Probably because you cannot prove how they cracked.
You could of stood on them. Only saying. I have no reason to not believe you, but showing damage only proves they are damaged - not how they got damaged.

If this article is correct and the sensor costs that much then what price for Kinnect 2 in shops if they shipped the console without the camera? $200 for Kinnect 2?
Maybe that is why they are shipping them with the console. No one would pay that much for the camera otherwise. This almost means they cannot ship without the Kinnect 2. Wow!
Does it also mean they are using cheaper parts for the console? It implies the cons...
Back tracking in public, after already revealing the system and its goals and before its even released? And changing every other day to match what your competitor has shown 6 months earlier?
It makes MS look dumb and clueless.
The changes are all great but not done for the love of gamers. Do not be so easily led. Poor pre-order numbers and the fear of being so far behind Sony are the only reasons for the changes.

Its all about how much MS can make off you. Recharger kits should be free with the console. BIG mistake.
There are 2 types of gamers:-
The first who take any crap given to them and ACCEPT it without question. They end up with the TV-based XB1 of a few months ago along with DRM, etc, etc.
The second type who ask questions and demand next gen. They get PS4 and even get one of the largest companies on the planet to back track and end up with an improved XB1 gaming device.

If it was not for customers choosing to pre-order the PS4 all the above would still be part of the XB1.
It will be very tempting to them to put one out for sub $400/£300. They do not want Sony to get too far ahead too soon. They see how strong the PS3 stayed and know PS4 will keep on running.
If they do, however, it will be the end for Kinnect 2. No one is then going to pay another $100-150 for a camera at a later date.
They need to stick to a plan. Either go for gaming/TV with Kinnect or bow down to gaming without Kinnect. Can they actually make a decisio...
If Kinnect is really that expensive we may see a new XB1 without it for as little as $350/£275.
They are not worried about covering their losses right now - MS can afford the hit. They are going for install base. If PS4 got too far ahead it would be "Game Over".

We do all remember just how arrogant they were a few months ago telling us what was good for us. Now the PS4 is leading in all markets in pre-orders MS are doing everything they can to be just like Sony - never thought I would see the day!

Once they ship XB1 without Kinnect to chase sales from PS4 it will signal the end for Kinnect 2. How much will they have lost in R&D and manufacturing for this thing?

A developer of the system intimated the cost of the Kinnect 2 is as much as the console itself due to the very expensive sensor used inside. If that is true then a Kinnect 2 on its own would be $200 - $250.
Who is going to buy a Kinnect 2 for $200-$250? That is why the only way to ship Kinnect is bundled with the console.
