I find it humorous to think that people actually believe that Sony allowing themselves to be harmed hugely by OtherOS hackers would benefit Sony OtherOS users in some way.
Instead, it would close the Sony games division, and OtherOS would go away in a different manner.
It was the hackers who screwed OtherOS users, and no one else. They literally forced Sony's hand with the threat of economic ruin if they didn't remove it, via opening the gates to eas...
NO reason to drop the price. Nintendo makes money on both software AND hardware.
If $199 nets them $60 profit, and $149 nets them $10 profit, but sells 2x as much, the $199 price point is still far far better.
Disagrees, please state why? Just out of love for all things Nintendo? Just bad at math? Don't believe the recent spec rumors?
I think the "statement" basically divides each console's raw power by the number of pixels it has to render each frame.
Thus, they're claiming that, on a pixel-by-pixel basis, the 3DS is pretty powerful, since it only has to fill 400x240 pixels (96K), rather than 1280x720 (922K).
922K/96K = 9.6, so the 3DS could be about 10% the power of a PS3 or 360, and still be able to fill its entire screen at approximately the same quality level PER pix...
Proof positive that you can compare anything to anything else.
The 3DS will be cool, but come on -- these "developers" are just blowing hype smoke about their own games.
^^ and removing the bumper on the laser of the 360 DVD drive.
You think it sounds petty, but it boils down to millions of dollars. Some people bump their 360s, and scratch DVD in all sorts of ways, and MS knows that supports game re-buys.
3 full-scale Halo titles in the past 2 years.
1 Ratchet & Clank, unless you include other platforms & other devs on handhelds, then its "2".
Great article. I completely agree with the interviewees, particularly on the only actual beneficial effect this having on the Taliban, in giving them free press that they don't deserve -- via the controversy which is validating them, not the game itself.
That's right, I'm not trolling, I'm disappointed.
Not allowed, according to you?
Confirmed, It's a lot of fun.
Hear hear. DS RPGs are a joke compared to PSP this year... DQ IX is basically it. A big it, which I thoroughly enjoyed, but pale in comparison to all the stuff that's been hitting the PSP lately.
I'm not trolling bud, I'm on topic (unlike you). This is not the Nintendo fanboy everything-is-A-okay club where no one is allowed to be disappointed.
I'm disappointed. I woulda got one on day 1, if it was a tad more powerful, even if it cost more money.
As is, I can see it selling well, at a price point of around $209.99. What I wanted probably would have cost $249.99 at least. ...and I was okay with that.
Who seriously wante...
Most of the games shown have been on par with their PS2 counterparts, albeit in 3D.
The PS2 had 32 MB of RAM, a 295 MHz processor with a 180 and 150 MHz coprocessor, and a 147 MHz GPU.
I think the 3DS is performing exactly as the specs here would suggest.
PSP with 3D screen.
They even added a *single* analog stick.
And... augh. A 133 MHz Pica will barely exceed the PSP's fillrate, and won't even come close, with regards to triangles. Yet the 3DS has a screen with near 2x the pixels...
Now the reasoning behind N64 ports is clear. I'll stick with my PSP and DSi.
R&C == 6.5 games in 9 years, inclusive of the Quest for Booty PSN title (that's the "0.5").
Halo == 6 games in 8 years, with a couple cancelled titles.
...or are you guys counting handheld titles? I think that adds 2 more to R&C (by non-Insomniac devs), and a couple more canned projects to Halo.
...and, btw, Halo: Reach is the first Halo to almost reach 720p, to my knowledge. Every Halo title previously has been 600p o...
Gray-Fox is correct. Technically there have only been 5 "full" R&C games in the past 9 years. Deadlocked and Quest for Booty weren't standard R&C titles. If you *do* count them, that's still only 7 R&C games in 9 years. Surely you are not including the 2 handheld titles in your count.
Halo has had 6 games (Halo 1,2,3, ODST, Wars, Reach) in 8 years, and a couple more were cancelled during that time. That's pretty much the same.

The Bobby K effect!
*Looks at Kinect launch weekend*
Give it up for the 360 fans. They are just as stubborn as the PS3 fans were at the start of the generation. Kudos for loyalty.
These guys willingly embrace Kinect, after preaching how lame the Wii was for eons. At least the Move has some serious games coming out for it within the next 6 months.
This is not inclusive of America and Japan, although according to the UK-only charts posted earlier today, the VGChartz Move numbers seem low.
As expected. VGC data seems to be pretty spotty with regards to Sony numbers. I believe their retail data is skewed heavily toward America, which also tends to skew their Wii, 360, and PS3 numbers from reality, and much closer to American-only ratios.
This article reflects my thoughts exactly. Subscription fee to play online, when other services offer the same for free... no. I might pay for it if it was like $12 per year. $60? No way. If XBL Gold started offering a few good free XBLA games while you paid, discounts, themes, etc... then sure $60 is cool.
There's just not much sense in XBL Gold any longer, IMO. All my pals are on PSN now as well.
