. You merely own the physical media. Your purchase gives you a license to use them, nothing more. You can't legally modify the contents and distribute the contents to others.

Modifying and distributing copyrighted software is illegal.

It would be great if people understood the difference between hardware and software.

I can legally put decals on my PS3. Or paint it a different color, because the *hardware* is mine. I cannot, however, modify the PS3s software. At point of purchase, I acquired a license permitting me to use the software in specified ways.

By your logic, people should be able to distribute software they bought without fear of reprisal, since you bought it. See the flaw in...

Perhaps it's the same reason why MS fans post in threads dealing with the PS3. Because they can, and they want to express their opinions.

Actually, cutting edge scientific research has shown that sexual orientation may have its roots in biophysical causes (genetic predispositions, serotonin levels, etc.) You may want to look into current studies.

Considering that homosexual behaviour exists across many species, does that mean homosexual dolphins choose to be gay?

I love how some people on N4G hold Geohot and his fellow hackers up as some kind of modern day 'Robin Hood,' stealing proprietary information from the "big, evil corporations" and doing 'heroic' deeds for the little guy.

It's hilarious how some people condone criminal behaviour in an effort to 'stick it to the man.'

Dictatorship? That's an extreme, useless description. Sony isn't oppressing anyone's liberties, nor is it dictating how people live their lives under penalty of imprisonment or death.

It's just business. Nothing more.

Both sides have rabid defenders, and both sets of rabid defenders post in articles that don't concern their chosen system. One side is no better, or worse, than the other.

Great post. You've articulated how I feel about the tendency some people have to be very nostalgic when it comes to older games.

I really enjoy how RPGs have evolved over the decades, and I look forward to the future.

Neither Sony nor LG are bullies or victims. This isn't some kind of "payback" or "karma." It's just a matter of corporations looking after their business interests. If there's a conflict between the companies, they'll work it out either through an out-of-court settlement or a trial.
