I don't mean to sound arrogant saying this, but finally, some signs of Insomniac coming to their senses.

I seriously thought R&C was beginning to peter out with A4O and FFA. I know it's harsh to say, but those games just seemed so pointless to me. Then they joined EA, released Fuse, and announced Sunset Overdrive as an X1 exclusive (the game looks dreadful too), and I just figured they'd lost all integrity.

This however is good news. I'm a...

Gonna buy Just Cause 3 instead of both.

Heck yes!!! I hope it's not a dubstep riddled, pixar turd though. Come on Insomniac! It's time to win back your reputation!

I also wonder if it's some sort of crossover... Imagine if it was a R&C / J&D / Spyro / Crash crossover extravaganza...

Gamers are just too conservative and a little bit spoilt. I like that XIII took such a huge risk. It shows that SE weren't too concerned with just turning a profit by putting out exactly what the masses wanted. They tried to push the envelope, or shake things up a bit. They were fighting creative stagnation.

I know the game was supposed to have been a bit of an admin and communications nightmare, and sure, maybe Wada was a bit careless in greenlighting it, but it's st...

Aarrgh I wish I could communicate my argument to you a bit better, you're sort of not acknowledging it properly... I feel like if you did, you wouldn't be as against me. First of all, look beyond this example. Videogames aren't the only things operative in the manner I've described. You have to take what I've said and position it alongside ALL the other sources of such notions in popular culture. This is how it acquires it's power. No matter how you try to avoid it, th...

Well first of all I'm not just pinning this on videogames. It's anything.

Also, I don't think the decrease of youth violence somehow corresponds to the increase of graphical fidelity. If anything, it corresponds to various social factors, education, employment etc. Just because the increase in videogame graphical quality hasn't produced more violence in youths (though you can't exclude adults) doesn't mean that it can't and isn't having an effe...

If the length of the game directly reflects a lack of effort on the part of the developers (i.e. a CoD campaign) then yes, yes it does determine quality.

There are short games that are amazing - El Shaddai (not as short as the rest here, but short nonetheless), Journey, Dear Esther, Gravity Bone and Thirty Flights of Loving, Ico.

If a game's going to be short, it has to have a good reason for it. That reason shouldn't be extorting and insulting player...

999 and this are like two of my favourite games ever. They're maybe not as smart as they think they are, but they're still absolutely gripping, and even though the narrative is so dense and convoluted, you really care about the characters - it's not just childish narrative and concept masturbation like Inception.

Seriously, too much good things to say about this game and it's prequel (both of which have things the other doesn't and are therefore impossible...

The closer graphics get to fidelity with reality, the more responsible we have to be. Their "reality" doesn't matter. All forms of media communicate notions of how things aught to be or how the author / writer sees the world - their ingrained assumptions and preconceptions, and violence isn't exempt from this.

If we churn out games that realistically and entertainingly portray violence, we run the risk of fostering toxic ideas about violence in culture. Viol...

Why can't we have a giant, impressive world like this that doesn't feature violence and power fantasies? That's all I'm asking. If you had an intellect you'd be asking that question too, the question implied by my comment.

The trailer was awesome until the characters dissonantly started coldly killing enemies. All the other stuff looked amazing. Just a giant sandbox with so many things to do in it. Violence isn't necessary at all.

I'd totally prefer this if you didn't have to kill people. Mass murdering a bunch of dehumanized, faceless npcs is a trend that needs to go in games. With it's world, this game could easily build a game around it that doesn't feature violence, at least not to the insane degree it currently does.

I see. Still though, it does take place 2 years after X-2, so there's definitely room for some interesting developments in there. Also, maybe they're not telling us everything. For all we know they might sneak a short FMV in at the end.

I wonder if some of the unused-looking areas in this video will make it into the potential sequel or prequel suggested by the announced extra 30 minute drama at the end of X | X-2 HD?

I'm so excited about that. I'd love to return to Spira for a new game someday.

"What I learned from Valve is that I don't think it works. Give people complete latitude with no checks and balances it is human nature that they will minimise the work that they do and increase the control that they have."

Absolute nonsense. It's a cultural thing. If people didn't have certain cultural ideas ingrained in them they wouldn't behave this way.

Superb article. People aught to read this. Games are stupid, but so many gamers, because of how the industy presents itself, think they're being given intellectual nourishment when they play games like Bioshock. The reality is that games' treatment of serious themes is invariably shallow, and all you're defending when you defend the intellectualism of a game like Bioshock Infinite, is the condescending and cynical marketing practices of the game industry. If you want intellectual ...

I'm finally playing Deadly Premonition for the first time since it came out on the ps3, and while the framerate issue is noticeable, I'm still enjoying the game a hell of a lot.

There's something so nostalgic and idiosyncratic about it. It may not have incredible visuals and a ridiculously high budget, but it's still gripping me in a way most games have failed to do this gen, and I totally warmed to the visuals like immediately. Some people think the gameplay ...
