Just because it's an online game doesn't mean you can't have unlockable characters. The characters you can unlock needn't be stronger or unbalanced or something, the reward is in getting new characters to master and to enjoy. For this reason they shouldn't unveil the entire roster, although I fear they pretty much have already.
I suppose other players might spoil them for you, but maybe they could matchmake based on characters people have or something, or...
First one was a yawnfest and I really didn't like it's visual style and design. This really seems like more of the same.

Like maybe it's been successful so far, but they can't keep making the same game over and over again. They're gradually accumulating fans of previous games, and because of this they're gonna get more and more complaints.

Half Life 3 has to be the flagship title for Source 2. Anything else would be unacceptable.
