Not a bad analysis, even if it isn't what I was hoping to hear.
The 3D being touchy isn't really a concern for me, as I don't see myself using it too much. I'm buying the 3DS because of the huge amount of first party support that Nintendo always showers their handhelds with. You buy a system for it's games at the end of the day. The 3D stuff was designed to push undecided's on Nintendo's side of the fence. I'm not one of those, however. I'...
Crap, I saw that logo and thought it was something related to the next Retro Game Challange game. They really need to make/locallize another one.
Good to hear. I personally don't care for the Metal Gear games, but I realize that losing him would cause a ton of grief among gamers and developers. So it's good to hear from that since.
I would say that the only person more renowned in the industry right now is Shigeru Miyamoto.
I remember reading somewhere that the horse armor DLC was some kind of joke that Bethesda made. They never meant for people to take it seriously is what the article basically said.
Hell, I remember one sale they had where they halved the prices of all DLC, but doubled the horse armor price lol.
Great numbers. It's good to see that the core pokemon games maintain their following.
As far as the little amount of changes, that's all pokemon needs. The core formula is already addicting as hell. Changing stuff just to change it is a bad move.
Are you reffering to Nintendo at the end of your first paragraph? Because if you are, you seem to be forgetting that Nintendo has carried their own platforms via first party games since the N64. Every generation Nintendo has at least one game that catches lightning in a bottle and dilevers a home run.
Me too. Bulbasaur was my favorite gen I starter. I always have a Venasaur on my team whenever possible, even to this day.
Great article. I'll always play the pokemon RPG's. I love turn based RPG's, and pokemon can hang with the best of the genre even on a bad day. The gameplay is addicting and the 4 move limitations prevent you from overpowering your team. No pokemon team is unbeatable, and unthinkable upsets do happen because of this. Anything can happen in pokemon, and I personally love it.
I thought the DS had some incredible games despite it's inferior hardware. It goes to show that great games CAN exist without photorealistic graphics.
@Dark King and Baka: It's fine if you own the game. Maybe I should have been more clear on that.
That part of my post was sort of taking a jab at recent events. A vast majority want to cut Geohot's balls off for hacking the PS3, but that same group of people mock Nintendo and promise to R4 their games. See the inconsistancy here? I know I may be generalizing, and I apologize, but this happens way too often IMO.
So my question would be, what makes one...
Agree 100%. Plus it has one of the most epic pieces of music ever composed: Blue's champion theme. It's such an "Oh SH**!!" moment when you hear that music for the first time. You know it's going to be one hell of a battle instantly.
http://www.youtube.com/watc... there it is.
Great article.
As for me, I'm sure I'm not alone when I say pokemon introduced me to RPG's. I may not have known it at the time, but I started looking for games that "Played like Pokemon" and that led me straight to turn based RPG's.
I owe Nintendo and Gamefreak SO much for that because turn based RPG's are far and away my favorite genre.
For me the cut off point is 16 bit consoles, and GBC down in terms of portables. I DO use GBA roms, and I feel a little bad, but I go out and buy the ones that I really like.
But I think emulators like DSemue and Dolphin are wrong, as well as the whole R4 thing. Basically anything from the ps2/xbox gen and up is unquestionably wrong. I do think there's gray area in emulating old games though.
I can't wait for this game because of one simple reason.
People have been saying things like this game is unoriginal etc, but they're forgetting one major risk nintendo is taking. For the first time ever, Nintendo is blocking out ALL ties to previous games until postgame. That means everybody from kids to adults are going into this game with minimal knowledge of the pokemon. Everybody is on the same page for the first time since red/blue. I personally LOVE that fact...
Lol, that reminds me of a rather funny memory I have with JRPG's. I was playing one of the .hack games, and I was just starting out. I only had about 100 HP. I was wondering the map, and I obviously went somewhere I wasn't supposed to at the time. My first encounter was this big ass dragon thing. I attacked him and it did no damage. That's when I thought something wasn't right. Sure enough, when it was its turn to attack it gave me 1300 damage, pretty much obliterating me. <...
It's still my favorite genre. Turn based RPG's are like crack to me lol. about 40% of my DS collection is JRPG's.
Great score. It's amazing to me that after 5 generations, Pokemon is still a name associated with quality. If you're buying a main pokemon game, you're getting a quality product.
I'm glad they didn't mess with the gameplay too much. It's still addicting as is anyway.
I always love when a company embraces user created content on consoles, and this is no exception. we need to see more of it.
I like that they're trying new things in the gameplay. This should debunk the claim that Zelda games never change. Weather you approve of it or not, you can't say this is copy/paste Zelda this time.
I've said in many articles here that I'm getting both, and I am. 3DS will still be my "lead" handheld, but the NGP looks awesome too.
