I wish Sony were more transparent about those particular games being cross-gen, particularly Horizon Forbidden West. However, yeah, I don't get all the people saying this is exactly what MS is doing since Sony has announced games that will in fact be PS5 exclusive, and there will be more to come, while MS has basically said that there will be no XSX/XSS exclusives for at least a good while after launch. Sony is doing normal cross-gen stuff and MS is taking it to the extreme. And yeah, ...

Agreed. I've seen posts from people who actually believe that this acquisition is somehow going to mark the end of PlayStation. Hyperbolic much? Worst case, PS gamers will also need a PC to access Bethesda games, but many of us have one of those (it's how I'm typing out this post, actually). It's a huge acquisition, sure, but it doesn't change the fact that the PS5 will still be home to a ton of excellent games, many of which will be PS exclusive.

I share that same belief.

I have both, and EGS. I go where the deals are and get the best of all worlds. Is there actually a "console wars" like thing with different stores on PC? Because, one big difference is you can have them all for no cost as long as you have the platform (PC) to use them on. With consoles it's a bit different since you have to buy them, so it makes a little more sense to stand by whatever console you get, and even that gets way more out of hand than it needs to be.

Why would they not do that though? MS desperately needs solid exclusives to keep Xbox relevant, and they've somehow managed to acquire a major studio that can give them that in spades. Bethesda may not be my favourite company in the world but their IPs are popular for a reason.

Yeah, you could just waste $300USD on the weakest hardware to run current multiplats...or you could get a discless PS5 for only $100 more and have much better hardware to run current multiplats, plus PS exclusives. If you want to run Xbox exclusives you are probably better off sticking with a XB1X if you have one of those lying around, especially since that would be $300 less you need to spend. In fact, if you don't care about next gen yet, then any PS4 or XB1 will do.
Heck, th...

Apparently it's only pro-consumer when MS does it. The games media is not biased at all. /s

Unlikely, but I suppose it's possible. I'm not ruling it out anyways. I'm just skeptical the actual number of units sold over the system's lifetime will be quite that high. I'll be beyond impressed if I'm proven wrong though.

What happened is the PS5 sold out of pre-orders. Criticize Sony all you want, but you can't say the PS5 isn't already off to an excellent start.

You must be new here. :) That sadly comprises a greater portion of "game news" than is ideal...but creativity and variety would require effort and many of these sites just want clicks, which these kinds of articles can often generate with ease.

The bigger question is whether it will hold back the XSX. MS decided that for a game to be made available on the XSX, it has to work on the XSS. Will some devs decide to just make PS5 exclusives or PS5 console exclusives with a PC version so they don't have to compromise their vision? Of course, it largely depends on the game, what the devs are looking to do with it, and most of all, how successful the XSX/XSS ends up being. But, it is something to keep in mind and it could be really ...

Good thing you had the foresight to keep your PS3 around, and I agree with you in that regard. Not everyone has one though, so for them it's not that easy.

I have both of those, and a Vita, all of which support PS1 Classics from the PS Store. The PS3 is the most convenient option for being able to download the games, but they can be transferred over to a PSP or Vita from there if so desired.

I'm assuming "natively" means discs won't work, right? I just want some kind of support for retro games, even if it requires emulation to make it happen. I'd love PS1 and PS2 Classics to be a thing again (technically PS2 classics were a bit of a thing on PS4), and maybe PS3 Classics can be a thing. If it has to be streamed through PS Now that's still better than nothing.

I hope that Jim Ryan quote is being taken out of context because it doesn&...

Does it matter? We're getting all three...at least while this collection lasts. I'm quite partial to Galaxy, but I never got the chance to play Sunshine, so I'm really looking forward to that the most.

It will have to run on the base PS4 too. I agree that it's probably not worth it to jump right into next gen just yet. I was going to pre-order my PS5 and pay it off over 6 months like I did with my PS4, but neither company decided to go that route this time, and only having two months to pay it off pretty much negates that advantage.

I guess I'll hold off until I have more funds, and I actually feel compelled to jump in. I will definitely get a PS5 before too ...

Maybe you can have Rarity explain to you how a business works, though you'd think you'd understand that yourself with your apple farm and all. J/K, I know you're just a person adopting a character's name. Your namesake and avatar would definitely understand why a business would make a decision like that. I don't agree with the way they went about it, especially with a couple of their games, but I don't think they're bad just because they decided to do cross-gen ...

No, because while it's perfectly normal for a company to release some cross-gen titles at the start of the gen, MS is taking that a step too far. I'm a little miffed that Sony revealed that Horizon isn't PS5 exclusive, but not every single Sony first party title at launch or shortly thereafter will be cross-gen. Meanwhile, there will be zero MS first party titles that are XSX exclusive. Moreover, I have no reason to believe that Sony will stick with cross-gen nearly as long as ...

You know they do that so people can look at the box either on retail shelves or in a picture in an online listing and see what's inside, right?

I for one actually like when menus have pictures of some of the food so I know what it looks like. With a console, that's less important as I know what I'm buying anyways, but maybe some people want to look at it and see the console's aesthetic.

I agree that 2020 has blown monkey chunks, but it sounds like you haven't had a lot of good happen in your life this year besides these new systems coming out. If that's true, I hope they're enough to help you climb out of whatever pit you're in.
