Wii U is looking (probable specs-wise) to be the PS2 of the upcoming console generation. The other consoles will be more powerful. But in the end, there won't be that much more that they'll be able to do that the Wii U can't.
If these specs are true, what is telling to me is that there is PLENTY of room for Devs to expand a bit beyond what is currently possible on console. Any games that go too far beyond what the Wii U is seemingly capable of will cost an insane ...
#1 reason: 'Not enough money to buy more than one console.'
Fine and good and very understandable. Finding reasons to belittle another console or look down on it, or claim superiority so you can feel good about the choice you had to make? Not so much, and getting rather old at this point...
He goes on about 43 million copies of Wii fit sold, but who still uses theirs? Who actually used theirs more times than they can count on both hands? I bought the damned thing unfortunately, and I played it 3, maybe 4 times. I thought we'd get maybe a cool Silver Surfer game or something for it...
But yeah, point being that Nintendo seems to be proud of the fact that they sell millions of copies of things that people end up wishing that they'd never bought. Not a good...
I think that the outsourcing has more to do with a sense of urgency than anything else. With Sony's Smash Bros clone releasing soon, and Sakurai just getting started, then conceivably, under the normal 3-4 year development time, Nintendo will lose a chunk of the Smash Bros type of fighting game Market, which they had cornered.
Namco already has a running prototype of the game Sakurai said, and he was pleased with it. This means to me that a lot of the ground work has alr...
@blumatt regarding Huck Finn
I hear you, but try being the only black kid in the class when reading a book like that aloud. It's one thing to explain to people how things were. It's another entirely to have to temporarily have to live it psychologically as you try to immerse yourself into a story, and kids of other races chuckle and whisper, and some stare at you uncomfortably because they don't know how to handle it.
A good teacher can get acros...
I wouldn't mind a $400 console at all, but it had better be powerful and worth it. People are hoping it doesn't cost more than $300 because we can all see that it isn't much of a jump at all as far as specs go, meaning that even though the Wii U may be more powerful than current gen consoles, we can get the same games with a similar look on a $199, and $250 console.
If MS can afford to charge less than $200 for a 360, then Nintendo really can't justify someth...
The problem isn't that gamers are insatiable, but that Nintendo is irritated that what they insist their focus be isn't enough for avid console gamers. Gamers aren't going to conform, they'll just move on if their needs aren't met. We all have different levels of patience, but everyone has their breaking point. Hard to believe Nintendo doesn't realize this. I think that maybe they just don't care. Mario every year. Zelda and Smash Bros twice per decade. That's ...
That's pretty much what I said. We're getting Mario all the time now with nothing new to make it any different from what we've been doing. Meanwhile, other franchises are only released once or twice every 10 years. Cutting back a little on the Mario games so that they stay a little more fresh, while bolstering the teams of other franchises so that they can put the games out more often would help.
The bottom line here imo is that we're getting new Mario platforming games every year, or almost every year, while we get Zelda, Smash Bros., Donkey Kong, Pikmin, etc. twice per decade at most. I love Mario, and gladly hand over my money usually to conquer the hades out of those offerings. But this E3 was the first time where I saw Mario games being revealed and not only wasn't happy, but I was disappointed and unexcited.
Nintendo has a lot of money in the bank. More ...
It's sad that so many people were fooled or confused by this, that Nintendo actually had to respond officially...
I'm talking about E3, not the industry as a whole. People who actually care about E3 and pay attention to E3 moreso than they would just reading about something Nintendo said at any other time of the year are the gamers who enjoy and desire deeper experiences.
Did you actually read what I said? Or did you just feel like posting some snide b.s.?
Even if they were going bankrupt, which they are not, a company as large as Sony wouldn't go under. They'd just restructure. That being said, the fact that the PS3 is only just making profit for the past couple of years means that the PS4 is probably at least 2 years off, regardless of what Nintendo and MS do. They can't justify the continued policy of losing money when it comes to the gaming division 2 out of every 3 years.
Even so, that 2 years isn't a negat...
'The publisher has repeatedly snubbed huge-scale events like Gamescom and TGS, refusing to take those opportunities to make announcements. It has already withdrawn from both of those events. E3 is quite possibly next.'
If it's going to continue to be like this, they might as well. E3 is the show that we nerds, buyers of many games, and enjoyers of deeper gaming experiences watch. The general press will go anywhere any time to listen astutely to what Nintendo has t...
Kotaku gave information that is contrary to what others have been saying, but with no source info. So I guess the people out in the open are lying, and Kotaku's 'secret' insiders are saving us all from giving a damn about Nintendo's next console by sharing the secret truth.
Hmm... Sounds a bit off.
'Where's Pikmin? Where's Pikmin!'
Yeah, we've been saying that forever, and we were told that we'd get it on Wii. Then they wait to release it on Wii U, so at base we've been waiting 5 years or so. So when you show it, we know it's been held back forever on purpose, we were shown a tease of Zelda last year, and teased about Smash Bros, what do you expect? I like Pikmin, but it's not a die hard franchise for me. The wait hasn't killed ...
BTW, what do you NEED a second analog stick for that the stylus doesn't handle well outside of FPS games? People who do happen to want to play FPS' on a handheld with dual analog sticks can play on Vita, which they probably were going to do already in the first place. To me, most of the bitching here sounds like Vita preferenced gamers looking for a reason to try and justify their choice. Not Nintendo 'Failing'
Anyone with even medium sized hands who has played a 3DS knows that action intensive gameplay with circle pad and stylus is difficult due simply to the small size of the 3DS, which is already only slightly fatter than the DS lite, but much heavier. Sure, some people wanted or expected a 3DS lite, but that move makes little sense from a consumer standpoint.
Also, most DS/3DS gamers outside of Japan (where the original 3DS size is fine for most) actually play their handheld ind...
Really looking forward to this one. If the Wii U is priced right, I'm getting it day one. If it's more than $300, it'll have to wait. But I definitely would like to buy it at launch.
Cool list, but if Namco has a few characters of theirs in this game, 'Tales of' must be represented. I like the idea of a Digimon in there, but I doubt that Nintendo would want to help Pokemon fans like Digimon more. Besides, if it's not Angemon, I wouldn't want to see them in there anyway.
Funny how you talk about delusion, yet somehow believe that development costs are acceptable to most companies even THIS generation. I feel bad for people like you. You're in for some heartbreak.
