I read somewhere that the U.S. publisher felt the audience would not understand what a "Philosopher's Stone" was so they changed it to "Sorcerer's Stone" to have broader appeal.
We added the International name due to a lot of our readers coming from countries other than North America, where it was known as Sorcerer's Stone. My apologies for any inconvenience this caused, it was just to help the article be more accessible to more of our readers.
I think they went with the feedback they got at the time. Most felt the strategy elements were tacked on. I think it would have been cool had they expanded them rather than removed them though.
I played this on GBA and PC when it first came out, then years later I got the PS2 version. Definitely a fun game and a good one considering the bad luck publishers have with licensed games.
I have been playing for awhile and yet to hit a wall. I have found some levels that required multiple plays to complete. Most are star challenges but nothing stopping me from "completing" the game yet.
I would love to see this game on PC, playing it at an extremely high resolution and seeing what they do for the PC market (not exactly a popular area for IAP).
I wish companies would offer both. Offer a free version with IAP and then also offer a paid version without IAP (maybe stagger the releases or something).
The game is great. The challenge is set on high (something so many others complain about). This is just more of the first game with some tweaks that some hate (moving certain plants behind a pay wall does suck but it is free).
With the amount of piracy in the world, IAP is one way publishers have found to combat it to some extent. Sucks for the consumer because a few bad apples ruined it for everyone but it happens.
Other than the Resident Evil game, the list is at least original and not the same old games listed by yet another site. Silent Hill is like Ninja Five-O on GBA lists, it is a good game but there are so many others that are not so well known that should be listed instead (I know Ninja Five-O is not well known outside of the lists).
All the Ouya has proven is how not to launch a system. Seriously, they messed up by not getting systems in the hands of backers BEFORE getting them at many retail locations/online stores.
I was going to put some links to "similar" titles on Android/iOS but there were so many I just didn't bother. lol
I agree, it is quite a ripped off formula.
@Nerdmaster, while I agree with you about Zelda, it is one of those debates that get out of hand when brought up. I just default to calling it one to appease the people that think it is.
It definitely does. I believe Wind Waker HD was recently released but they need more as the pickings are extremely slim.
That is something that the TWiT hosts brought up, that Valve would be much better off pulling a Microsoft here. Getting others to build the hardware and putting SteamOS on top of it, kind of along the lines of how MS is closely involved with what hardware went into each Windows Phone 8 device.
That is fine but considering they have plans to release the OS for free, it doesn't leave much incentive for PC makers like Dell to jump in.
It has been reported many times on the "This Week in Tech" and "Windows Weekly" by Leo Laporte and other hosts that the SteamOS will be available for home builders too so it negates the "standardization" that Steam Box is supposed to represent.
Sure, Valve can release and sell their own hardware variations but fans will still be able to install the OS on whatever they want without buying anything from Valve.
I agree. At least they didn't rip graphics and created original ones for this title though. I wish the MUGEN community would do the same.
It is also on Android, iOS, PC, Mac and Linux (links in the article for each).
Thanks to everyone reporting "broken link" the site is currently going through migration on the hosting end. We are aware of the problem so please, no more reports that duplicate the one above you.
Soldierone, what games were you playing? Also, what types of games are you interested in? We have many reviews and articles on great Android games and our reviews (from the last few months) have it stated clearly if the game has In App Purchases so gamers can avoid those games at all costs (also our reviews are based on NOT buying any IAP at all).
Yeah, we were a couple of days late but enough fans asked for the article anyhow so I went ahead and wrote/posted it.
It was quite a bit of fun. We are also going to be interviewing some of the better Tomb Raider fan film stars in the near future.
