Art is inescapably political.
Also, why shouldn't we be raising awareness of and promoting the socio-cultural integration of those in the lgbt community?
Forgive my language, but thank fuck for that. It really is becoming a bit of a triple-A cash-cow.
Do we really have to label satirical articles "[satire]" now? That kind of takes away from it a bit. I think it'd be better for people to just use their brains. That or wait for someone in the comments section to make it known that it's satire.
I believe we're on the EXACT same page with regards to this issue haha.
And no problem about the link. I found your blog very strongly argued and it basically gave better articulation to some of my own thoughts I'd been having. If people don't quite get my line of argument at that particular point (my prose can be a little bit inaccessible out of habit, but I'm working on it hehe), I'm sure they would if they read yours. It has such clarity. Keep up the go...
Don't worry, I can tell you read it, and thanks for the kind words and insightful additions to the discussion. It is a question I often ponder- why do people WANT these violent games? I think the industry is partly to blame; they advertised relentlessly, got gamers into the idea, and found themselves a nice little corner in the market. But I think it's a two-way street. I think there probably IS something about violent games that appeals to the less critical among us. The gaming commu...
(N.B. To save a lot of embarrassment I'd strongly, strongly encourage you to read the blog before commenting. Trust me, it'll be very obvious if you haven't. It'd be nice if the comments section could be populated by civil discussion, not knee-jerk reactionaries. If something bothers you about it halfway through, pleeease please just continue reading until the end, I implore you.)
Thus the market for videogames is inundated with stupid and violent games, which nevertheless are highly advanced in the graphical and technological departments, and become impactful upon perceptions and upon reality in that way. On the surface they appear impressive and realistic, while underneath they are severely underdeveloped. (There's probably a good analogy for that somewhere.) Games have a reached a point where they need a reality check, and the mindless escapism that characterise...
This all comes back to the state of the games industry. As the user Zerocrossing in this blog( http://n4g.com/user/blogpos... pointed out a few weeks back, the triple-A drive that predominates these days directly contributes to the broadness and shallowness of game appeal. With so much money being pumped into the games, it's too much of a risk to experiment in new territory, for there's no guarantee that s...
The game is what it is. It's risky and creative in this stagnant triple-A environment, which is something to be admired.
Why do graphics matter? I say this again and again, but the SNES proved that graphics don't have to be "good" in the way we understand them (in the way we've been made believe by the games industry) for the game to be memorable, unique, creative, and good.
The graphics as far as I'm concerned, have a videogame nost...
There's nothing AWFUL about this game. Ugh.
Stupid brainwashed games industry / community.
I'm looking forward to this game, and I'm not really a big fan of Skyrim, but they've got to be kidding.
To be brutally honest, that doesn't look very good, but we shouldn't be judging it on what is probably involuntarily leaked alpha footage of very specific parts of the game. Not to mention the footage is really short.
Hmmm, Level-5 rpgs... I recommend you play some of the ones I've mentioned that aren't Level-5 rpgs if you haven't already.
Level-5 rpgs have the appearance of all being unique games, but they're actually all quite similar. Their stories are generally spread really thin, and are pretty basic. They all make use of similar menus and all basically have the same means of doing "Alchemy". Generally where they shine is in the world department, as well as v...
50+ hour story - Yeah, some games can really string out the story a bit. Ni No Kuni for example has a story you could sum up in like a sentence, but there's so much time spent grinding and whatnot. Nevertheless, that gives you time to immerse yourself in the game's world. The world's of JRPGs are among the richest, and even so, there are many jrgs with dense and convoluted stories.
Voiceless protagonist - Protagonists are voiceless to reflect you the player. Perso...
I would've preferred a more supernatural, otherworldly basis for the horror in this game, but it's pretty interesting nevertheless.
I liked Unbounded, it was challenging and fun, even if the soundtrack sucked and the sfx lacked punch. It was also a little bit sparse in terms of things to do, but I suppose the track editor was supposed to make up for that.
This however, is just Unbounded again. Only fully online, with maybe more cars (or just paint jobs). Those tracks are all from Unbounded. Nah, it's free and all, but I'm not arsed.
Both, but only very slightly.
Do people not realise that Hamauzu composed like almost a third of X's soundtrack?
He'll likely be re-arranging his own stuff.
Also, Masashi Hamauzu is probably among the best videogame
composers of all time, so I wouldn't be too worried. I think he knows what made his tracks special.
Great counter-arguments guys! Although, a strange pattern I notice with folks like you is that you exhibit neither evidence of having read the comment, nor evidence of having even tried to understand it. Notice how I actually read and engaged with your piece.
Is everything suitable to be trivialised for you? Particularly when it isn't amenable to immediate understanding? It seems you too easily fall back on empty pejoratives and buzzwords to defend yourselves. How you'...
Actually, sexual orientation DOES play a big role in most games. It's actually the reason so many heterosexual characters are protagonists, as are their supporting cast.
Why NOT make them gay, lesbian or transgender? You have to ask that question. Why do heterosexual characters seem to occupy this space of total representation? Why do heterosexual characters seem to be the spokespeople for sexuality in general in games?
Homosexuality and transexuality are...
