pretty much what i've been saying from the beginning... and all of the products in the list managed to all have some mainstream success regardless of their price.
umm... we still don't know how much psvr is even going to cost yet. so far the only info we have is some analyst speculation that says Sony will move 1.9 million units and it will cost between $4-600. It could very well end up being the same price as Oculus.
Personally I am going to assume that it probably will be cheaper than Oculus but not by a huge amount. I won't be surprised if PlaystationVR comes in at $499. The even more important thing to realize here is th...
totally. its such a weird thing. "that cool thing I want costs more than i want it to so it sucks and it will fail because everyone is in the same boat i am in".
I personally would love to get a nice exotic italian sports car but its more expensive than i can spend so i don't have one. still dig them though - don't storm around saying ferrari is going to fail because its priced too high for me.
amen.
quality costs money and so does new technology. think how good the ps4 and xbox one would be if people were willing to pay $600+ for them. That said - chances are good that all of the people buying the Oculus, Vive or whatever have most likely already spent THOUSANDS on gaming rigs - $600 is not a foreign concept for them. I don't even have a gaming pc but if I did I would expect to pay for a good HMD - and I would expect it to be good.

Having used on already, I don't think it's priced horribly. I initially thought it would be $1000 or more.
true. but everyone knows that prices only go down after launch.
if anything is going to hurt vr its the quality of the experience or content after the fact imo.
what does that have to do with gaming.....
you declined my post for talking about sales of gaming gear on a gaming site and then commented on sales.
*eye roll*
umm.. considering they sold out in 14 min and crashed the server in the process, i'd lean towards no.
exactly. sometimes its worth paying a little more for a little more. I'm actually hoping its a bit more expensive as odd as that is to say - but its because i want the hardware to be really good.
lol
$400-500 is my guess. anything less is bonus and would be well received for me personally but my expectations are gonna remain realistic based on the average price that these things are starting to work out at. i think that psvr might be one of the more inexpensive ones but considering the rift is $600us, even $500 is cheaper considering.
fwiw there are more than 100,000 dev kits alone out there.
edt: make that 175,000
i freaking called it. people on here think that no one will buy HMDs at higher price points, and I say people will. Theres the proof.
Regarding PSVR - The hype of the PS4 is so on fire that they could charge $600 for that HMD and I bet it too would sell like crazy - not that i think it will be $600 but its gonna be least $400-$500. For every person that says they won't pay that much, theres at least one person who will.
It's not. There's spatial tracking, a heavy duty screen, gyros, Kinect like elements etc. these things use constellation tracking so they know your position in the space (that's why they have little dots across the front and sides of them and why psvr has lights around the front) There's a separate tracking unit for the oculus and the Vive uses its own laser positioning units of which you can expand with. Psvr requires the PlayStation camera as well.
Psvr is ...
It's going to be a similar price. Estimated to be around $750 with the controllers. Around 500 for the base hmd. All proper HMDs are going to be similarly priced due to the fact that they all cost a similar price to build. At a hardware level they are all pretty similar excluding the mobile vr solutions which rely on the phone to do almost all of the work.
Ok. Now who believes me that PlayStation vr will not cost $299? VR HMDs are not going to be cheap. At least not initially. The Vive is also expected to be in this price range. Around $750 with the controllers etc.
i dunno... jamming around space and exploring worlds that were procedurally generated and even occasionally coming across worlds other people discovered sounds pretty cool regardless. seems even realistic.
i am really looking forward to this one - even if there isn't a story. dare i say it might even be therapeutic to some degree.
a $300 price tag and the hardware would suck, they wouldn't make enough money to sustain the business model and the quality and perceptions would ultimately fail the product.
