I'd love to try FC4 but man, I'm already loaded up as it is. Wrapping up Sunset Overdrive on x1and COD AW on ps4, but now have GTA V to deal with (never played it last gen).
Can one just jump into Far Cry without playing the previous entries? Would I be missing relevant story points?

yeah both consoles kinda took a step backwards this gen. BETTER GRAPHICS! less functionality.... at least they are moving along though.

i think ps4 has a great 2015 lineup for a lot of people but im personally not that thrilled about it. Bloodbourne looks great but I didn't really love the Dark Souls games and it feels like an extension of that. very niche demographic. The Order looks fantastic graphically but from what I'm hearing its mostly cutscenes with some interactive bits thrown in. no mans sky could go either way with me. Got download codes for x1 and ps4. i plan on doing some comparing and contrasting. looking forward to checking it all out on both systems later. played the x1 version briefly this morning. even in that short amount of time you can feel the world elevated with the extra power over last gen consoles. gonna be good. driving in first person is a little tricky but i think im going to dig it.

I would welcome more ps4 updates. They aren't nearly as bad on the ps4 as they were on the ps3 especially considering it can do it while not in use.

Im not really sure how to take this whole thing. I'm not really sure how Driveclub could be seen as the latest, greatest or even ambitious when compared to other racers out there. it has great graphics sure, but so does FH2 and PCars. The last two also have all the stuff that DC has plus more cars, more events, more options, more tuning, more customizing, more content, and in the case of f5 and fh2 (since PCars hasn't launched yet) more working servers.

explain to us what crushed blacks are technically in your own words. maybe even get into the histogram readings for such a situation. I have to know what they are because my job requires me to. Also explain to me why the comparisons simply look like shifted gamma to me. Then also tell me why color always comes into question on x1 when resolution and framerates are comparable to ps4.... as if it were the only thing left to blow off.
There are a lot of factors involved with capture - even if its direct feed. you have each systems default color profile specs which are probably different, then you have whether each or both systems are capturing pre or post process, whether the systems have been tweaked, the compression of capture and the compression of putting it on the web since the color gets dithered down to 8bit for jpg, 256 c for gif. only a png can maintain 24 bit color but it still gets compressed and color profile...
im not sure you know what black crush means or actually is. Clearly the two images just show a difference in gamma that can be easily adjusted. it looks like the ps4 gamma is sitting a point or two higher than the x1. its probably around 2.2 and the x1 is around 1.8. This could very well be because of each systems default color profile settings. Simple tweak.
if you just wish hard enough, that could actually be true.... and i dunno what seems so revolutionary about the ps4. when i turn mine on i think... ps3 with more horsepower - not a bad thing, not revolutionary though. its definitely slick i'll give it that.
