I hope this doesn't turn into another 'shipped v. sold' thread.
Congratulations, Microsoft! Now, develop Kinect tech into something I can use, and I'll purchase a 360. :D
I opted for PS3 at launch, then bought a Wii a couple of years later. For my gaming preferences and schedule, those two are the perfect choices. It's important to make the best, most informed, purchase decisions possible - especially with the economy as it is now.
Well said. Bubbles to you. :)
I buy, not rent. It requires more time and effort to research the titles I want, but I've seldom been disappointed by my purchases.
It certainly helped me develop hand-eye co-ordination and muscular dexterity in my hands, things that were affected by my Cerebral Palsy when I was a child. Not to mention the positive effects it can have on the development of certain cognitive skills, like problem-solving.
I really enjoyed 'Hotel Dusk.' It made me nostalgic for the point-and-click PC adventure games of the 90's.
I don't own a 360, and my PC isn't built for gaming, so I'll be buying ME2 on PS3.
By the same token, are you willing to believe Sony's statements with respect to their sales, or will you only accept VGCHartz estimates?
If Kinect represents the future of gaming, then I'll stay with the present. Some of us aren't able to use Kinect, after all.
But the PS3 is selling, and so is the Move. This isn't the start of the generation, where it was vital for the consoles to get an established install base in order to justify dev support.
We're at the point in the gen where all 3 consoles have install bases large enough to justify 3rd party support; Sony and Nintendo also have enough first-party studios to supply their customers with a steady stream of exclusive titles throughout the fiscal year.
I didn't see a specific 'shot at Sony' in the interview, beyond Mr. Dennis making a comment with respect to Sony's business being focused on "throwing in as much as they can," which I don't see as a jab at all. It's true that Sony does offer a very broad range of content and services. That's why I prefer the PS3 to the 360 - because it offers me content and services that are better suited to my needs.
Kinect isn't something that'...
In Canada, PSN purchases are taxed. And my d/l speeds are fine.
Exactly. Some gamers are mature, but playing a certain type of game or owning a particular console doesn't make a person mature or immature.
Videogaming is a hobby, just a form of entertainment. Mature gamers are the ones who understand this, who recognize the contributions all 3 console manufacturers make to the industry as a whole and don't put down other people for having different gaming preferences.
Why does Sony need to release updated figures? To fire the next so-called 'salvo' in the pathetic 'console war?'
The shareholders will get the data in the next corporate report, and it's the shareholders who should be most interested in Sony's earnings and sales ratios.
Shhh...don't bring up the Wii and its mammoth success. That's a reality check some people can't handle. ;D
@Seferoth75 - Yes, new items do 'bomb' all the time, but if you believe retailers order millions of units in advance of anticipated demand, you're deluding yourself - or you don't know how valuable retail shelf space is.
Retailers cannot afford to have product on the shelves they cannot sell. That space could be occupied by something they *could* sell, making them money. Thus, retailers order in response to consumer demand. No retailer is going to waste thei...
Unfortunately, the people who want to fight over consoles will do so, regardless of the facts. They change their arguments to prop up their side and make the 'enemy' look 'bad.'
Why can't the 'console warriors' accept that all 3 companies can be successful at the same time? Kinect has sold very well. Move is successful as well. It's not an either/or situation.
My nephew received a Kinect for Christmas, and he really enjoys...
And Wii is first. Deal with it.
It's great to read a reasonable comment regarding the whole sold v. shipped foolishness. The bottom line: Orders by stores are sales for the manufacturer and stores do not order more than consumer demand dictates.
Here's a bubble vote.
It will be interesting to see what happens to his tenure, if Sony does pursue legal action against him.
