Excellent article, as always, and makes some very valid points about older games being offered for free after a certain period.
It would certainly boost my thoughts around a publisher and developer if they did such things, and would most likely have a positive effect on me supporting them with newer games that required payment.
I have a little un-official mod for the controller that I'll be un-officially sharing soon that will not only help with driving games like Forza 3, but also FPS's as it gives you much more distance in the axis range, great for better mobility.
But I never said that word that starts with "M" - okay.
Ubi have certainly hit on a great medium for getting both their games and films out there.
By taking them to the general public, they make the game much more user friendly insofar as they become well known through the general media, rather than just the gaming media.
I believe they may well be doing something similar with other games franchise that would lend themselves to this, include the Avatar and Splinter Cell . . which only makes perfect sense.
It will be interesting to see what happens as the story unfold, and by the looks of it, it will be around the 1 hour mark all up film wise. Which is great really.
I think Ubi and their new venture Hybrid are doing an excellent job with this, and it opens up the game to a broader audience that might not otherwise see it.
I believe it will be featured on A Current Affair very shortly alongside the actual game.
There's a few XBLA titles I like, but this ones not one of them unfortunately.
Just not into little purple monsters gobbling up things. But hey, different strokes for different folks. But great review nevertheless.
New-generation gamers are an exceptionally picky group. They want, no, demand new IP's from developers. They demand new innovation into older existing IP's, they demand more content . .
Yet when given it, they leave it like a dying dog - why?
Because it's not like the other games they made before and they (new-gen-gamers) don't or won't spend the time, effort and energy required to learn new skill-sets required for new IP's
So developers then loose BIG T...
Damn good idea, I did hear that they work really well from other sources yesterday while at an event, and that there's 2-3 types of vision available . . . Looking forward to getting mine in about a week . .
I'm not one that 'need's to have everything on release day, I don't mind waiting . . some just can not bear it hehehe.
Sadly there are always those who will exploit the situation, but on the other hand, some who live in areas where they can not get these things rely on places like EBay to nab their items, and they know they will pay more for them when it's on an auction.
Different strokes for different folks I suppose.
Youcould try our sponsors, they are in the UK, biut ship worldwide for free now, and it works out cheaper as they give a solid discount for our readers. I'm getting one of their MW2 360 bundles, which works out cheaper than they are on sale here in Australia.
I prefer goosd that have something different in them, and these certainly do. The effort that developers are now putting into these various editions is paying off big time for them.
As it's a new way of securin...
God I love idiot children, they are so much fun - NOT! As I'm sure no responsible adult would act like 80% of the ppl in here do, well, I'd certainly hope not.
Not everyone wants to take the game (any game) on a 'casual' basis, many want to take it very seriously. Forza 2 had over 2 mil constant users online right up until Forza 3 was released.
Many still play it doing caparison times ob the same tracks with the same cars etc to see the difference.
The 'casual' gamer simply wants to jump in and play without any consiquenses. The hardcore gamer of the series wants to work through every facet of the game. As an example, I've ...
Personally I don't mind 'most' of the game-movie experiences.
I suppose it's because I don't go into them expecting to get a game, or have the game played out in exactly the same way the game is laid out. I know that it is impossible to do that, and that a sreenwriter and director have to approach it from a completely different angle.
ALl the negative comments about Max Payne, Hitmnan, DOOM, Resident Evils series put me off watching them for ages, for fear of them be...
MS are cracking down even more now with modded xbox's, and have begun banning any box they find, a huge number done recently, and they will be continuing the campaign, locking all boxes out, and in some cases ppl might find the unit unusable??
It even made the news here in Australia 2 days ago, so that part of it certainly is not a rumour.
I personally like these sorts of reviews, as it pits two (or more) individuals thoughts together, and come up with areas of understanding they may well have missed or even misintrupted in the story etc.
Makes much more sense to me that one persons view that may well be blinked or biased to a particular genre or style of gameplay.
If you notice, many publishers have now moved their 'official launch parties/gigs' etc forward by a week or so, so that if their advertizing and promotions can not be skuttled by early releases by stores.
Before it was common to have them close to the actual street date,, and many invest heavily in getting development teams, PR ppl, huge marketing, hiring of venues, logistics etc to promote the release, and have it skuttled by some store releasing early and effectively killing th...
ahh good, Seems that B W were going to release the game today (our thursday) - but have had severe discussions with "the powers to be" and have been told point blank that if they do, they face huge fines and it will not be tollerated ..
I'm glad someones got the gonnads to stand up to major retailers. I hate broken release dates with a passion. Unless you've been in small retail, you just do not know the impact these things have on small stores. ANd by small, I mean eve...
Many gamers forget that when this happens, the smaller retailers, who often try and do much better deals and supply better service than the likes of K-Mart and Big W and Harvey Norman etc, suffer a great deal.
They loose pre-orders, are left with stock they can not sell, as ppl have dumped their pre-orders and rushed to a local BW to nab a copy early . .
And they wonder WHY small retailers have larger price tags . .If you were running a business and saw this, you'd ...
And you get to put nice tats on them to . . . well . . . not really, but they do know how to attract a persons attention to a section of the game that probably would never gain any attention - right?!
Yes, but this one's just plain 'fun' . . and yet quite addictive once you get going with it.
Persoanlly I found it better than Dirt 1, and much more responsive that Dirt 1.
The environment was much more interactive as well, and if you love in-car view like I do, then this is the 'ants-pants' as they say.
Nothing like flying through a mud puddle behind someone doing about 200ks, the screen gets covered completely in mud, and it takes at least 2 swipes of ...
If you want ppl to embrace a medium, you need to make it worth their while to do so, and forcing them to pay continually for content is NOT the way to go about it, no matter what the platform.
