Wondering where the time went
CRank: 5Score: 53410

Don't bother trying to explain the realities of business. Some people are so wrapped up in the 'console warrior' mentality that they need to have 'enemies' to 'battle' in order to help their side.

Some fans are determined to hate certain companies no matter what. There has to be a 'bad guy' in their minds.

I can't wait to play this, Atlus. Announce a Western release date, and you shall have my money.

My launch PS2 still works, too. I never use the b/c in my launch PS3, and if my PS2 breaks, I'll replace the PS2 rather than use the b/c.

I don't see why some people get so bent out of shape over this. The people who wanted the b/c feature had the chance to get it with the earlier PS3 SKUs. It's not as if Sony fans never had the option to get a backwards-compatible PS3 if they wanted one.

Shipped means sold to retailers though. Retailers don't order in stock that won't sell and will just gather dust. Shelf space is too valuable. So either way, MS has sold those Kinect units.

'Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain' is the remake I would most like to see. I enjoy the 'Soul Reaver' games of the series but prefer Kain to Raziel. ;D

It's interesting, how console hardware issues are so different from person to person. I have a PSX, bought in 1997, a launch model PS2, and a launch model PS3 and have never had hardware issues with either console. Out of all the Nintendo consoles I've ever owned, the only problem I've ever had was with a dead pixel on my GBA SP.

The hardware reliability issue is one of those odd things about gaming. Some problems are widespread, yet some owners never get them. ...

That's one of the reasons I don't like the terms 'hardcore' and 'casual.' What metric do you use to measure? Is it money spent on games and gaming peripherals? Is it years spent gaming? Is it the types of games played? The goalposts move, depending on who you ask.

For example, for me, a 'hardcore' gamer is the type of person who likes to complete RPGs to 100%, who masters all the maps in an FPS game, who finds every secret area and treasure i...

Chuckles@Chadness: That was great. :-D

Back on topic, I agree with the author. Games that are released today are much different experiences from what they were decades ago. When I bought "Secret of Evermore" for the SNES when it released, I paid over $100 for the cartridge. (Canadian retail prices and the sales tax in my province were killer back then). Gaming was nowhere near as popular, and it certainly wasn't a hobby you publicly admitted to enjoying. It wa...

Except that LBP2 was never hyped to be a 'second coming' of gaming - like 'GT 5' and 'Alan Wake' were.

Hype is the problem, which is why gamers should wait until the final product is released before shooting off their mouths and looking like fools if the retail version doesn't meet their 'expectations.'

While I agree that it's a good thing that Bungie kept the formula that made the 'Halo' series famous, I find it hilarious how some series are downmarked for keeping the same formula from installment to installment, while others, like 'Halo' aren't criticized for doing the same.

Double standards are pretty stupid.

I suppose you have to try and spin the news against the PS3, considering that the 360 has been crushed by Wii.

Nintendo has truly dominated this gen of gaming. That's especially impressive considering the lacklustre sales of Gamecube.

Congrats to Nintendo!

Why post in a thread about it, then?

My brother purchased one for his kids for Christmas, and my nephew really enjoys it. In the end, Kinect is no different than any other gaming device. If you think you'll enjoy it, or your family will enjoy it, then it's a buy. If it doesn't appeal to you, or you can't use it, then it's a pass.

The decision rests with the individual, not with advice (one way or the other).

I don't understand your joy at Internet gloating. What do you get out of it?

So does that mean that if MS pulled out of the gaming biz, you'd gnash your teeth and weep hot, salty tears?

Why get so emotional over business? lmao

@Seferoth75: So, the fanboys of a certain console who 'gloat' over estimates, rather than waiting for official financial statements?

And the problem with having the option is what, exactly?

In "Dragon Age," the male/male encounter with Zeveran has to be sought out. It's not automatic, so it's not as if anyone is forced to play the scene if they don't want to. I have no problem with lesbian options in games. They don't interest me, and I wouldn't seek out those subplots, but I wouldn't boycott a game over it. I'm very comfortable with my heterosexuality; homosexuality...

@FragMnTagM: I have Cerebral Palsy, actually. Along with a degenerative joint condition. Whilst I have mobility and balance impairments, I also hold a Bachelor's Degree, several post-secondary diplomas, and numerous academic awards. In other words, I'm far from a vegetable.

Protip: Cerebral Palsy is what's called an 'umbrella diagnosis.' Some people with CP can't function independently. Others of us manage quite well on our own, and still others are ...

You do understand that both options, the B/C and the Other OS, were part of the launch PS3 models, right? Thus, Sony didn't 'lie' about them. Those features were there at launch. I have a launch model with the backwards compatibility, though I never use it. Sony removed the Backwards Compatibility from later SKU's in an effort to bring costs down. You know, since people bitched about how expensive the PS3 was, not considering the value of the tech included. Funny thing, that, ...

Can't say I'm surprised. I knew Kinect would have issues with disabled gamers from the beginning, which is why I have no interest in the tech. As a gamer who's been disabled since birth, I've spent decades gaming with standard controllers.

To play Devil's Advocate here, I don't understand why she didn't realize that a tech which is focused on full body standing recognition would have problems with wheelchair-bound users. She didn't research K...
