Oh yeah, the AI is very intelligent. Probably the best AI I have ever seen in a shooter (better than Halo's and Crysis's, for example)
Multi-player portion is the best online shooter experience I have ever had. The campaign is also outstanding. And the graphics are jaw-dropping.
Oh, and I love that I haven't seen a single instance of screen-tearing. Which is amazing given the complexity of the scenes that are being rendered in the game.
It's always about evolution. What FPS on consoles in the past few years has truly revolutionized the genre? The answer: none. They have only introduced incremental improvements, which is fine since it is very unlikely that the fundamentals of the genre can be changed very much without turning it into something entirely different (i.e. it would no longer be a shooter).

True. Gears 2 had quite a few problems.
True, but it's a slighter pause than the one you get in Gears 2 when it does a checkpoint save.
Another thing I love about Killzone 2 is the fact that there isn't any screen tearing. I haven't seen it even ONCE, whereas in both Gears games you will occasionally get screen tearing.
I have never seen another multi-player game look this good, period.
The really amazing thing is, that it has the gameplay to match the graphics. It's truly an awesome game all around.

As long as it sells well I don't care exactly how many units are sold or whether it beats the sales of any other game. That kind of thinking is for fanboys. Obviously I want Guerrilla and Sony to be rewarded for such a job well done, but I don't care too much about how it sells compared to any other big games, as long as it sells well.

Wow, just got the game today and I absolute agree with all the positive reviews it has been getting.
Based on what I have played so far it is easily the best shooter I have ever played on consoles. Seriously, the multi-player is amazing and the campaign is absolutely outstanding as well.
I was a huge fan of COD4, but I must say that the atmosphere, gameplay, and production values of Killzone 2 surpass COD4. It is my new favorite shooter.
I have loved my PSP since the day I got it, because it can do so much and it is so well made.
Now, I can't believe the number of good games coming out for the PSP in the near future that I plan on buying. Tenchu Shadow Assassins, Motor Storm, Resistance Retribution, Assassin's Creed, LittleBigPlanet...it's amazing. The fanboys on both sides are the same. If you can't see that, you're lost.
PS3 fanboys might be more prevalent on this site at this time, but on many other sites it is often the opposite. And believe me, Xbox fanboys can be just as big of A-holes as the PS3 fanboys can be.

I don't think we've seen nearly enough to say how good it is going to be, and even less still to call it "best FPS of 09".
Graphics look pretty nice and the large open playing field sounds intriguing, so I'll keep my eye on this one.

However, I own both consoles and have played lots of shooters on both and I think Killzone 2 is easily among the best.
