Nintendo doesn't like standard disc formats. Its cheaper for them to make their own, since they don't need to pay DVD royalties, I believe.
On top of that, piracy is harder.
I would agree with btk's sentiments, except for one bit...
If the Wii HD is a PS3.5, wouldn't it cost a good bit more than one? I don't think Nintendo is looking to tackle the $450+ casual crowd, because most of the casual crowd likes < $300 I think.
So, *if* the prices are as high as he is assuming, is that a good thing, or bad?
Support for 3DTVs would rock. Couldn't be hard to upgrade all the N64 classics they are already upgrading to 3D for the Wii...
I just finished Ocarina, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess again on my Wii in prep for Skyward Sword.
Not going to buy it for 3DS.
But... Professor Layton! Man, I must have every Professor Layton! I would be overjoyed if it came to both 3DS and DS, but... dang you Nintendo!
Uh yeah... they announced some stuff without dates, without screenshots, etc. They provided all the hot air necessary to get the hype balloon off the ground, is all. Then, a couple weeks after, they pushed back the only other 360 exclusive we have a reasonable release window for (Gears 3), to Fall 2011.
When do you suppose those "5 core titles" will actually show up, since they don't even have screens out, let alone dates?
Why would a hardcore...
Peer pressure, like the article said.
I get free games, and other free stuff, as well as good discounts, with PSN+. Please don't mind if I call out XBL Gold as NOT having those benefits, and those benefits being a LOT more important than Cross-game chat, in my (and a lot of peoples') book.
That's exactly Why Silver members playing online will never happen.
It doesn't matter that people might switch to PSN, they may or may not. They WOULD drop XBL Gold, however. Like a rock. MS isn't going to let that happen. They need that money to make the MS EDD division look decent to the stockholders, and keep the XBox brand rolling.
That's exactly what the article said, and frankly that was my only reason to pay, as well. Peer pressure.
Nowadays, however, most of my gaming pals own PS3s. We actually agree to buy the game on one platform or another together... and the PS3 has been heavily favored as of late, because a few of us (myself included) have stopped paying for XB Live Gold.
I max my sensitivity. Plays awesome that way.
Yeah, Spidey is right. You can pay for multiplat play on the 360, just like you can pay for exclusives...
Although... I think what Tikicobra was getting at is that you can play multiplats for free on PSN. Its kinda up to the exclusives, like Reach, to justify XBL Gold, for many.
Delays from a well-known dev studio are almost always good. It just means they're wanting to get review scores in the 90s, more than they want to simply milk their fanbase.
This is a good thing for Gears. Microsoft should take their time with this one, and make a true 360 epic, that shows off the 360 well. Reach was a good game, but... it just wasn't the "wow" some people were looking for. MS needs a "wow" right about now... or next year. You ...
Actually... it wouldn't take much to be better than FF13.
Yes, developers are "lazy". What that really means is that the businessmen who run development houses don't *like* to have to pay engineers out of their budget, if they can avoid it, because they're expensive.
Hence... middleware. Like Unreal. Hence, bad ports. Like many 360->PS3 quick-n-dirty jobs.
The PS3, pound-for-pound, kicks the 360s arse. Dollar-for-dollar, however, many devs think the 360 is superior. If you see a good PS3 p...
Didn't DQ9 launch at $35? As I recall, the typical high-priced DS game is $30 at launch, not $40. The cheap ones are $20-25.
$40 3DS games confirmed.
I will now never buy a 3DS. I'm tired of paying through the nose for old crap, even if the rest of the crowd is playing catchup with things like touchscreens.
This is the same reason Intel ended up opening the door for AMD -- they charged too much for what they made, and AMD eventually became rooted as a serious competitor, by fair pricing. The same fate has befallen so many companies, including Nintendo's main handheld comp...
Who was talking about Stardust? Do you even know what Super Stardust HD is? Do you have any idea how much stuff is flying around the screen and blowing up at once in that game, in 3D and with a flawless framerate?
Any game made by these devs is, indeed, something to be excited about. They are good, good devs, and Super Stardust HD is probably one of the top 3 games on PSN.
The funniest part about your post is that its exactly what the same dev said about making Super Stardust HD on the PS3: it was easier to animate a zillion things with all the SPUs (one of the tasks they stomp all over the 360 CPU at), and so they were glad to make their game exclusive on the PS3.
You get double funny bubs, because you sounded like you were making a joke. It'd be even funnier if you actually believed you were!
I agree with you SCARE-KRO. The Wii is, at best, a GameCube replacement for me. I feel like the GC's life has been extended somewhat by the Wii, but for the most part, my Wii only gets used for Netflix, because its low power and easy for kids to turn on.
The games are kinda meh, except for the (exceptional quality) Nintendo titles that should have been on GC years ago. I still play my PS2 more -- a lot more.
