I liked the game and feel that this is an accurate representation of the original. I just wish Konami had released this back in 1992 or 1993 when Contra was HUGE.
That is what I tried to convey with this review. It would have been a leading title had it been released during the heyday of 16-Bit or imagine an early Sega Saturn version of this game. It would have been nostalgic for quite a few gamers, I believe.
Yeah, that is something I wanted to promote in the news article. It is a visually appealing game, I just don't see getting past the tired game play.
It is a fun game. Much more fun than I thought it would be considering I am not a fan of 2D endless runners.
I only discovered this title with Deception III, even though I read Gamefan who were touting the series as a worthy purchase for years.
I am playing in on PC/Facebook because I couldn't get used to the touch controls on my 7 inch tablet either. Have you tried those options out yet?
@specialguest - Thanks for being honest.
It is understandable that you may be past this particular level but there are a lot of players that struggle with it. Not trying to be a smarty pants but would this have been better with scantily dressed cosplaying women?
This smells like the fiasco that arose from that one E3 when EGM was viewing the "Ultra 64" at the Nintendo booth and everyone was marveling at the power, the graphics and the sound. Not one media outlet took the time to "lift the curtain" as they say and see what was going on. EGM did. They lifted the skirting on the table and found an SGI workstation running the demos, not the Ultra 64 that was on display which Nintendo hoped to dupe everyone into believing was doing ...
Awesome bits of information there, IMO. Thanks for sharing!
I was quite surprised when I found out about this title having been ported to GBA, even if unofficially. Imagine if Capcom had taken the time to port it themselves.
This same team also did a level "tech demo" for Metal Gear Solid on GBA. It is not much but it is a demonstration of the engine used for this version of RE2.
If anyone is interested, I can get a news post for the MGS level written up (it is just a Youtube video).
Restrict how? All gaming, outside of PC (for the most part) is restricted quite a bit. Nintendo has done it through both software and hardware tricks. Sony goes out of their way to keep gamers from doing a lot of the stuff they want (such as taking screenshots of PSP games, why was that NOT included in the OFW?).
Apple is no better about it either. You have to jail break to do a lot of things that Apple could have easily implemented in the official OS.

Actually, the article was written with the history feature as the primary focus and the MS stuff added as a future looking discussion as to the most likely next portable combatant to enter the market.
I have more stuff coming, and giving MS positives is not an option or a concern of mine. Rather, I am writing about what interests me and what I see for possible things to happen.
It is not a "fake troll article", it is as the title states, a brief history of hand helds and why MS needs to be involved.
Windows Phone 8 is not on dedicated gaming hardware. Using that as an example, you could say they have already tried portables with the Zune. The problem with that argument is that the Zune wasn't dedicated to gaming either, just like Windows Phone 8 and 8/RT on tablets.
It is not the most popular genre on mobile devices. That is why we don't usually cover it there.
From my experience with GoB over the last year and a half or so, endless runners are the most popular genre on iOS and Android.
It is better than getting DLC like a gun or armor for multiplayer like we have seen in the past from companies like EA and Activision.
I played it, years after release, and couldn't get into it (I was never a controller playing first person shooter fan). A lot of other people love it though.
It depends on what you are looking for as a gamer. If you are a more casual gamer then you would be stupid to not be in on the Shield or other mobile gaming. If you are more of the persuasion of "I gotta have GTA as soon as it hits" then you are definitely better off with a newer console (preferably a Sony one).
Vita has been getting the shaft by many developers and gamers alike. Sony is just not marketing it right, not able to get gamer support for it like it ne...
