Halo: Reach doesn't sound like it deserves GotY. What would that say about this years's crop of games, if it was?
GT5, ME2 & GoW3 are probably the top contenders for GotY 2010. I don't think Reach really makes the cut, despite its being well-executed. Same thing with CoD: Black Ops -- which I imagine will be a title of comparable quality, yet relatively uninspired overall.

On the flipside of your argument, palaeomerus, publishers have no reason whatsoever to care about used sales. Their new customers are largely unaffected by this, unless those people honestly counted on the measly amount recovered via trade-ins. Even so, if they factor out the trade-ins from their budget, and only buy, say, 75% of the games they used to, but all of them are new, the publishers will have accomplished their goal -- because the used game market share is larger than the trade-in...
GameStop just doesn't offer that much for trade-in. It won't hurt the publishers to lose the "extra revenue" that the trade-in money *sometimes* provides, plain and simple. They'll easily gain it back by killing the used market, which is HUGE.
eBay, if there's a grandfather clause of sorts... otherwise, if you don't hold onto them, selling them at all will be considered piracy, perhaps.
Nah, it'll just be the used games retail that crashes. The demand will still be there, and the new retailers will take up the slack.
Used retail wasn't an income source for games publishers, so they don't care. All that "but, but... I might put that trade-in money toward a new game" talk is BS. If you trade in games, you buy used, typically.
This is the reason that MS can enforce the "one copy per computer" restriction on their Operating System -- you own a license for the software only -- possessing the physical media does not permit you to install the software on another computer than the one its licensed to.
If you think this is ever going to change... think again.

It's probably just a Greatest Hits repackage guys. I've heard the current MAG beta referred to as "MAG v2.0", but its basically just an incremental update, like all the others. In addition, if it is Greatest Hits, it'll be $30, and that could be big for the community.
If you're making a multiplat, why go to the expense of making extra resources for just one platform, unless its a late down-conversion (see: FF 13)?
Also, extra discs, bump the manufacturing costs.
Its not that Blu-Ray is "only useful for PS3 exclusives", its that Blu-Ray is only USED for PS3 exclusives, because there's another similar console which would cost more to make multi-disc, larger-resource games for, which would cost the publisher...
I think the 360 negatively is mostly caused by years of anti-PS3 lies and BS from 360 fanboys.

Valve is basically completely honest, and self-centric. They complained about the PS3 architecture because its different, and that's a headache for them, no matter what the benefits.
Now they complain about XBL, because XBL's structure doesn't cater itself to their business needs.

MS will not use a 2-handed controller with Kinect. The only purpose of the skeleton system would then be for the legs, since the arms would get "tangled" at the controller.
If they want in on some of what the Move has going for it, plus use Kinect's skeletal recognition system, they're going to need a 1-handed controller... which would add even more to the Kinect price.
That's not gonna fly, at this point.
I've never, ever, had an issue with a FW update, and I have a launch 60GB. Which I take good care of, just coincidentally -- it has plenty of room to breathe.

Oooh yeah RDR. Good call. That's another one that probably beats Reach, as far as GotY goes. And LBP2 as well.
And I'll say it again, I'm not knocking Reach here, but GotY tends to go to titles that are a little more inspired than Reach is.
