I would love a new Twisted Metal too, but I for one applaud Sony's tendency to take risks on new IPs. Sure, they may not be able to sell on name and nostalgia, but they give us something we didn't have before, and maybe this game is fun in its own right. Even established franchises had to start somewhere. Planting new trees is never a bad thing IMHO.
It depends how much you're into Bethesda's games, bruh. Sure, Sony may not have a flagship WRPG glitchfest, but they have plenty of other kinds of games. Heck, some could argue that From Software's stuff is kind of like a hardcore WRPG (even if it's made in Japan). MS boosted Xbox's appeal, sure, but you're selling PlayStation short if you think the PS5 won't provide us with other great titles.
Did they rescue a sinking ship though? It means nothing until the games come out. Sure, they now have some good adhesive and replacement boards to help plug some of the holes Sony's repeatedly blown into the ship, but they still have to do something with the materials (studios) they acquired.
True. The ones Sony has bought are normally studios that have worked closely with and primarily produced exclusives anyways, so there's far less ill will when Sony buys one of them, but it is true that starting new studios is an option. It's not one that MS would ever take as they're far too lazy and would rather throw cash around than actually contribute to the industry in a meaningful way, but that's definitely something Sony could do.
Not to be that guy to jump on an amusing typo, but of course Sony and PlayStation aren't in direct competition with each other. :P
Their games are far less glitchy too.
Nope, they just need to keep up the good work. Even with the new studios, MS still has an uphill battle ahead of them if they want to compete with Sony's first party output.
This.^ It’s not the studios but what they can do with them that’s important. It’s all talk until the games come out, and that may not be for a while yet.
MS aren’t satisfied with the present, and I don’t blame them. Being a distant third likely isn’t their favourite thing in the world so of course they’re not going to be content with the status quo.
Hold your horses bruh. Xbox is in a slightly better position now, and it definitely needed something to be more competitive, but it still has its work cut out for it.
It has less to do with where the product originates from and everything to do with not understanding what most Japanese people want in such a product. Don't forget, Disney is huge in Japan too, and a great deal many Japanese people love KFC. MS can get the completionists who buy every new piece of tech (who would also be pre-ordering a PS5), as well as those who have a particular fondness for American products, but it just doesn't have much to offer a typical Japanese gamer over wha...
I doubt MS allocated all that many units for Japan. They know the demand over there won't be nearly as high as it is around here.
Lulz. Well, it can't hurt. At the very least it won't make people in Japan want it less. Maybe tens of people will want one this time. Tens!
Um...no they're not. Sony and Nintendo will do just fine regardless. It's a significant purchase, sure, but it's not as if MS somehow removed some pillar that held everything else up. Bethesda's great when they're at their best, but there's much more out there than just Doom, The Elder Scrolls and other such IPs.
Agreed. But, the industry will prop up anything MS does and latches onto things far less significant than this, so it's no surprise so many journalists are getting in on this for clicks. It will die down soon.
Keep on building mountains out of a molehill games journalists. MS will probably get 2-3 more exclusives this gen than they did last gen, which is nothing to snuff at, but isn't the checkmate it's being built up as. Getting access to better game engines is definitely something they need judging by the recent Halo trailer blunder, but they still have their work cut out for them if they want to compete with the relatively consistent output of Sony first party studios.
Indeed.
Agreed. I was going to say something similar.
Yes, and it will have a party with Stadia and Luna that the PS5 isn't invited to! The PS5 will be stuck attending parties that serve hors d'oeuvres rather than fast food!
MS will "level the competition" when the games finally come out, they're Xbox exclusive, and they prove to be in the same league as PS exclusives.
