As SierraGuy established, I'm sure the expectations equivalent of a negative integer exists, though I'm also pretty sure that would be into the realm of expecting MS's reveals to be harmful to some capacity, as if hearing what they have to reveal will upset us. I'm not actually banking on that being the case, but I'm well aware your post is rhetorical. Just keep your expectations at 0 and you shouldn't be disappointed.

I wasn't expecting much from MS anyways. Unless he's saying I should dial my expectations back even more, in which case that's saying a lot...

Wait, this is now going to be a PS5 console exclusive? Wasn't it originally planned to release on almost everything? Oh well, I guess it's a good thing I'm getting a PS5 then.

While I agree that the notion that all games need open worlds has gotten way out of hand in recent years, I disagree that open worlds in and of themselves are inherently bad. I mean, ok, I do find the side of extended and repetitive overworld travel quite tedious, but that's all the more reason why it's imperative that games make overworld traversal as engaging as possible, and where possible, fast travel/warp points are welcome (though the latter really depends on how well it fits t...

The lack of exclusives and innovation sure sets the XS apart from the PS5, though probably not in the way they’re going for.

Not for me, but I didn't have high expectations to begin with. It sounded like a system for people are fans of the XB1 and want more of the same, but more powerful and compatible with current gen games. That's exactly what it's shaping up to be, and I can't say I'm surprised in the least. It's not my thing, but I guess it works for other people.

Iwata passed away. The current leadership only cares about making a quick buck while cutting as many corners as possible, and exploiting the consumer as much as possible.

The Switch itself isn’t a bad system, but imagine an alternate reality where it also had the same great VC of the Wii U plus that of the 3DS, first party games that contained all the content of previous entries in their respective franchises from Day 1 and where DLC and updates added new things on top of ...

Yep, and that’s why I’m waiting for mine. I really want a PS5, but it’s not as if I can’t wait for the new release madness to come to an end. It will come to an end eventually. In the meantime I’ll grab some popcorn and enjoy finding out about the great lengths people will go to for one. If nothing else, I have to admire dedication like we’ve seen here.

I’m going to have to disagree with that assessment. Would you like me to produce a list of games from last gen that are excellent in their own right and sold less/are less talked about than Sunset Overdrive? I’m speaking rhetorically because that would take far too long. Sure, I’ll agree that it’s underrated. Most underrated game of the generation though? Nah.

@phoenixwing Yes and no. It is true that the series you mentioned have gained a cult following over the years, and many games, even of the Japanese variety have the opportunity to make it big (relatively speaking) if they can make an impression, and I think that's great.

The games I mentioned in my above post are even more niche though, especially The House in Fata Morgana. I highly doubt they would ever be in a position to become known to most people. Even AI: The...

I can completely understand the frustration of really enjoying a game and knowing that it's underappreciated, but it seems like many individuals in that camp are total hipsters who don't play mainstream games and assume they're trash, or think they're special because they've played a lot of games that a good portion of people haven't. Wishing a great game was appreciated more is reasonable. Having a superiority complex because one's taste in games is different fr...

Dude, if I had my way last year's GotY nominees would have included The House in Fata Morgana: Dreams of the Revenants Edition, and AI: The Somnium Files, but I really don't expect niche Japanese games to make it into these mainstream awards in the West. I'm not surprised that 2020 is similar in that regard (even though they are two very different years in other ways).

I don't get too hung up on this stuff, because at the end of the day it's all just a ...

I’m actually Canadian, but there’s an old Family Guy episode where an organization tasked with censorship in the US decides to go on an all-out censoring spree, and by the end of the episode, even goes so far as to try and censor real life.

And after making a huge show of buying so many studios. I get that it will take time for the Zenimax studios to produce their titles, but there was a big show of MS making studio purchases before that, and there's zero reason why they shouldn't have at least had an ok launch lineup, even if it wasn't as good as Sony's.

I'm really resisting the urge to make some kind of jab at the fact that the head of the gaming division behind the product that's ...

Ah, well there’s nothing wrong with just enjoying something because you’re entertained by it. I myself haven’t been able to lose myself in games quite as easily these days, though I think that has more to do with where I’m at right now in life than anything to do with games themselves.

If you’re not into leaving this plane of existence for a while, or simply can’t, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy games in your own way. You probably don’t experience the adverse effect ...

@Michiel1989 Actually, there have been studies that suggest an alcoholic beverage a day is good for one's overall well-being. Getting drunk is another matter though. That's drinking in excess, and is generally not something responsible people do. But, point taken, especially since it's very much possible to overindulge in games too. I think the problem is not so much what people do (unless that thing is something illegal and/or harmful), but in doing it excessively. So, I sti...

Well, a good piece of media can be inspiring to someone, regardless of the medium.

Also, what's wrong with escapism? Simply allowing someone a break from everyday life and allowing them to recharge can be quite beneficial to someone's mental health. Sometimes people just need to take the time to do what makes them happy.

I've found that games can be a great tool to take out frustration on virtual adversaries and opponents. They can be c...

Well, yeah. I think as a society, we've gotten too obsessed with being "productive" 24/7. The reality is, escapism, and just taking time for oneself is a great thing, and even helps reduce stress so that when people do spend time doing something "productive", they're refreshed and rejuvenated and may even be in a state where they perform better had they just worked themselves non-stop. I for one don't see a problem with being idle and enjoying a hobby from t...
