So - you use procedural synthesis to create textures - but - do you use it to compress images, photos? Or just to generate textures - drawings?
Simply - you can not take character models and make them magically smaller with this new magic wand called procedural synthesis. Also it takes processing power. Also - it is not really something new - maybe for 12 year old kids - but no it is not new.

So - you could double the size of GeOW - but you would have to swap disks. And you could make it the same size as Lair... But then you needed to have awhole load of DVD's, and had to search for what is it now - disk 12 .. erm side 2 of disk 6, now where did I put it again...
Hell - you could put it on double sided CD's - and have a hundred CD's yo shuffle through every time you go to different locations... but hey - you would most prob like to have it compress...
I would like to up size that to 500GB internal storage thank you. Luckily some consoles gives you real choice - not the kind of "choice" that binds you to obsolete HD-DVD technology and require fantastic prices for a not much bigger HD. Get the new entry level (60GB, 80GB, 120GB or whatever it will be) and up-size it to what is available off-the shelve. Great!
So it will be 1080p, 60fps, most probably better than the XB360 version etc etc. Great graphics etc etc. Just a pity I don't like DMC much. Rented the two previous ones to give it a spin and see if it is worthwhile getting, ended up playing something else after two hours.

They would have launched with HD-DVD if it was ready. If they did, the BluRay vs HD-DVD battle would have gone the other way (no ways Sony would be able to battle a 10m HD-DVD market. But as it played out, HD-DVD was not ready, and MS wanted to launch early - as they did not want to launch head to head with the PS3. The gamble gave them a large lead, but without the key functionality of a high capacity drive.

I liked the first Killzone. Finished it three times. They are making a big effort to make this one great - so good news for PS3 owners. Why then are XB360 owners all over every Killzone news article trying to downplay it - or are they just waiting for their replacement machine for the red ringed ones to come back - so that they can pack it into the coffin and send it back again....
Retailers, count to ten, declare that HD-DVD is out for the count. Get over it. Release a BluRay for the XB360. Get it done with. Within a year people will not even remember that there was a format war - except for the few that bought a HD-DVD player. But % wise it will be very few.
GT is the best racing driver around - bar none. I played the other ones - and still - GT is just a cut above. Having said that - I really really think they should have damage this time around. What would be the real incentive to not just play GT4 on the PS2 if they don't have damage this time.
OK - so the GT:HD is just a tech demo free download - and damage would most probably be included with GT5 - well, I really hope so. If not - it will not be worthwhile getting.
Minor better here, better there. But that is what the devs of cross platform titles are supposed to do. Make it the same for all platforms.
Exclusives will be better. Motorstorm is great, R:FOM, Gears of War, all great. Will have to see Lair in action to know if it is as good as the hype. Same with Halo3, Killzone. Forza and GT5. So a backlog of people bought a PS3. Still the main titles is not released. We will have to see how it plays when MGS4, Lair, Heavenly Sword, The Getaway, Ratchet and Clank etc gets launched. That will tell us who rally wants the PS3. For now - the fanatics and the big wallets bought - without much to play on offer. When the titles that people are waiting for is available - we will see if it really blooms - or goes down.
BluRay won. We are just seeing a flash in the pan for HD-DVD. If MS went and supported it FULLY (like with a build-in HD-DVD for XB360) then we could have debated this seriously.
Now, it is just a matter of time before a BluRay drive becomes available for XB360. Not that it will matter. BluRay will win without the extra support.

If MS really wants to follow suit they should just put a standard drive in the XB360.
Sony will though the life cycle of the PS3 keep on increasing the hard disk size as the commodity standard drives increase in capacity and becomes cheaper. Pity the XB360 fans can't have the same. They will have to pay through their noses for a hard disk they cannot swap out for a standard bigger one.
But limitless? Come on. It is a great processor, but limitless is a bit of a stretch too far.

So - if the economies of scale means that a 80GB drive or 100GB or 120GB start costing the same to them than the 60GB - why not just pass it on to the consumer. Makes sense. With production going where demand is, 20GB will cost more than a 80GB drive. So, why keep with a 20GB or 60GB if you could just include a bigger drive at the same cost.

Was yesterday at the Centurion Mall in South Africa. Took photos of the two consoles on display. At the one couple of people were playing Ridge Racer 7. The other one had a "out of service" note over the screen. The console displayed red rings of death. Guess which console was from Sony and which one from MS.
But on a sober note, if the patch bricked the console then it is not the manufacturer's (Sony or MS) fault. Take it up with the company who issued the patch.

Simply because all the abstraction and specific methods used for the different architectures will be handled by the engine.
It will be like porting a SQL script from SQL server on Intel to Oracle on Sun with SPARC. Two vastly different architectures running different platforms, yet the result will be similar.
At the beginning of the cycle - yeah - the Cell is difficult, it will take quite a bit longer to get it working better, and these techniques will be taken ...
That is why I will stay with the Sony brand. The PS3 will last around 10 years like the PS2. I have around 40 to 50 titles for the PS2, and will be getting some new ones for the PS2 this year as well. The moment a new XB comes out, MS will kill the older one in a heartbeat. That is just the way they do business.
If someone takes that risk and it is fine with them, well - good for them. I just like to have a bit more mileage out of the console.

Would have liked it even more if it was a 600GB HD. The title is a bit stupid. Develop? They just swapped the 60GB for 200GB. Great. With more downloads you will need more storage. Next year it will be with a 500GB, and the year after that a TB disk. Keep it coming.
