A whopping 18 years have passed since the very first Kingdom Hearts game was in development? I completely forgot that one of the most brilliant child actors from the 90s played Sora in this series. I'm also the same age as him, curiously enough, but I wish I could boast that I've spent 18 years of my life doing anything near as noteworthy as playing a character as renowned as Sora from Kingdom Hearts.

So it is the poster child for many a modern title that wasn't what it should have been at launch, but is well enough into the future once it has received enough patches. Am I the only one that despises this current narrative and pines for the days when games were what they should have been at launch?

If it doesn't become the next Half Life 3 then sure. Too soon?

If I had to choose one it would be exclusives, then price, and then hardware. However, the right combination of all three is the most likely to win the day. I think overall Sony played it the most smart, launching with an edge in all three categories, and tricking MS into thinking it was primarily hardware that was driving sales. Nintendo is currently focusing on exclusives and ease of play, and that does seem to be working for them so far.

I hope they stick around for a while, but they're not all great. For one thing they rip people off on trade-ins and then sell said games, systems and accessories at inflated prices that aren't much better than that of a new copy. They may have held a veritable monopoly for a time, at least of their corner of the videogame retail market, but they're clearly feeling the competition of online retailers and digital marketplaces nowadays.

The problem is, they were ...

A release on a system with a larger install base sold better than a previous release on a system that had a smaller install base? Interesting.

Eh...they'll be fine. They know what they're doing and even if they didn't there's no way the Switch will close such an impossibly large sales gap in just a year's time.

I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm sure they will dominate for some. I'll stay in Camp PlayStation, however.

Nintendo has a history of continuing to charge full price for even much of its older lineup, until such time as they decide to add said title to their "Selects" line, and even then they remain at a steady $19.99USD/$29.99CAD, and not all of their first party titles get that treatment (which is great if you feel like paying full price for a game that's several years old). So...charging full price for a remaster of two games from last gen is an improvement by comparison, I guess....

I'm not clicking the link, but better how? This sounds too much like another crackpot study, and I didn't know LG was in the business of credible and unbiased scientific research.

Edit: Ok, there's an actual test...so it tests gamers in one particular category that fans of a certain genre that Xbox is most well-known for catering specifically to would perform at least slightly better than the average individual at? Yeah, I'm sure this is definitive enough ...

That changes all the time, but I'm going to assume that currently Fortnite is one of the top contenders for the game that even those who don't like pretend they do. Thus is the nature of trends. Of course, beyond fads there are so many games from past and present that are and will forever be considered masterpieces in the eyes of many, and if there are any that someone doesn't care much for, some individuals will likely opt to pretend otherwise lest they face social persecution....

^This. One of the great things about the Wii, Wii U and 3DS is access to so many retro titles from a variety of systems including but not limited to those by Nintendo. Imagine a more complete VC that includes a variety of console and handheld titles from the past. I am, and it saddens me that it's a pipe dream.

That would actually be a great idea and all the major console manufacturers and even third parties could get in on such a system. It would attract the retro gamer market and even those who don't want to invest in old systems but might want to check out some of their games in a convenient format, and companies could sell a handful of them based on various systems if they really wanted to cash in (although I'd love for Sony to make a PS2 one with compatibility with both PS1 and PS2 tit...

The Playstation Classic isn't a total write-off for me as I did get Tekken 3 (albeit a slower version of it) among other titles, but it definitely could have been much better. More importantly though, I don't think that should mean no one should release classic consoles anymore, and I even think Sony shouldn't write them off entirely either on their end, assuming they've learned from this release. I know for a fact that Sony can make an excellent product. It's just a ma...

Yeah, but only if Sony puts in the effort. They can make great products. I actually don't think they made the Playstation Classic themselves, but outsourced it for a cheap and easy holiday release. That would explain why the Classic doesn't use an emulator made by Sony or why so many games aren't on there, including first party titles that one would think wouldn't require any licensing hurdles, while many games on there are third party and should have required more hoops to ...

@isarai It’s not just about commuting. Have you seen the size of single-occupancy apartments in that country? It’s not at all surprising that many in Japan would also prefer to forego the home theatre setup we take for granted as the norm here in NA, to conserve what little space they have. They could decide to get a TV for the Switch too, but a system that is small, has a screen on it and only actually requires an AC adaptor to plug into the wall (and even then only when the batter needs ...

That a straight-up console is even being compared to a system with handheld capability in a country where that’s a huge deal is quite something. That said it’s not surprising that the Switch is more popular there.
